This book is by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder and its set in Season 1.

It's not one of my favorite books. I don't think the characters seem very true to form.

I did like Xander and Willows Mulder and Scully Halloween costumes plus Buffy's pirate costume. They seemed very cool.

Has anyone else read this?

Like Jules said, I don't think the characters are captured very well in this book. They seem kinda random, 2D and I can't imagine them saying many of the lines on the show. The concept of the bad guy was a really good one though and if you let your mind get into it and your imagination run away with you it has the potential to be damned scary. But the writing does, unfortunately, let it down.

All in all not the best Buffy novel :(

Yup. I read this book while I was in London last summer, everyday on the tube. That's already a bad sign, normally I can read Buffy books much faster.
At least this one offered an explanation why Halloween is said to be so slow.

I have this but I found it kinda weird that the books are being written as if Buffy started at Sunnydale High from the first day of school. Didn't she transfer like in the middle of the school year, which would be at around January. So Halloween would have been long gone by then. Because the show was a mid season replacement. When do mid seasons take place?

I'm sorry for the rant but that bugged me.

Is that why season1 only had 12 episodes?

Yeah, Buffy, after being kicked out of Hemery had a real time finding another school to go to. It's why they moved to Sunnydale because it was the only place that had a decent school that would take her. However with the school hunting, I believe it took so long to find Sunnydale it was half way through the year when she finally got a place and so Buffy enrolled in March. Which is why she tells Giles 'I was worried I was gonna be behind in all my classes!' because everyone else was over six months ahead.

I actually really liked this book. It was one of the first I ever read - I loved the story, and I think while the characters weren't perfect, they were funny and enjoyable.

I loved the part where Buffy wrote the sigil on the window in lipstick. It made me laugh a little.
