View Full Version : Buffyverse stuff in non-Buffyverse places

I thought it would be a good idea to make a topic to find out where you have found Buffyverse stuff outside of the Buffyverse and what stuff reminds you of Buffy. I'll start off with some examples
One thing i hate about the PS2/GC/Wii/PC game Resident Evil 4, is the fact that from behind, the main character looks like Riley D=
In the song, Delirious Love by Neil Diamond, the way Neil pronounces the word "Delirious" always sounds to me like he's saying "Illyria's"
Also, what non-Buffyverse places have you put Buffyverse characters?
I don't know if any of you have heard of Gaia Online, but it's a site with customisable avatars, anyway, the avy of one of my mule accounts, "Champion of the Powers", is a Buffyverse cosplay

On the PS2/Xbox 360 game WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007, i have used the Create a Wrestler mode to create Buffy, Faith, Spike and Angel (I would post pics, but i don't have any)
So yeah, your turn people

Oh, well as for character creating, ive downloaded sims for The Sims 2 of characters (because im bad at making them lol). I havent attempted to make Miis of them on my Wii yet.
I never put Leon and Riley together.... I mean, Leon has been around since RE2 (im a big fan of the series) and they are pretty different characters overall. Leon is a lot more of a smaller build too.

It's mainly the haircut from behind that makes me think of Riley >_<

I'm not sure if this is what you're wanting, but in "Man Of The House," one of the cheerleaders makes the statement, "We were about to go all Buffy on their asses!"

In the movie "Johnson Family Vacation" Solange Knowle's character is watching the Buffy Finale 'Chosen' at the motel. Also in the movie "Are We There Yet" Ice Cube mentions to some kids that they don't carry Buffy stuff in his store.

In one Charmed episode ('Two Sisters and a Ghost'? dunno, that's the literal translation of the German title) Phoebe and Prue are walking over a cemetery at night and Phoebe says 'Where's Buffy when you need her?'.
That line always makes me smile

In Kelly Armstrong's book "Stolen" (sequel to "Bitten"), the main character, a female werewolf, mentions the series "Buffy," on several occasions, says that she is a fan of the "original series," which I take to mean that she isn't a fan of "Angel," and asks a vampire why he couldn't live on animal blood instead of the human variety.

I agree with the res evil 4 character reminding us of Riley. I thought that when I saw the cover before I bought it. Played it for 10 min and got frustrated. I kept dieing.
Also, the movie 'She's The Man," the school she goes to is called Illyria.

Did anyone notice that around half of the cast of Heroes have been on Buffy? To name a few, Maya, Audrey, Monica, and Bob (Heroes nerds like me will know who I'm talking about!) were all in it at least once.
Also, Henry from Ugly Betty was in an episode. And if you were wondering, yeah, I always freak out when I re-watch episodes and see people I recognize show up... xD

A lot of the Buffyverse actors do voice work on the side. My husband likes cartoons, so I'll sometimes recognize folks' voices. About a month ago, I heard Adam Baldwin and James Marsters in a Superman cartoon. Baldwin played Superman and Marsters played Lex Luthor. Today, my hubby was watching a Justive League cartoon and I heard David Boreanaz. He played Hal Jordan, who was eventually turned into the Green Lantern. I'm actually freakishly good at recognizing voices. At the end, I always check the credits -- and I'm almost always right.

Part of my job is to place student teachers in schools for their teaching practice placements, so basically I have to ring most of the schools in the country trying to get students placed. In Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter novels, there are quite a few Buffy references. She's said before that she was a huge fan of the show, so I'm assuming that she gives it a nod here and there. Also, when I went to JemCon last year, Christy Marx, who was the head writer for Jem (and she also wrote for He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe and numerous video games) mentioned Spike in her Q&A session. It just put a big smile on my face that someone, who I see as an icon, also loves Buffy and the characters from the show!
Oh, and I believe it was 3 or 4 years ago, we did Halloween in downtown Nashville. We went to this club where they had Goth night on Sundays and Halloween was on Sunday. Anyway, as I got off the elevator to go to the second floor, these two people who were dressed as Buffy and Spike were making out in the hallway. Just thought that was kinda cool, not that I'm a perv or anything, cuz I'm so not.

I recently bought the two seasons of "Dark Angel," and I have noticed a LOT of parallels between that show and "Buffy," especially in the 2nd. season. I can't picture someone of John Cameron's skill and reputation allowing anything with his name on it to hack off of another show, any more than I can Joss, but it's almost as if the two of them would sit together over drinks somewhere and work out plots together. (For those of you who never have seen the show, the similarities between Max and Buffy, Alec and Spike, and Angel and Joshua are uncanny. Max's best friend and roommate is even gay, and there are life threatening consequences if she and her boyfriend "get busy," as Joshua puts it. There's even something in Max's DNA that makes her the "one girl in all the world.")

Several times on the show Max is described as having DNA unlike any other, both by the government agents trying to capture/kill her, and by the CDC doctor who examined her, and she is unique in other ways, but to go into them here would constitute spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the show yet.

I love the Buffy references in Spaced. When Tim compares the character of Twist to Cordelia.
Tim: She's shallow Brian, ya know? Like Cordelia out of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and after that Angel, the spin-off series, which is set in L.A.
Brian: I don't know what you're talking about.

Rockstar? She's looking rather seductive and shaking her hair by a pool in a couple of shots haha. And I'm Just A Kid she's pretty obvious cause she's in it throughout.
I came across something else to do with buffy the other day. I was on one of my favourite authors, Dorothy Koomsons website and was looking at her "All About Me" and her most rewatched DVD was Buffy! I love seeing little things like that, it makes me feel a wee bit better about my obsession hehe.

I can't believe I didn't remember this earlier, it's about the best in-joke ever:
In the PC game "Sacred", when you enter a certain merchant's shop, you get attacked by bunnies (they're doing ridiculously little damage and are ridiculously easy to kill, but there's like two dozen of them all over you at once). When you kill all of them, a woman comes out of hiding, introduces herself as "Anya the Shopkeeper" and thanks you for "stopping the little critters from overrunning my place. I hate them!"

If anyone watches The Office, during the 3rd season, when Jim was working at the other branch, they were all playing Counterstrike. In science the other day we had a general knowledge quiz and one of the questions was: In the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy is played by Sarah who? I put down Sarah Michelle Gellar which we all know is the correct answer and the person who marked it said it was wrong. They said that it would be Sarah Sarah Michelle Gellar if my answer was right. I got really angry then and said that I used part of the question in my answer which I did. But they kept saying it was wrong and I was really close to punching the guy in the face. I didn't though cause I knew I would get in trouble if I did.

Anthony Stewart Head had a brief appearance in "Sweeney Todd" that I didn't know about, so that shocked me to no end.
In the movie "Can't Hardly Wait" I just kept seeing actors from the Buffyverse, same with "Bring it On"-- another big shocker!

Lol, this reminded me of something completely unrelated, but I found it funny anyway. One time, my dad was in a pub and they had scheduled a psychic to come in and do readings, and they had a big sign advertising it on the wall. The psychic phoned up to say that they had to cancel, and since my dad knew the owner of the pub he was asked to put a notice up on the sign to let people know. What did he write? In Will & Grace they mention Buffy a few times. Grace is reading a magazine and the pages are stuck together so she thinks SMG was in a prisoner of war camp, Will yells at her and says "You thought Buffy was in a prisoner of war camp!", another is when Jack is hitting on some guy and when he says that he works in tv, jack replies "Oh my god I love tv, Buffy is my life! Im so into Willow being a lesbian right now! did you have anything to do with that?". Funny thing happened today, really had to post it here :D
So at my place of education we have a thing called "co-op", which is basically students getting hired by local businesses to work-- only rather than getting paid in cash, you can earn credits towards your diploma. It's pretty snazzy, but requires two weeks of safety training and job interview training and stuff, which I'm almost done now.
ANYWAY, today we were looking at interview skills and my instructor pulled out a cheesey instructional video from the 80s or 90s about interview skills. And the VERY FIRST character that pops up is a 17 year old girl named Marcy, played by none other than Clare Kramer!!! As in Glory!!! I couldn't believe it, first thing in the morning in a co-op class in "the middle of nowhere" town, Canada and here she is! All I could think through the entire video was "GLORY IS BEN-- BEN IS GLORY-- GLORY IS LEARNING ABOUT JOB INTERVIEW SKILLS!!!!" *laughs* I was so floored, all morning I was thinking "I have to tell the BBers, they'll never believe it!".
Anyway, that's my story. I can't find any caps of the video as of yet, but if I find any I'll be sure to put one up. I thought it was pretty neat, anyway :)
PS: And as a sidenote, I was looking for a screencap and found a new promo shot of Clare K. I almost didn't recognize her at first!

There are lots of tombstones in that game, most of them with stupid puns or scifi injokes on them. And one of them bears the epitaph "B.A.S. - she saved the world a lot".

I thought was pretty much Buffy in a non-Buffy place... Obv it had SMG in it which made it kind of easy to link with Buffy, but either way all i could think about was that episode.

Edit:
Oh, and theres a band called HIM, which stand for His Infernal Majesty... But it pretty much always reminds me of the Buffy episode with the same name.

In my Media Studies class today we were looking through a book, can't remember the name though, and it was telling us about different font types for different genres and on the horror section it had an advert for Buffy DVD's and videos as one of the examples.
Oh, and I was watching Cool Money earlier and James Marsters was playing the main character. Don't ask me what happens in it though, I was too busy watching James. ;)
