Episode: I Only Have Eyes for You
Buffy, season two

I have to say that this has never been an episode that I enjoy watching. I don't know why. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I completely despise the Buffy/Angel relationship.
It is interesting though how it makes it seem like Buffy is the one who wants forgiveness (perhaps for sleeping with Angel and consequently feeling it's her fault that everything is messed up). That what I always got, that the ghost of James inhabited her because he saw a reflection of himself in her.
I could never stand this one either, I mean I do like Angelus and the Buffy/Angel relationship.
But as a stand alone this episode was slow, meandering, needless and pretty much was painful to sit and watch through.
Dunno, just don't like this one.

I think I'm one of the few people who actually loved this episode haha. I just adored it. But I'm just such a romantic and maybe that has something to do with because this episode was so very romance oriented. I loved the story about James and Grace; the whole thing was just so tragically romantic. And I am not afraid to admit it always gets me a little bit teary in the scene where she forgives him.
And I also loved the fact that it was an opportunity for Buffy, and oddly enough also Angelus, to work through their issues. Buffy realized how much guilt she felt over Angel's change and Angelus realized that even without his soul those feelings for Buffy were still there, he was still tainted by love. Note the next time we see him properly (I'm not counting Go Fish as that was basically a cameo) he's stopped torturing Buffy and is off to end the world. It's as though he's trying to completely rid himself of every connection to Buffy....by sending her to hell.
But yes, I do generally love this episode. And the song 'I only have eyes for you' is also loveable, it is just the finishing touch. Sounds so, and yes here's that word again, romantic. Haha

Great, now that song is stuck in my head. :P
I did enjoy this episode. I think it helped establish how alone Buffy is and how she has to work through these things by herself--all the time. She's never been one to reach out for help from anyone. Somehow, helping these ghosts find forgiveness and (dare I say) redemption made her feel better about her role in Angel turning to Angelus. And I loved watching how the different couples played the scene slightly differently despite the exact same lines and basically same choreography.

I actually quite liked this episode - the acting between Gellar and Boreanaz is some of of those actors best IMO, and it's certainly interesting seeing the ghost possessing Angelus, and subverting his own feelings for Buffy. (So much so Angelus just leaves without saying another word once those ghosts have departed). One of the better stand-alones from season two, and tied it into the overall storyline very well.

I've only seen Season 2 once, and don't remember exactly everything that happened, but this episode really sticks out in my head. I really liked the scene at the end when Angelus is showering in the garden, and he says that he feels disgusting b/c he was filled with love. (sorry if that's not right, my memory is not the greastest). I just thought that said a lot about Angelus the character, as we had seen that Dru & Spike felt love for each other, but Angelus was completely disgusted by it.

This is probably my most watched ep. I know it's not the best ep of the series but there is juts something about it that I love. The perormances are brilliant. Love it!

This one was a real favourite of mine for ages when the series was on television. I love the song and it was used so effectively in this episode with the dreamlike quality of the melody. I agree that DB was really great in this ep - wasn't this the one that got Joss thinking of the spin-off? Since i've gotten the collection on DVD i don't love it as much as i used to - i still watch it and i think its really clever how the buffy and the ghost connect but the notion that love must last forever makes me a bit uncomfortable. There are some great lines, my fave being "Gee, over identify much?" from Cordelia and Giles' excellent "To forgive is an act of compassion, Buffy. It's not done because people deserve it, it's done because they need it." Just beautiful. Oh and Spike rising from the wheel chair - awesome.
There is a huge mistake in this ep in that James listens to the song "I Only Have Eyes For You" in the music room as he prepares to kill himself in 1955. But the recording he's listening to is the Flamingos' version, which wasn't released until 1959 (found that little tidbit on buffy guide (http://www.buffyguide.com/episodes/eyesforyou.shtml))

It's a good episode. Not one of season 2's best, but it is still good. I helped to close part of the Buffy/Angel storyline (at least until; season 3) and helps both of them move on.
I really wished I had remembered about snakes. That part freaked me out. I really hate snakes!

I liked this episode quite a bit because for one thing, we got to see David Boreanaz step it up a bit with his acting skills. Plus, it showed to Buffy how forgiveness is important. I think it was a good stand alone episode.

I've heard that in was David's acting in this episode that was the last factor in Joss going ahead with "Angel".

OK, i'm re-re-re(...)watching this episode right know.. and I noticed something I've never noticed before. In the previous episode, Passions, Angelus destroys Jenny's computer, right?? But in this episode, there's already a computer in that room. Dah, it could be another computer! Right, that's what i always thought but then Willow said: "Well, I had good lesson plans. Ms. Calendar had them on her computer." Her computer was destroyed! Maybe it was another computer but we always saw her doing her reserches in THAT computer (the computer she was using right before Angelus burnt it!)...
What do you guys think??

I despise the Bangel thing with all of my Spuffy heart. But it was an interesting episode.. A bit boring at some points, but I enjoyed how pissed Angelus gets in the end when he snaps out of it.
(plus Angelus acting as the girl = Epic win)

Well all the data, including the lesson plans, was probably saved on a server not on the harddrive of the destroyed computer.
That is after all the usual way to store your data. So it gets backed up properly and you can access it from any computer. Even though she mostly worked in the classroom.
Willow saying that is was on her computer is just a way to simplified it.
I have no problem with that.

okay, i came in here to check out new discussions, and lo and behold, i have something to say about an old one. so sue me :p.
pretty much, most of what i came here to say is already in posts, particularly joyce's (:)), but i do have one unique thing to mention. im a fan of the kiss at the end. i mean, i know its not really "them" sharing the moment, which is obvious since angelus has to wash his mouth out after it, but i think it was a nice kiss. i particularly like when the "ghosts" get sucked out of them. it just makes for this really pretty light effect, which is a big part of why i like it so much. hehe, yup, thats all :). *hides and hurries to view newer discussions* :silly:
