In 'Calvary," Angelus sings for Lorne and manages to make him think that Angel is back. If Lorne can tell the difference between Angel and Angelus, how was he fooled?
it was the spell Cordy said would restore Angel's soul. if you watch a couple of eps down the line, it shows, in a flashback, that the spell actaully did something to Lorne, made him see Angel instead of Angelus.

And besides...Lorne was never the same after getting his head drilled. He got A LOT of things wrong later down the track.

That ALWAYS confused me, too. But I think what Lyri said is right, after thinking about it.

Yeah Lyri's right. In the flashback it shows that the deal with Angel was just a lightshow to distract from what happened to Lorne. You see his eyes flash red or something....

The Jasmine files pulled from Lorne have nothing to do with anything- he was fine afterward. His whole game got muddled. He devoted his life to balance before, and even though doing good is a 'good' thing, he was wearing his shoes on the wrong feet. Also, being an alcoholic might explain some things. Furthermore, he didn't get things "wrong", I don't believe. Some singers came prepared.

Well Lorne's real problem started in Season 5 really or the end of Season 4 when they took the W&H deal. It's interesting that Lorne had always been middle of the road as far as morals are concerned, letting baby eating monsters into his club and such but I think he began to draw such lines and became angry with Angel and himself for crossing them. After everything he'd done and everything he'd been through (Fred) it was too much.
Side point, Lorne can't get drunk. Unless it's special fire water.
