Alright in the season 4 episode of Awakening when the group decides to extract Angel's soul. The episode were Angel has the fantasy about how he would like things to go, how he would like to kill the beast, etc. During that episode when Angel and Cordeilia are having sex (disgusting) and when has that feeling as if his soul is being taken away from him and he gets off from being on top of her and he's lying on his back; very softly and almost like a whisper he says "Buffy"!!! Now that has been bugging me ever since I saw the episode for the first time. Is there anyone else that hears him say that or is it just my imagination? If anyone else has heard it and possibly have information on why he says her name please tell me. I've been wanting to know why he says her name, if thats supposed to mean something for the future of their relationship.

I don't feel like consulting the DVDs right now, but I would assume that if he did say her name it was him remembering what could happen, saying her name as a warning to himself.

yup, he said Buffy. Me as a Cangel shipper is repressing that, so I agree with what thegifting wrote. It's a warning, doesn't mean he still loves Buffy.

Yes, he says Buffy's name. This drives me mad. In an interview David Boreanaz apparently said that it was "a testament to his true love for Buffy". Argh!

I loved Bangel while it lasted, but in the end, it wasn't to be. I completely brought the Angel/Cordy relationship. Unlike some relationships in the Buffyverse it progressed quite naturally and made sense to me - they had both matured, taken on so much responsibility and gone through a lot together. They grew closer, needed each other and eventually realised they loved each other.

After spending three and a half series letting the relationship develop slowly, and getting me to believe in it, the writers spoilt it a bit for me with the "Buffy" line. I think they were just trying to keep the die hard Bangels happy. I loved Bangel, but I moved on, and I think Angel did too.

Okay, neutral party here relationship wise. My status is I love Bangel- it reaches the uber romantic in me- but I thought Cangel came about naturally. While Bangel was a heart stopping whirlwind romanace, Cangel was the sort of thing you come across in real life more often. It progressed as the two shared experiences together, matured together so the concept never icked me out as by the time it happened it seemed very natural.

However when he says Buffy, for me, I thought it was primarily him reminding himself what happened last time he gave into his desires. And going all evil? Not a good. However I also do believe that it is showing no matter who he may love- and I do believe he loved Cordy entirely- Buffy will always be in his heart, just as he will always be in hers. No matter how much the two of them move on they will always love each other- they can't help it.

Alright, yes some might see the Angel/Cordy semi-relationship to have come around more easily that it was more realistic the way it came about. But there are times...they might not come around very often; but the Bangel type of relationship does happen. And for whatever reason there are times when those two people aren't in a relationship anymore for however long, they do end up finding their way back to each other; I'm speaking from experience. Yes there are more Cordy/Angel relationships in the world than the Bangel's, that I won't argue. But to say that him saying 'Buffy' was just a warning to himself is not I think what actually happened. That was a dream he is in, completely separate from reality...from the real world. Buffy has always been his life-line, she always will be. Maybe he needed that dream to show him what or more importantly who he really wanted, needed.

I completely agree. Case in point is my own relationship; that was very whirlwindy. Seen him briefly time to time but we had only been dating six months when he did the proposal thing. Of course when he proposed I choked on my dessert for a few minutes before saying yes but the whirlwindiness was there. Though thankfully we do not have the angst of Bangel.

But I totally get what you mean about 'no matter what they find their way back to one another'. That's why I always had a feeling that no matter what others relationships the two fell into whether accidentally or on purpose, they still have that bond with one another. It's of the cannot be severed variety.

And since it was Angel's dream world I think it was a mixture of all his desires. His desire to be the champion without the sacrifices, the desire for his son to be okay for them to be able to work through the problems together, the desire for adventure, the desire for Cordy and also the continuous underlying desire for Buffy

I think that one can always assume that Joss has always had something in mind about in some way bringing Angel and Buffy back together. Case in point the whole play-along analogy bit they did in the series finale of Buffy. We all can hope that they make a movie so that we can really see if our assumptions are true. But we have to wonder if they make a movie what's gonna happen concerning the whole prophecy thing. We saw that Angel pretty much signed away his entire humanity in the final season, so how would that play out. Would Joss make it so because of his huge non self-serving sacrifice that he made that that's what the PTB wanted, so that in the end he does become human.

Well, there are 18 days after the finale of Buffy where there is no Spike to complicate the Buffy/Angel reunion issue. Spike returns the next day and Buffy, according to Angel, is "somewhere in Europe" at that time. A movie about their reunion could take place then. Maybe Joss planned something for that 18 day period. Otherwise, any getting together of Slayer and brooding vampire will most likely have to wait until the entire After The Fall series is settled. Either way, if it happens, it'll almost certainly happen in comic book form, since neither Sarah nor David seem very enthusiastic about reprising their roles anytime soon.

As for Angel "signing away his humanity," the assurance that it would be his vanished the instant that Spike acquired his soul. Angel has at best a 50/50 chance now, and if it ever was, in fact, his, it still is. If he indeed was the vampire named in the prophesy, he couldn't have signed it away. We've seen time and again that, at least in the Buffyverse, prophesies are pretty much inescapable.

LMAO at some Bangel's thinking Cordelia and Angel are "disgusting." Their relationship progressed naturally but whatever floats your boat. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Anyway, Angel said Buffy because he was remembering the last time he lost his soul. It's not like he said, "Ooohhhh yeah Buffy." It was more like, "OMFG?! My soul! Buffy?!"

It's meant to be interpreted by the fans like anything else I guess. I could never get into Angel/Cordy ..liked their characters more with others (Angel/Buffy, Cordy/Groo etc). To me it was fantastic!
You don't just say the name of your ex for no deeper reason then the fact that you're remembering something. He didn't say Buffy when he thought he might loose his soul in season 2, in season 4 she was on his mind I guess.. and then it's paid off when he goes to help her. That's how I saw it anyway.

I actually just saw this ep today for the first time!

In regards to Cangel I wasn't exactly "disgusted" by their relationship. It definitely was more natural than some on BtVS or Angel. although i much prefer bangel. obviously. and no i didn't hear angel say "buffy"! I'll have to watch again!
I didn't know that pretty much the entire episode was sort of a "dream" thing. It seemed so real! I was a little disappointed that it wasn't real because I wan't connor and angel to get along already!!!Connor is getting a litttle annoying. but i was also relieved because if angelus hadn't returned than the rest of the season would be all "happy yay!" if you get my point. all in all an excellent episode!:)
