I was just curious on what people thought. Did you like evil Spike when he could bite freely and play with the other puppies and was with his isane girlfriend. Or did you like whipped Spike who was obsessed with Buffy etc. It is pretty obvious that I am a pretty big Sprusilla fan but just wanted to see what the rest of you thought.

I hate to pick the 'outy' option but I don't think I have a preference. I love both ships as they both just show different sides of Spike, but at the same time show similar sides too.
In Sprusilla we got to see a much more daring and outgoing Spike. She took him to new heights, 'never stopped surprising him', but his relationship with Drusilla also gave us insight into the total sweetie that he could be. In School Hard when he's talking to the Annointed One, he has a very aggressive, I'm-the-big-bad attitude but the moment Drusilla wanders into the room his face changes completely (and literally) as he becomes soft and caring. The same in What's My Line when he shouts at her in the teaser out of frustration but minutes later he feels so guilty. Drusilla whilst keeping him evil and crazy and all the things we love about season 2 Spike, also gave us a look into this really endearing side of him that's just...I think it was what gave an opening to the Spuffy ship. If he can be so caring and loving with Drusilla why not with Buffy?

And that just leads me onto to Spuffy. Whereas with Sprusilla we saw mainly animalistic Spike with a little bit of that endearing side of him (Most particularly in almost every scene in Lover's Walk), with Spuffy the caring side was dominant and that was nice and enjoyable to see. In a way through the Spuffy relationship (despite their building destroying moments that were definitely influence by the Sprusilla years haha) we were shown not just Spike, but William.

I love any part of the Sprusilla relationship (even the parts where she breaks up with him as their dynamic there makes me smile. I love Dru saying 'I have needs Spike') but with Spuffy I weirdly enough preferred Season 5 Spuffy (even if it was one sided) and season 7 Spuffy as those were the times when softer Spike was dominant. In season 6 Buffy reaching her darker sides took the couple to a Sprusillaistic twisted level.

Poor Spike just never got a decent break with the ladies! Drusilla only sired him so that she would have another toy like her dolls and someone to pay attention to her when Angelus was occupied with Darla. In her own way she was as abusive as Buffy ever was if not more so.

As for Buffy, she spent more time beating the crap out of him and simply using him for her own gratification that she ever did appreciating the pain he suffered for her, her family, and her friends.

Ironically, probably the relationship that was the least painful to him, one way or another, was with Harmony (Sparmony?). At least in that one he was pretty much in charge.

Soooo hard to choose.

I can't! I can't choose. I loved Spike and Dru. Love, love, loved them. I'd tell you why, but then I'd have to repeat Joyce Summers. A little piece of me will always want Spike and Dru to get back together. Their chemistry is insane. The love that they have for one another is obvious, even when they're being all twisted and vampire about it. They seem made for one another. But Spike has a soul, now, and that seems pretty incompatible with Dru.

Then, there's Buffy. I'm a pretty big fan of Spike and Buffy. I think they formed a real and lasting connection. I think they are in love. I just don't know how to argue with that and say that he shouldn't be with Buffy. I've defended my Spike/Buffy love in lots of other threads, so feel free to peruse. I don't think they were made for each other; I think they made each other who they both are when Spike dies.

So, yeah. I can't choose. I love them both!

Elaborating a little on what Palabra said; Spike's relationship with Buffy kinda vetoed any hopes we may have had of seeing some more Sprusilla. Sprusilla was great but by season 5 (yes, even pre-chip) Spike had changed too much for the two to ever have the glorious relationship they had. Glorious in a totally evil way of course. Even Dru excepted that when she says in Crush 'Not even I can help you now'. And it was his obsession with Buffy that caused Drusilla to fulfill her needs elsewhere (I think the scene was in Fool for Love where she said that Buffy was hanging all about him like ash...or something equally metaphorical and crazy sounding).
But that's not to say I prefer Spuffy to Sprusilla. I'm too stuck in a rut with that decision! I'm just saying that I believe Spuffy eventually took over Sprusilla in the 'verse, overpowering it I guess because of the way it caused Spike to change.

Oh and DDD- Glad you liked my word. The fact that it's under ya name now made me smile, haha

I love Sprusilla. Spike was so sweet and gentle with Dru. When was the time we saw a vampire couple like that? They were the complete opposite of Angelus and Darla, who were willing to screw each other over just to save their own life.

When was the time we saw a vampire couple like that?

James and Elizabeth in Hearthrob were pretty lovey-dovey, but yeah they were no Spike and Dru. I have to admit that after seeing Destiny i don't see Spike and Dru as so romantic though. I think Dru really wanted Angelus and she kind of settled for Spike. I always feel that this is also pretty obvious in season two.

Spuffy for sure. Maybe because we got to see the whole journey, but I enjoyed it more.
Never really got into Spike/Dru.. they were interesting, that's about it for me. Actually I liked them more in comics.. especially the Goddard one.

Sprusilla, all the way.

I used to hate Spuffy... Now I just ignore it xD

Can I vote for both?

Apparently not. I really wanted to do that- but it wasn't an option so I erm, didn't vote. Haha. But feel free to ramble on the greatness of both couples as myself and Palabra did. :)

We're in the same boat, Joyce. I like both ships, because they were the best for everyone involved at those points in their lives.

I voted Spuffy.
I liked Sprusilla too, it's very interesting ship and I enjoyed it watching season2 but Spuffy was just the best for me.

It's really hard to choose, why can't I vote for both?

As a bangel I have to vote Spike and Dru. But seriously I do prefer him better with Dru. I think Buffy made Spike out to be too much of the victim. She took everything out on him and more often than not he didn't deserve it. Not that Dru didn't have him wrapped around her little finger, but they did seem the better matched couple :)

Spuffy! They're just so cute together. So dysfunctionally cute.

I am a *both-er* too.

I like Sprusilla for the evil, dark, wicked fun, and I like Spuffy, because well... it's Spuffy. But I still really would like to have seen Spike & Faith have a go at it! Woo hoo! Burn up the screen! ;)

Without reading the other posts, I'm just gonna dive in.....

I picked Spuffy.

Don't get me wrong, I really like WATCHING Dru and Spike. On the other hand, I feel like Spike is good at giving his "all" to relationships (perhaps not Harmony) and doesn't get a lot back from anyone.

ALTHOUGH, I think Buffy at least has the ability to give her all to Spike. Dru is just nuts and I don't think she's really able to "give" all that much. In fact, I think she feels oddly out of place when she shows up on Angel because she really seems a lot more "sane" and giving with Darla than she ever was with Spike.

I feel like she was all for Spike when he was bending over backwards to make HER happy, but that was about it.
Buffy seemed (even in her more UNACCEPTING times) more able to accept Spike's activities that weren't all about HER. In fact, she seemed to rather LIKE him having activities other than her.

I'm all for a more EQUAL partnering in relationships.
All in all, I'm WAY more of a SPANGLE fan than anything else. I say, let Buffy go on her own way, I could watch Angel and Spike from now until the end of time.

I'm just gona jump in and say Sprusilla. My reason is simple, when Spike was with Dru he actually acted like he had a pair, like he was evil...like a demon! I hate Spuffy that's no secret but I actually like Spike and I can't help but find him a tad pathetic when he was chasing after Buffy getting his shagbot made. Not exactly the Big Bad is it?

(perhaps not Harmony)
Perhaps? You think? lol

Pathetic to say the least, but moslty it was kind of funny. Spuffy was fun to watch but at the beggining it wasnīt a "good" realationship if you know what I mean. But Iīd like to see where it could have gone if he hadnīt died (so he cameback, itīs not the same). But Sprusilla was quite fun too, so I have a difficult time deciding. I guess itīs more like

Big bad Spike = Sprusilla
Scooby Spike = Spuffy

But neither ship qualifies for my top-list (ok, so Iīve only decided top 3 then it comes to "love-ships" but still). As said above Spangel is way better than both of them!
