I guess this could be a stupid question, but I'm just wondering... in Angel when the sun is blocked out for a number of days, Buffy is also going on, but theres still sun in Sunnydale! I suppose it could just be the part of the sun that hits LA but when you see it, it looks like its covering the entire thing. So my question is Why just LA???

Um . . . cause it's magic?

(Not being a smarty, I really don't know.)

That always puzzled me. I mean it's the same sun everywhere in the world. So if it gets blocked in L.A it would be blocked in every other town, state and country.

So I came up with a get-out theory in my head that even though the characters kept saying 'block out the sun from L.A', technically it was L.A beiing blocked out from the sun. That it was L.A that got covered in the magical cover-all so while the sun shone everywhere else it could not shine down on L.A

I always took it as the "sun Cover" Was not actually the size of the sun, but just big enough to cover L.A., which means it's not actually up in space, but like a "sun Block" floating far enough up in the sky to cover La

I thought that there was a radio or TV announcement on Angel about the "strange unexplained eclipse phenomenon" that was only affecting the "immediate Los Angeles area," but I can't find it , so I'm not positive.

That's totally what I always imagined happened.

So basically Joss has trained us well enough that when it's possible there's a blip in the plot we insinctively go 'Oh no no, it's because of THIS'. Haha. It's nice to be kept creative though ;)

Not quite, WA is correct. I can't remember what episode but there was a brief radio announcement telling us that it was only in LA.

From the transcript of Angel 4.10 "Awakening"; this is in the first scene of the teaser:

Officials from the national weather service remain baffled as to the cause of this strange phenomenon. All that's being reported at this mid-afternoon hour is what meteorologists are calling quote: "a localized abnormality," confirming earlier reports that outlying areas remain unaffected. While the sun over Los Angeles has, for all intents and purposes, been blotted out from the sky.

I considered an eclipse for a moment, cause you can get a total eclipse in one place and no eclipse in another, but that wouldn't explain why it was only L.A. and not the entire surrounding area--including Sunnydale. So I stick to my original answer: it's magic.

I remember all those years ago Joss mentioning that they were going to mention it in Buffy but ofcourse with the show being on two different networks it would be hard to get them to match up good enough so they dropped it. It was something to that affect.

In 'Long Day's Journey' (4x09), the episode where the fang gang are protecting Manny (the totem of the Ra Tet) at Gwen's home, Manny reveals the Beast's plan to blot out the sun, and then explains that the blot will only START with LA, soon spreading.
MANNY
Bingo. And that's before it starts to spread. California, North America...eventually, hello, global blackout. The world is the Devil's oyster.

I have always assumed that the thing blotting out the sun was a big mystical barrier, which was going to grow in size, eventually effectively blotting out the sun, by blotting out the WORLD from the sun, not the other way... Does that make sense? I mean to say that the black cloud thing (that we kept seeing in the Sun blot episodes) was going to wrap around the earth.. And then, you know, ut-oh..
