Ok i have made my dislike of xander sometimes obvious
But in the episode Spiral when xander lights spike's cigarette and they talk before buffy comes back in is it just me or was xander trying to sorta make peace with spike?

I really think he was please tell me someone agrees with me.

a lot of people hate xander becouse he was not nice to spike.

but you have to remember spike tried to kill him a lot of times. and her it friends, he hated that more.

spike lived with xander and still tried to kill him, calls him wheep and bracklayer, and treats him like shit. xander treat him back the same way

most of the time they fight like brothers,

funny part is xander saves spike a few times, and spike saves xander a few times.

but every body think xander is the asshole.

Yeah, Xander was being nice to Spike because Spike was trying to help save their lives. :) There are more moments where Xander was nice to Spike.

or was it more like - "okay so Buffy wants you round and so i'll take pitty on you, you pathetic vampire with sliced up hands who can't even light his own cigarette"

How many time did Spike try to kill Xander anyway?

Xander's reactions seemed pretty normal to me. He didn't trust Spike because he was soulless.. and previously pretty damn evil and scary.
I remember at the time thinking he was harsh to Spike at times, but so was Giles and the others.. they kind of had a right to be to some extent, they were trying to protect Buffy.. not just be a jerk for the sake of it.

As soon as Xander has lived with Spike for a time in season 7, and after he's got his soul, Xander seems much happier to help him. Owh and yeah I thought it was a nice moment, I like this actiony episode.

I don't think so, since Xander gave Spike a sweet smile after he helped him.

On top of my head, when Angel offered Xander as a snack to Spike and when Spike threatened to kill Xander if Willow failed. I'm sure there are more. Besides, Spike tried to kill and hurt Xander's friends, Xander's friends always ranked above Xander is Xander's handbook.

Xander annoys me too but I do think he was being nice to Spike in this episode, Like some one already said they were "brotherlike".
I think Xander sometimes forgot who spike was, the ep "This Years Girl" springs to mind! Spike hates him just as much. Its a weakness on both parts :D

In this particular episode, they were on the same side and literally in a situation that could've turned out fatal for either of them. Brothers-in-arms, if you will.

How can anyone not like Xander? Anyways, Xander is the heart of the group and part of that means he is very protective of his friends. He doesn't want to see them hurt and becomes mistrustful of those who hurt them. Plus, Xander got a genuine dislike for vampires after seeing his friend Jesse killed in the first episode of the series. That is why he never really liked Angel. It wasn't just about Xander's jealousy because he wanted to date Buffy. It was more about Xander still having this anger toward vampires. That extended to Spike as well. Spike was a mass murderer who tried to kill Buffy numerous times. Spike kidnapped Xander, whom he gravely injured, and Willow to produce a love potion for Dru. Spike tried to kill them again in Season 4 and even at the beginning of Season 5 was still planning their demise. Xander had every right to treat Spike the way he did. Their was that level of mistrust there.

Although I'm big fan of Spike(heh) I think it's understandable that Xander treated him the way he did. Like it was said, Spike tried to kill him and his friends many times. Then when he has been already chipped he was making fun of him, stealing his things etc. But despite all that Xander still liked Spike more than Angel. This is true that somehow they became...hmm..companions?
While watching that scene in "Spiral" I thought Xander was really sorry for Spike and tried to comfort him in some way...

I would hav treated Spike like shit too.. He had tried killing Xander and his friends over and over and he'd displayed no remorse what so ever toward Xander. You need to remember that Spike didn't have a soul, he wasn't a good guy who understood that he'd made mistakes. He was truly there helping the scoobies because he had a chip and he couldn't kill anything but demons. Another motive may have been to impress Buffy and get into her pants - big woop. I think that Xander understood that Spike was still Spike and acted upon it more than anybody. Xander saw Spike as the same killer he was before - but just not able to act on it. It's like if a mass murderer was trying to kill you and then they were put in jail, I'm sure you still wouldn't treat them nicely. Once Spike actually gets a soul, I noticed that Xander lays off the insults a hell of a lot.

Spike only did anything good to get in buffy's pants? then why did he stay for 147 days (148 days but tthe 48th didn't really count) when buffy was gone not gaining anything for it?

lol karma for u wiccianslayer, ooohh snapp.. Yer lol, I guess Spike may hav felt bad after she died, as if he owed her something because he broke his promise to protect Dawn, so he hung around to make up for it, and really, I'm sure Spike did love her in S5, but I think Xander just thought he was there to get into her pants honestly, cuz Xander saw him as a monster, whether it was a motive of not is a different story.. So yer lol - sorry..

I dont think Xander ever truelymade peace with Spike. He just learned to put up with him. But, Through the years, Xanders got every right to hate him.(or be jealous, whatever)

Probably at the time that Xander lit Spike's cigarette, he was thinking that they were pretty much at the end of the line, barring a real miracle, and there wasn't much reason to continue holding a grudge against Spike. Then again, maybe he just wanted to steal Spike's Zippo (surely I'm not the only one who noticed that!)

Even Xander (as stubborn as he is about certain characters...Angel and Spike, anyone?) can appreciate someone continuiously helping him and his friends. Spike didn't NEED to come along with them, but he did anyway, and Xander's human. He can be grateful, even if he doesn't particularly like someone.

I think it is a sweet moment, and I agree with Xander being harsh to Spike in many ways, but what I feel for Spike more than anything though is that everyone goes on about him being evil, but he hasn't been for a long time, he showed that especially to Buffy when Dru came back to turn him back and he still said no, Spike never had a soul until s7 but he still turned good, even though he had his chip he still could of helped others to kill Buffy (maybe not physically) but he never did. So yes Xander is right to be horrible to Spike but I think he should have give him a break!

Okay, so I've made it clear many times here that I don't like Xander very much, there are many different reasons that I won't go into here, but I love that Xander and Spike have all that slashy subtext. I wonder when Spike gets his zippo back? (hehehe) Basically what I'm saying is that Xander is far from perfect, I'd never be his friend in real life.... but he has his moments, and this is one of them. A completely beautiful way of saying thank you.

The end of season 5 was the most the two of them ever got along I think. I don't really agree that he forgot what he was, he was constantly reminding people that spike is evil. I just think that deep down he started to identify with Spike a little bit, you know the whole Im in love with Buffy but she doesn't want me thing?.
