[I'm sorry if this is already a thread and I've missed it... just chalk it up to my incompetence in life].

So, I watched Hush earlier with my dad and he asked me a question that did actually stump me.
So, I thought I'd pose it to everyone here, and see if they know/have a theory regarding it.

When The Gentlemen are off on their gruesome jaunt around Sunnydale for hearts, why is it only specific people that they choose?? I never thought about this, but its true, when they're in the UC Sunnydale residences, they pass lots of doors before they finally decide on one.

So why do they do that, and what do you think qualifies as a 'good' heart??

I guess my slight (guesswork) theory, is that they can sense something in the people... maybe some sort of supernatural power, however dormant and untapped it is (hence being after Tara) or maybe (this is the ridiculous part) that they can tell if you have some sort of heart problems in your family or something... or at least sense if there's the potential for having a bad heart, hence not wanting to take it.

I mean, not all demons that harvest organs are that picky, or have senses atuned like that- I'm referring to Season 1, Puppet Show, where the demon harvested a brain before realising that it was cancerous.

So, what's your take on it??

Maybe they chose by coincidence. I think it's clear they picked Tara because she was outside alone, directly in front of them. What were they supposed to do, pass by, say hello and keep on looking?
And otherwise I think they just chose arbitrarily, just knocked on some doors.
I've been asking myself why they didn't take Olivia's heart after they'd seen her but I just realized that they might need somebody to open the door, similar maybe to vampires. Does that make any sense?

i've wondered about that before as well
because one assumes they could have just gone 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 along the dorm room doors on the first night and got their hearts and been done with it?
see now i'm going to keep wondering and it'll pickle my brain

i like the idea though that they were looking for hearts/people attached to them, that had some kind of supernatural element

I just assumed it was the gents preference or simply random.

Like the way when your in a store and you pick up a mars bar, the are several right next to each other but you pick one over the others, no real though goes into, you just pick one.
