Satsu's Age

Is it my imagination, or has Satsu "youth-ened" from Issue 4 to Issues 11 and
12? Or maybe it's just the different artists.

I don't know about "youthened", but her look has certainly changed. And it's the same artist in Issues 4, 11 and 12, which is one of my complaints: the art is pretty inconsistent. I like Jeanty's style okay, but sometimes you can look at two different drawings and wonder if they're even the same person. And there are coloring errors, as well: in one panel, Satsu's hair is definitely black (done with blue highlights,) while in others, it's done with brown highlights, indicating a dark brown color. Which is what led to the big whoop-ti-doo over whether or not Satsu was even in the room when Buffy got her "Sleeping Beauty" kiss - was the Asian-looking Slayer with the brown hair supposed to be Satsu, or not?

Joss said somewhere that he wasn't too concerned if the artists didn't try to exactly duplicate the features of the actors, he was more concerned with the story, but I agree, the artists just plain don't seem to try for ant consistency whatsoever. The same character is barely recognizable from one frame to the next. I don't know if they're in too big a hurry to complete each issue, or just can't remember the characters' "look," but it is definitely distracting.

It's not quite so noticeable with the major characters, the regulars from the show, as it is with the new faces that it seems to be the most noticable.

Right, and I'm okay with that - I'm more concerned that Buffy looks like Buffy and Willow looks like Willow than that they look like Sarah and Alyson. (On the other hand, I was one of the first - and loudest - to complain that Willow doesn't have blue eyes, so maybe that other sentence there can be taken with a grain of salt... :biggrin:)

I agree with you Rowan Hawthorn, in that Buffy needs to look like Buffy, not Sarah Michelle. I personally look at it like Buffy Summers is portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Giselle Loren, Kristy Swanson, Eliza Dushku (in that one ep), AND Georges Jeanty, Cliff Richards, Karl Moline, Jo Chen, etc etc etc.

Actually, it changed colors at least once in Issue 12, too - check the panels set in the control room near the end of the issue. Although, I think I like the new coloring better than the first - it looks more natural.
