Okay, I've been re-watching through Buffy and I got to The Freshman, and I noticed a line that I didn't notice before. When Joyce says 'Have you been fighting?' then Buffy's response was 'Faith started it' and I don't get why Buffy didn't tell her Faith was in a coma; I mean, okay, Buffy but her in a coma, but she could have edited the story a little, saying that it happened at graduation or something, because that's less like lying than not telling her at all is. So, why bother covering it all up? 'Cause her Mum was going to need to know that Faith had been rogue sometime, anyway, because she comes to her in This Years Girl...It's all very mind-boggling, any thoughts?

I think she said "They started it"

I think she said "They started it"

Plus the fact that, though her mother knew very well that she was the Slayer by that time, I'm sure Buffy was very careful not to mention much as to the details of her calling. I did the same thing when I was in the Navy, though fat ol' Chief Petty Officers with sadistic senses of humor aren't nearly as much of a danger as your average vampire.

(The image of Joyce that one night when she went Slaying with Buffy just popped up in my mind. Her taking snacks along was pure Mother Logic. "Whatever the situation, hot chocolate and cookies will certainly make it better! I bet she even briught along some of those little marsh mallows)

Yeah, she said 'they started it'. At the same time as letting her Mom know in a roundabout way that yes Slaying is still up and active at college, she was also playing it off like they were having a conversation about a normal fight she had started in the school yard. Where the kid always replies 'she/he/they started it'. It was a subtle avoidance technique. Hehe.

And WA- Hot chocolate and cookies CAN solve ANY problem. Don't deny it, hehe. Especially if there's little marshmallows- then you are completely sorted.

Edit:

white avenger agrees: It has to be home baked cookies. Oreos just won't get the job done!

I agree. It's ALWAYS home-baked. Oreos just don't cut it; their cookie goodness just isn't the same. I think hubby is getting ever so slightly fed up of the homemade cookies lately though. All I've been doing with my vast amounts of spare time is baking cookies. And muffins. Lots of muffins, cupcakes and cookies. We have become the international house of something. :D Haha

What is wrong with Oreos? I LOVE them.

She said 'They started it' and like others already said I think she meant it like you say in kindergarten or school ('he did it first', lol). That's a way to play things down but honestly I think it would perturbate Joyce even more, knowing that evil things are after her daughter, attacking her out of nowhere.

Until right now I could have sworn Buffy did say "Faith started it..." and I was even going to make a thread about it. So, thanks for the correction, lol.

And I agree with Social Suicide with the kindergarten thing-- that's what Buffy meant.
