I always do my best thinking when I am heading to sleep. When I have no paper to write my thoughts. Then when I wake up I forget half of it. BUT I was thinking about the differences in Buffy the movie and Buffy the show.

The whole thing about slayers is they are generally alone in the world. The fight, they fight is a lonely one. And then it hit me, Buffy Summers A (movie) was very much alone. Besides that Pike! But she allienated all her friends (couldn't help it) and she generally tried to keep to herself. If it wasn't for Pikes persual of her she may have stayed alone.
Then we have Buffy B (our favorite summers, tv show) who moves to Sunnydale and makes friends quickly, and keeps them. Giving her a life of not so aloneness in the frienship aspect.

It wasn't too long before Buffy movie was Buffy tv. In years it was, but in Buffy time it wasn't.
So what do we say about the people of Sunnydale compaired to the people of LA? Because even rich bitca Cordelia came around to the whole vampire/demon thing.
But Buffy's friends back home, well, AHHHHHH. That was their reaction.

Anyways, I was just thinking.

Maybe there's also a slight element of small town mentality/big city mentality in there as well. Small towns tend to accept the oddball better (at least in the fictional world, which is where I live) so maybe that helped Buffy to be accepted, and therefore make friends more easily, despite her interesting activities.

That's not to say that she didn't have ackward adjustment periods when she first moved - and in a non-harsh way, she went down the social ladder (at least in Cordy's eyes) and found more accepting friends than say the Cordettes may have been?

Plus - unlike her LA friends (in the originial movie) they weren't used to bubblegum headed Buffy who suddenly starts being all intense and starts blowing them all off suddenly - the Sunnydale crew had that behaviour from the beginning so it wasn't as odd to them.

Another thing to consider is that Buffy, simply because of the changes she had recently gone through, either consciously or unconsciously, made friends with the very people who would tend to actually value her friendship rather than her social status and, once the action started, they were all sort of forced together by the hellmouth situation. The biggest anomaly in the whole group was of course, Cordelia, who had no business whatsoever with the others. Possibly if the mysterious vampire helping the gang out had been Jonathan instead of Angel, she never would have hung around at all.

And remember, Sunnydale is on a hellmouth. L.A isnt. Not to say they didnt see weird things in L.A but Sunnydale it was like, daily (or nightly, rather). I think even if those people in good ol' Sunny D denied it, they came around to it easier because they still saw things.
