Sorry about the lame title...
I was watching the finale of season 2 and something kind of bugged me. Why would they try to do the spell of restoration in the library? It was during the day the 'emulation-o-gram', i.e., when the vampire came into the school and told Buffy to meet Angel at the graveyard. They had plenty of time to get everything they needed and go to someone's house, possibly Giles', and do the spell. That way no vamps could have gotten in and stopped it. I understand that to make the story progress, it needed to happen in the library, but don't you think it would've made more sense to go somewhere that wasn't opened for vampires to enter?

That has always bugged the crap out of me. They could have done the spell at Giles' apartment since the parents wouldn't be too into the whole spellcasting thing. That would have probably saved Kendra's life, gotten Angel restored sooner, and not have Giles get tortured or whatever.

Exactly. From a time management standpoint, it could've been done. It moved the story along, just seemed a bit strange. Angel could've gotten his soul and stayed around, Willow wouldn't have gotten hurt, Kendra wouldn't have died, Buffy wouldn't have gotten charged with murder and teamed with Spike and told her Mom she's a slayer, and subsequently, wouldn't have left town. Giles would've been okay. Faith wouldn't have been called, making season three something possibly entirely different. In hindsight, that episode pretty much set the mood for next season and pretty much the enitre series.
Guess logic has to be taken out of the equation.

Just put yourself in the characters' position. If you were to cast this really difficult spell that was of such great importance that the world and some people's lifes could've been saved by it, and had no idea if everything would work the way you planned it, you were tense, would you seriously think of a location change?
I know I wouldn't. ANd like you said, it was day time, they didn't have to assume that any vampire would stop by since it's harder for them to move around with light outside.

Well, if it was of such importance, then location would've been important. One vampire already got in during the day... granted, she burst into flames, but still. When everything went down, it was at night, because of the vampires. If this spell was so important, why wouldn't they have went to a safer location out of reach of vampires?

I agree that they should have picked a better location. However, maybe they were thinking that if the spell didn't work, they might have to go and physically help Buffy. Was the school closer to the graveyard than their houses/apartments?

Eh... very well could be. Of course, there was probably so much going on to realize that it could've been a problem.

Have you never done something just on impulse and later thought 'damn, why didn't I do that instead?'?

Maybe because it's a tv programme, and by doing it in the library, it increases the chance of being attacked and kidnapped, which was the whole point of that part of the storyline?

I know, I just like, what-ifs. It's very entertaining, at least by me who has no life, :(, to figure out if what would happen if a particular moment were slightly altered.
