Along with a preview page for A:AtF 9, Chris Ryall posted the first preview page from Spike: After the Fall. It's not coloured yet, just pencilled.

Looks a tad silly, but not poorly drawn, so I'm pleased with this. I don't like ATF Spike as much as S5 Spike (always enjoyed him when evil, but with a soul is much spottier), but that's probably because of his role in this being questioned and not explicitly stated from the begining of the new canon. I tend to like my good guys great and my bad guys terrible.

Brian Lynch just posted Franco's cover to issue 2.

I think it's pretty cool, but I still prefer the A:AtF version of this.

Erm...guys, you might wanna take a look at the alternate cover for issue 3 O_O

Or y'know, don't, it might kill some of you

Also, some new info from Brian's new blog

1. Even though this is my and Franco's third SPIKE series, there are no appearances from Beck or Betta George or Tok or even Trots the Evil Horse Puppet. George premiered in SPIKE:ASYLUM # 2 and then came back to life in SPIKE:SHADOW PUPPETS #2, so it would have been nice to have him appear, however briefly, in SPIKE:ATF # 2, but the story is king and the fish had no place.

I miss Beck and Tok and Mosaic. I think I'll visit them again, AATF.

2. Illyria is a full-on supporting character in this, and we deal with her current situation. However, if you don't SPIKE:ATF you'll still understand what's going on with her in ANGEL:ATF. And vice versa, actually.

3. Illyria isn't the only character from the ANGEL TV show that makes an appearance.

4. I've written two issues thus far (have an outline for the next two) and this ranks with one of the stories in the upcoming ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL # 7 as my favorite Whedonverse writing, hands down. I'm super proud of how it all plays out. I've also seen Franco's art for issue 1, and it is easily my favorite Franco art yet.

5. Gunn is not the villain in SPIKE:ATF. The villain in SPIKE:ATF would make Gunn wet his pants.

It looks completely non-life threatening to me. If Buffy can get it on with Satsu, I see no reason why Spike should remain celibate. I always thought it was kinda strange for him to remain so throughout Season 5. By this time, he's probably given up on ever seeing Buffy again anyhow, what with the being in hell thing and all. Plus, there was definitely an attraction between him and Fred, which could very well have developed into something more if Wes hadn't been there. Add to that, Illyria thinks of Spike as her "pet," so she obviously has some feelings for him, and she hinted to Wes that she "wished to explore these feelings." With him unavailable, Spike might make a suitable substitute.

I like the cover - am intreagued by it, but don't think this is the beginning of the next big romance.

I like spike as much as every one else but does he really need an after the fall mini series? I mean he has the first night comic to give him a back story. I can see how they can use the spike atf to answer some questions but cant those just as easily be answered in Angel atf?

Dont get me wrong i am eager for spike after the fall, I just hope it is done up right

My first thought on the picture of Angel trying to stake the bald headed guy---"How did Lex Luthor wind up in A:ATF?"

*Raises hand tentatively.*

Umm... is this canon? Is it out yet? If so, is it any good?

Oh... and why are Spike and Illyria in a tarot card?

Tranquillity

It's not out yet - #1 comes out in about a months time.

It is cannon - the story was formulated by Joss and given to Brian Lynch to write, similar to the Angel: After the fall stories.

Is it a tarot card? Could be, i just thought they were going for a macarbe-romantic thing.

Oh, good. I'm not behind, then.

It looks like a Buffyversed version of a tarot card to me. Look how they're stepping out of the card and how the card has a border around it. It's also long and narrow, like a tarot card (and unlike a comic book page, which is wider).

Specifically, it looks like "The Lovers." It's usually a naked Adam and Eve separated by a volcano with an angel floating overhead, with Adam on the right and Eve on the left, but it could also be an angel and cupid or two trees. The card implies harmony and union and indicates that difficult decisions and/or tests or trials must be undertaken... as in a choice to be made (not necessarily about love). It indicates letting go of rational thought and giving up control to emotion, instinct, or a higher power. It means that you will find a path or a challenge or possibly a person with which or whom you will fall in love and without which/whom you will never feel complete. If reversed, the card indicates a lack of willingness or ability to take that step/make that decision.

It also looks like "The Devil," in which a naked Adam and Eve appear -- with horns on their heads and tails extending from their backsides -- separated by the raised throne of the devil. The devil is the central figure. Chains and the pentagram may also come into play. That card is mostly about money and the relentless pursuit of material objects, although it might also indicate a negative type of lust, like obsession. It has to do with ambition, addiction, temptation, etc. It's all about worldly security vs. more spiritual or creative fulfillment. It indicates true evil... the pursuit of material gain no matter what evil things must be done to obtain it. It indicates blackmail, greed, bondage... basically, enslavement to anything really, really unhealthy and bad. If reversed, it does the opposite and indicates someone who is too restrained and never takes risks or sets goals.

What makes me say it looks more like The Lovers than The Devil is the lava flow in the background and the fact that spike, at least, is not in vampire form. If there was a big monster in the back and Spike was all bumpy, I'd pick The Devil. Either way, though... The Lovers makes more sense than The Devil, especially since I don't think money is very likely to preoccupy folks who are, umm, in Hell. Even so, the chain that Spike is holding does make me wonder.

Are we gonna get some freakin' Drusilla in this one, or what? Does anyone know?

I'm very disappointed in the lack of Dru that's been going on ever since season 2 of Angel/season 5 of Buffy. What HAPPENED to her? Why hasn't she come sniffing around after her boys? What on earth does she think of Connor, her metaphysical brother/uncle/grandson? These are things that I, personally, am dying to know. A Spike-centric comic seems like just the place for a return.

Drusilla - as far as I know, she will not turn up in S:AtF, but she might just pop up in the current Buffy arc: Time of your Life.

Brian Lynch does write Spike very well. Must be all the practice he's had with the other Spike books he's written. I'm so looking forward to this.

Even by the first line, "Sodding hell", you can tell it's gonna be done just right

Although, i'm starting to not like Franco's art for Spike, even though it's much better than Runge's for Angel

Hi, I'm new to the board and have read the first two issues online. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could see the third one online. I would buy the comic book, but I have no credit card (so that rules out Amazon.com,etc) and there are no stores that sell comic books anywhere near me. I'm dying to know what happens. I love the comic so far. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated. Spike rules!!!!
