Definitely season 3. I adore that season for the following reasons.
1. It's a high school year (And there's something nice and comfy about those seasons)
2. It has the darkness and consequences that makes Buffy so great (Faith switching, Helpless, Angel coming back, Faith in a coma, Giles getting fired, everyone breaking up...)
3. But is still at the point where Buffy was constantly fun and peppy even in dark times.
4. Had some of the best stand-alone eps ever (::coughs out 'Band Candy'::)
5. Had the Mayor as a Big Bad.
6. No major characters die. For once. And that was a nice safe change so you can just enjoy all the characters when you re-watch it without going 'argh, and such and suchabody is gonna die next episode!'.

Close runner-up is season 5 because that was just a MIND-BLOWING season for me. Utterly, utterly fantastic. That's all I have to say on that matter, haha.

Total tie between s2 and 3, lol same as with Angel. I think I'm kinda bound to like those seasons, because they were the Cordelia richest on Buffy. And well, I love Cordy. Other than that, it's probably the high school thing, because I myself have just finished school so all I ever knew is school.

1. Season 2 for sure, it's a litle bit dark, very heavy on the B/A and full of angst. I just love some angst.
followed by
2. Season 1 (a close second)
3. Season 3 - cause it's 'happy high school Buffy' and the boyfriend's back, her mom gets onboard and things are right with the world, plus Faith is made of win.
4. Season 6 - I love Willow/Tara and dark Willow has a certain magnetism
5. Season 7 - a return to the old school ways, apart from ignoring the Kennedy stuff and the Spuffy stuff and the ridiculous job stuff, it's great!
6. Season 5 - can't love it, love Dawn and think the character is just dandy but i didn't love this season
7. Season 4 - lame-o, but it had some redeeming features - Hush and Beer, Bad for example

I might as well rate it as well.
1. Season 4 - I just love this season. Loved the concept of the initiative, enjoyed the Buffy x Riley relationship more than the Buffy x Spike relationship (but I prefer Spike as a character), loved Spike becoming their prisoner and it had some of the best episodes (Hush, Something Blue, A New Man, Fear Itself, Primeval). And I actually quite like Adam unlike seemingly most other fans.
2. Season 2 - It started of a bit slow, but the Angelus storyline is the best storyline of the entire series in my opinion. The only reason this is not my nr. 1 pick is because season 4 as a whole is better than season 2.
3. Season 3 - Gotta love Faith. I always wanted to see an evil slayer, and Faith certainly didn't disappoint. Also, the Mayor is one of my favourite villains.
4. Season 6 - Probably one of the funniest seasons, solely because of the trio. Also loved Dark Willow and watching Buffy slowly grow up and become more responsible and adult (or at least try). And Once More With Feeling is quite possibly the finest moment of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (besides Hush).
5. Season 8 - I love where this season is going! Twilight seems like an awesome character and I can't wait to see more of Dracula (I'm only up to #12, so I don't know how much of a role he's going to play yet). It's really great to see how much the Buffyverse has evolved when you compare this to season 1.
6. Season 5 - I'm not a big fan of Glory. The season started off great, but eventually it just kind of lost me unfortunately. There were some standout episodes though (The Body, The Gift, Fool for Love, Buffy vs Dracula - if it weren't for the actor who played Dracula).
7. Season 7 - I'm really not sure about this season. I think Spike became a bit too tame in this season and I prefer his character in all the previous seasons, as well as Angel Season 5 (the same goes for Faith actually). It had some great episodes and I loved the season finale, but most of the seasons just couldn't hold up to the previous seasons as far as I'm concerned.
8. Seaosn 1 - It was a great start for a brilliant series, but I rated it this low partially because of the fact that it's only half a regular season. But I did like the Master and the introduction of all the characters.

I've only fully seen S1, S2, S3, and S6. But I have seen roughly 75% of every other season, and I vaguely know what happened in it. So...

#1: S6: It was the first ever whole Buffy season I watched, and I'm a bit of a fanboy I guess you could say. But seriously, it was great. Once More With Feeling, Tara/Willow, Dark Willow, Spike/Buffy, The Trio, the whole "de-skinning" of Warren (probably the greatest moment in all of Buffy), Giles: "I'd like to test that theory", Buffy vs. Willow. It was just great. Nothing beats it.

#2: S3: Faith vs. Buffy. Nuff said. :)

#3: S2/S1: Tie.

I love every season of Buffy but Season seven gets my vote by a smidge. I know it gets criticised a lot for having too much going on and for having too many plot holes and the like but it is the one season where I don't skip any episodes and there is something about each and every one that I LOVE.

I've only seen each season through once, not counting a few random episode rewatches, so I really do need to go through the series again to be sure of my personal favorite order, but as of now:
Seasons 2, 3, and 5 are at the top. 2- I loved that Angel turned evil... all that angst was great. 3- Faith? Obviously. 5- I loved Glory. Though I didn't really like Dawn until season 7. Also, Spike was really adorable with his newfound love for Buffy. Aaand, I thought the ending was fantastic, don't make me try to explain that one.
I did not like season 4 very much--HATED Riley--and to me, college just wasn't as good as high school. Also, I didn't really like season 6 as much as the others, for reasons unknown. I find this ironic, because some of the most impressive episodes in the show came from these seasons.
As for the others, season 1 was a great beginning that got me hooked immediately, though I think the others beat it simply because it was so much shorter. And season 7- Spike. Need I say more?

I'm with Dancing Man...two followed by three. I know 3 is probably better episode to episode but I just love two! It was what got me hooked.

I can't decide...
Somewhere between Season 2 and 3 and 5 and 7...
So I only narrowed down to 4 Seasons... So what?
The only thing that deters me from completely voting for Season 2 or 3 is the Angel/Buffy/WahWah syndrome.
And then of course Season 5 Dawn drove me batty.
And Season 7 was a bit crowded.

Of course, I cannot imagine these Seasons without these flaws...

I'm going to vote Season 5, but purely because that was when I went from liking Buffy to Buffy fanatic.

Thats a tough one.. but my favorite seasons in order would be :

Season 4 - i know a lot of people will disagree with me on this one. but I thought it had some of the best episodes in buffy history lol. I loved Hush and Restless ( very creative episodes and different from the rest )... I felt like I could relate to the whole college freshmen situation that buffy went through in the beginning. Im a big fan of The Harsh Light of Day ( a personal favorite )

Season 3 - I thought it had the best villain out of any season. Loved the Mayor!

Season 6 - a very dark but well written season!

Season 5 - I used to not be a big fan of this season until I got older but now I appreciate it a lot more.

Season 7 - Huge fan of Conversations with Dead People!!! Oh and I like the whole Cookie Dough speech buffy gives lol

Season 2 - I loved Innocence ( i think every girl could relate to what buffy was going through in that episode ) and I loved Becoming

Season 1 - the show was just not developed enough yet... but still an awesome season

Hi Guys, I think season3 is better than others. It's all the episodes are very interesting. Season3 music is fantastic.It's dead Man's Party is interesting episode.

I picked season 3. I love Faith, and Angel pretending to be a baddie... and the Angel/Xander moments when they have to work together...

Season 2 and 6 are tied for a close second... maybe season 5... so it's a 3-way tie lol

And season 4 was my least favorite... There were some good stand alone episodes, and great Spike moments, but it was one of those I just needed to get through in order to move on and finish the series. And I hated Adam. The whole monster parts and people parts thing gives me a good old fashioned wiggins.

Yeah.. Season 3 was my fave!

it has to be season 3 just becasue the whloe school attacks the mayor. u cant say that line in about any other TV series it is what makes buffy so great. strage how no one talks about it after tho. well a few but not as much as i would expect

1. Season 6 - Dark Willow, guys. DARK-WIL-LOW. Seriously.
2. Season 5 - The Gift. Will/Tara. Very family-centered, very coloured, happy.
3. Season 3 - Faith.
4. Season 7 - Like watching a movie, wonderfully built and constructed.
5. Season 2 - Just plainly cute on so many levels, and Angelus, and Becoming.
6. Season 4 - The Initiative plot was good but not enough. A lot of good moments however.
7. Season 1 - Ok, that was the show beginning... But 'Prophecy Girl' was one of the best eps ever.

Season 3 by a mile. Gets its only dud, Dead Man's Party, out of the way early on, and from then on it goes from strength to strength, has some of the best standalones the show's ever done - Band Candy, The Wish, Dopplegangland, Homecoming combined with the show's strongest arc and best villain. Plus add Faith, Wesley and full time Oz, and you've got yourself a great season.

Here's my list:

1 - Season 4. I don't know why I just loved the concept of the Initiative. I also love Spike being a Prisoner. One of the more underrated humor episodes I think is Pangs. "You made a Bear" "I didn't mean to" "Undo it, Undo it". Haha Cracks me up everytime.

2 - Season 2. This is the season that got me hooked for good. Angel turning evil was one of the most risky, and clever ideas I have ever seen. I LOVED it!

3 - Season 3. Great Overall Season. I love the Mayor.

4 - Season 5. I like Glory, but Dawn annoyed me this season.

5 - Season 6. Some great episodes. I like how the show went to some dark places, that we all personally go through at times.

6 - Season 1. Good Start to the series. Some good episodes.

7 Season 7. Not a bad season. Too much going on, but still overall pretty decent. I like the High School and First Evil plot lines.

Season Three Is Def My Fave By A Long Shot because it has lots of Faith and Its Just the Right Mix Of Dark And Funny.....Season 6 really annoyed me at bits, Like The Whole Buffy needs A Job Thing...........Considering I'm really not a fan of Dawn I did like Season Five But This Was Just Because Glory is My Favourite Big Bad I Just Wish Faith Was In Season 5 Cause Faith And Glory Would Have Been Great Together!

In my early Buffy-years i would defintely have said season 2 with s.3 as the next best thing. Nowdays I appreciate the the last ones more. Ask me in two years time and I might have changed my mind again. For now I have to say season 5.

Ok, so I do a full list too:

Those three are pretty close to each other, I like any one of those clearly more than any of the other four. 2 wins over 3 because I considered the Angelus arc somewhat better than the Mayor/Faith one (now that's sure to draw a heated discussion *g*), and they both rank before 6 as I've always had a very soft spot for the high school seasons - which is a main reason why I tend to be (possibly undeservedly) harsh on S4.

Gotta say though, I'm rewatching the first half of S4 atm (haven't got the second half taped) and I definitely like it much better than the last time I've seen it (it's been a while). Even laughed myself silly at "Beer Bad", even though that's an ep you definitely shouldn't try to take seriously. Buffy Want Beer!! :lmao:

Still, while the season may start to grow on me, Riley doesn't. :wink:

Season 3. Definitely.

All the characters' individual storylines were interwoven so well throughout the whole season. So much between them all.

And it's the last season where the entire original cast was together. :D

Six, with two as a close second.

I loved OMWF through Seeing Red. I could not take my eyes off the screen. I just kept popping DVDs into my player. OMWF was full of singing. I mean, come on! Tabula Rasa cracked me up. Smashed surprised the heck out of me (plus, it had the freeze ray! hahaha). Wrecked had freaky Trainspotting stuff going on, which I loved. Gone cracked me up (flying pizza!). Doublemeat Palace filled me with empathy and made me remember my food service days. I didn't like Dead Things so much, I'll grant you, but I really liked Older and Far Away. I liked how everything with Dawn sort of came to a head in that one. Okay, so I didn't like As You Were (that whole egg thing was never really explained), but Next comes Hell's Bells, which is awesome! Normal Again was a mind trip, Entropy was funny AND we got Tillow back, and then Seeing Red was the most intense episode of TV ever. I think I was shocked at every turn. I was so engaged for this entire run that I just can't help but choose it.

I'll spare you my poorly written litany of the virtues of season 2 and just say that I loved Angelus and I loved Sprusilla. Put the two (or three) together and what do you get? A happy Palabra, that's what! Besides, Giles was so brave.

I made a decision a long time ago that I was going to shelf my DVD's for a while, and then watch the series again with fresh eyes. It's been a long time since I've watched BtVS, and I'm now up to mid-season 4. And I think this review of the series may change my ranking a little. The one thing I'll say at this point - I've never been a huge fan of the Buffy-Riley relationship(which is a huge part of season 4), but all I'll say is that I think I may have been a bit harsh on season 4 as a whole.

Anyone else ever done this after going back and re-watching?

Hehe... we really do have a lot in common, tastewise, don't we? It was exactly the same for me - while I hated S4 on first view, I liked it a lot better when I recently rewatched it for the first time like three years or so and had to change my ranking of the seasons accordingly.

Anyway, I know there are people here who like Riley *shudder*, but has anyone, ever, been "a huge fan of the Buffy-Riley relationship"? :biggrin:

season 3.. definitely.
I loved Faith, the drama amongst the scoobies (initially with Buffy lying to them about Angel and then all of the scandal and break ups lol), the last year of High School, Giles development, the Mayor, Joyce's involvement and her attempt to get involved in the slaying, 'Band Candy', 'The Wish' and 'Graduation Day'!!! There is so much more to talk about! I loved it all. OOOOHHH and Willow: "Hey Big Boy, Come and get it."

I too love season 3 although its hard to choose. I wouldn't say season 4 was my least favourite (that's season 1). I loved the character changes in season 4 and the beginning of Willow and Tara and Xander and Anya. I thought Xander's storyline in that season was the best with his friends all leaving him to go off to college and him trying to escape the basement and find his way in life.

i have to say that season 2 and 3 were both my favorites but if i had a gun to my head or a stake to my heart i would say 2 over 3 mainly becuase i like the relationship and friction between buffy and angel

season 6 definitely!
i love virtually every episode and it has me going through every emotion from laughter to crying. i love tara/willow and the progression of dark willow... watching season 1 and 2 i never would've believed willow could turn like that!! seeing buffy brought back to life and the trauma that comes with it, her relationship with spike and him ending up with his soul... just wow.
plus once more with feeling is amazingly fabulous!!!

This was REALLY hard because I had to chose between season 5 and season 2! I ended up voting for season 5 but it was really close! Season 5 just had so much passion and emotion in it!

ALRIGHT! I have an official order of favorites now:

1) Season 6
2) Season 4
3) Season 7

7) Season 5

As you can see, I'm a much bigger fan of the After High School Years more than the High School years. I think I'm gonna watch every episode AGAIN in order, with no breaks inbetween seasons, and I just might change my mind. You never know.

Hmm, i guess i would go in this order : S6, S5, S4, S7, S3, S2, S1.

A lot i guess is affected by the fact i cant see S1 or S2 anymore (i have rest of seasons :P) and last saw them 8 or so years ago :P S3 i liked Mayor (who kinda is my favorite Big Bad even), but i am not big fan of Faith. Perhaps S3 would be higher if no Angel spin-off, but it is there and lessens impact of Angel and Cordelia as i like them (especially Angel, did not really like him much on Buffy) more there.

I'm torn between season 1 and 6. Season 1 has a sentimental hold on me, though it has it's flaws. In all actuality it could be a toss up between any of the other seasons, but I'm gonna go with 1 because I can't see many others voting for it.

I really liked Season 3, but it didn't have Spike, which makes it lose about fifty cool points. And Season 2 was really great, too.
And Season 4 was great until The Initiative storyline ruined it. And same with Season 6, only replace The Initiative with Spuffy. (I didn't mind Season 7 Spuffy, but Season 6 Spuffy was just plain annoying!)
I'm not sure what to choose!

This is insanely difficult, because I really love each season. Season 1 I would rate lowest with a knife at my throat, simply because it doesn't really hook you (me), there are too many one-off episodes (which I understand can be necessary when starting off a new series, you don't wan't to loose viewers who missed one episode. Still, I actually saw season 1 on DVD and then held off buying another season for over a year, can you imagine? I wasn't sure I liked the series that much. But from season two, wow! And returning to season 1 now I really like it.

After that, I saw the rest of the episodes in (very) rapid succession. That could be one reason why I don't have a problem with the more depressing story lines like "Spuffy" in season 6 (if that means what I guess it means). If I have had to wait weeks for her to cheer up and get back in business (hey, you were only dead and brought back to hell, get over it!) I might have felt differently. As it is, I love season 6. And 5,7,2,3 and 4. And 1, when I think about it.

Mine is definitely season 6.
It has everything you could want in a season of Buffy. It had drama with Buffy being brought back and Willow turning evil, it had horror (nothing is more disturbing than Anya cutting her face in Afterlife), it had some classic comedy moments in Tabula Rasa and any scene with the Trio. It even has a musical!
It contains most of my fave episodes. It has my fave episode of all time, OMWF, and my second one, Tabula Rasa. It has my fave season finale with Grave and Tara was featured more in this season than any others (and she's my fave charrie). Although it does have the worst moment in the whole series, for me, with Tara's death...I cried so much at that.
Willow turning dark was a great twist and something that I didn't see coming.
Overall I think it's just an amazing season!

I voted season five as my favourite. I think it has some amazing episodes, and I just love the overall story arc - plus the finale is fantastic.

And if I were ranking the seasons in order of preference...

1: Season Five for the reasons stated above.
2: Season Six - It has some of my favourite episodes (OMWF, Tabula Rasa), plus the Spike/Buffy relationship.
3: Season Three - S3 is pretty faultless with a great Big Bad, great storyline and some good standalones.
4: Season Seven - Whilst the Potentials got annoying after a while, I love the overall arc of this season plus all the great standalones at the very beginning.
5: Season Two - Again, some really great episodes plus a fantastic finale.
6: Season Four - I really, really love a lot of the standalones in this season (Hush, Something Blue, A New Man) - but add in Riley, the Initiative and Adam and it slips into second to last place for me.
7: Season One - It's great, but it's just not up to the standard of the rest of the seasons.
