Okay, did Angel annoy anyone in 'Welcome To the Hellmouth'? or is it just me? I'm not knocking David I'm knocking the character.. I thought that he was so lame when he first met Buffy... And he was such a smarta$$ I was like pfffft while I was watching him.. And that velvett jacket - please..

I thought his entry was a bit cheesy. And so was his whole behaviour. Maybe he was meant to act like that, Angel wasn't supposed to be a permanent character.
And even with all the lameness, I still managed to fall in love with DB in that episode.

I didnt think he was that bad. You also have to give chance for the writers to get a hold of the character.

I actually quite liked Angels smartbum attitude in the first few episodes, it sure beat the whiny mopey Angel that the writers turned him into. The boring Angel from Seasons 2 and 3 needed some oomph, and I thought the character paled in comparison to when he actually has a bit of attitude and a sense of humour.

I liked him! I watched it again the other day, I think I prefer him in the first few eps over the rest of the season. But yeah, the cheese factor is there.

Willow23: Definitely only referring to Angel and not Angelus. I kinda thought Angelus was funny... Does this make me twisted?

I prefer the smart ass Angel from the pilot than the punk ass bitch they turned him into for his run on BtVS.

i liked him too and was expecting him to be more like this through the series, or at least the entire 1st season. And the maybe 2 i could see him changing into more of who he was with her.

Caitaintdead, Thanks for responding to my query. As to your question about whether that makes you twisted or not, well, I agree so if you're twisted, I suppose I am as well. Especially because I find Angelus more attractive than Angel.

Although I dislike the Bangel relationship I do like Angel throughout the entire series as well as the Angel series. I think the most interesting aspect is to look at his hair and build in the last season of Angel and then the first episode of Buffy. HOLY CRAP! Completely different and he looked like he was thrown right out of a terrible '90s music video. But the darkness and mystery of him is what I think made him fantastic in season 1. I think his mysteriousness started to lack in season 2 but then when they introduced Angelus, that made up for it. The smartass angel is the Angel I like. The smartass part of him comes from his Angelus side, and let's face it Angelus is prolly one of the best charecter twists ever. If Angel had been that sappy lovey dovey Angel from the first half of season 2 I don't think he would have been made into a main charecter nor had his own spinoff.

I loved Angel in the pilot. I mean I love Angel in general but even to me his broodiness can get a little too much. In the first episode he had a very sexy arrogance that I thought he pulled off really well. He played the mysterious, dangerous good guy very well. I know you can explain his broodiness to the fact that he was in love with Buffy in later episodes, and that he was having to look at his qualities through the eyes of someone else, and to be fair, he had a lot to brood about, but it would have been nice if they'd kept his character a little bit more easy going.

Angel was pretty annoying in the first couple of episodes. I think this was because joss and the writers hadn't really fleshed out his character - it says in one of the commentaries that they hadn't even decided to make him a vampire yet.

Angel wasn't supposed to be a permanent character.
In the unaired pilot he didn't even exist as a character.

I thought that he was so lame when he first met Buffy... And he was such a smarta$$ I was like pfffft while I was watching him.. And that velvett jacket - please..
Actually, later was lame.

Angel + Buffy + in love = lame lame lame.
Angel/Angelus + snarky = more fun to watch. The writers understood that, and thus we got Spike.
Angel + velvet jacket = vampire on apparently busted Buffy meter.

Spike + Buffy = more fun to watch.

Angel on his own show and away from Buffy pining = more fun to watch.
