Can someone answer a question for me? Okay, when Dark Willow and Buffy were fighting ("...and I'll show you what being a Slayer really means." :) ), why the hell didn't Anya go all demony and join in kicking Willow's ass. I mean seriously, she could've seriously had a go with Willow. Either after Buffy got beat up or maybe have a handicap match. :)

(Anya's a jerk!)

(Is the pic I chose, Anya? I can't tell...)

To answer your question, daywalker, yep, vengeance demons have super strength. They're not as strong as Slayers or Willow, though.

But, even if she had been as strong as Willow and Buffy, Anya was in the corner of the room using her counterspell. If she stopped, Willow could have taken them both out in the blink of an eye.

What Crazy Flakes said. Anya was the one able to cast and able to read the very powerful counterspell that protected Jonathon and Andrew and was currently protecting Buffy from Willow's magicks. Anya was playing just as big a part in that fight as Buffy as she was essentially stopping Willow from being able to just kill Buffy on the spot with a black-eyed look.

This was especially heroic as for one she was terrified due to the fact that Willow was so much stronger than demon-her, and for the other Anya was technically evil yet she was helping the good guys.

Ok, you answered one question, but why didn't she even attempt to fight Willow when she was choking and was like, "Help!" She could've at least attempted...

Reply to Jenny: What do you mean?

Erm, speaking for Jenny (so erm, sorry if I'm way off base in my answer, haha) I think her comment was referring to your question over whether your pic was of Anya or not. She was telling you it was in fact a picture of Harmony. Which it is.

And as for why Anya was so easily choked; Willow had just done magicks on herself to make her STRONGER than the SLAYER. And the Slayer is stronger than a vengeance demon any day. So if Willow is even stronger than Buffy...then Anya didn't stand a chance in a game of fisticuffs.

Is a vengeance demon really weaker than a slayer? Because in the episode "Beneath You" Anya sent Spike clear across The Bronze with just a pimp slap. I don't remember much of Buffy and Anya's battle in Selfless so I might be wrong.

Edit:

I think that the writers didn't know they were gonna make Anya super strong until season 7. Because all of the vengeance demon encounters before that have been very... meh. In "The Wish" Anyanka got slapped by Giles and it took her down. The whole thing with Dark Willow was already mentioned. If she had her season 7 strength while Dark Willow was around, she could have held her own. Although it could have possible been that Anya was either scared of Willow or she didn't want to fight a friend.

Edit Again:

It could also be that Vengeance Demons can't take as much beatdown as they dish out.

Anya had no time to do anything she was doing the counter spell, and when Willow choked her there really wasn't much
time to react! I mean her mind was: "I have to do the counter spell and now Willow has stopped me and oh god..." etc.
She managed to yell help or something before she was chucked across the room. Plus, in season six she wasn't a very stable Vengence Demon. Not until season seven was she able to battle and cause some real damage.

Anya wouldn't go up against Willow.

Okay lets be honest I and I think everyone would agree Anya was no match for Willow. But buffy wasn't either I mean Willow was just too strong but that doesn't mean she couldn't have tried to fight back. Many characters have fought against villians who were stronger than them that was the theme of all the buffy seasons with a big bad. So mean whats the worst that could have happened, okay she could have died but just being there she was putting her life on the line. And she still got knocked out.

Because they didn't want to waste time and money on makeup for her vengeance demon face? :p

She DID put her life on the line helping them. She stayed and did the counter spell to help Willow and the other's when she could've easily teleported to the other side of the globe.

If she broke off from the counter spell, then Willow would've gained full power back and killed them all quickly. In my mind that makes her smart not a jerk :p Is it also possible that she didn't want to fight a friend?

she wanted to help willow not kick her ass, simple. she came from the same dark vengency place and probably got what willow was going through more than they gave her credit for.

yes i love anya!

I would say when i saw it i thought she could easily have stopped Willow especially when she first took the books. And also when her powers waned she could have defeated her. She mentioned in "The Wish" her power does not just lie in wishes. I think she just that badly underestimated Giles.

I am not sure why she avoided confrontations with willow when it was obvious all she had to do was teleport to her and hit her unconcious with single blow probably. Might be sympathy (Tara loss vs wedding failure), D'hoffryn orders (he wants Willow to join Vengeance) or spent too much time as human and forgot she can go on offensive and win :P

In reality (meaning by writers, not storyline) it was because it then would not have had the ending that it had.

Overall concerning Anya (Anyanka if to be precise) fighting ability, she would have made terrifying enemy depending on how well she could use her teleportation ability offensively. Brutal strength she probably is match, or even better, than slayer. In my opinion questionable parts are her skill and experience. In that sence it was especially disappointing not to see Spike and Anya fight. Especially considering by time "Selfless" took place she no longer could teleport. And in that fight i dont think neither of the girls were fighting with full heart.

Anya is one of my fave characters and i think she could have done more but its not in her nature.

She is selfish , she only helps when shes in danger really but she learns in time xxx

Everybody's forgetting that it's still Anya we're talking about. The spell wasn't to protect the Trio.......Duo.....or Buffy. It was to protect the shop! She can't have this crazy witch coming in and blowing everything up with magic! Willow and Giles did a hell of a lot more damage to her goods than Willow and Buffy did. Think of the money people!
