In this episode, when the Fang Gang goes to attack the puppets, is it just my imagination, or when Puppet Angel says, "It's time to kick your ass all the way to Hell," doesn't he sound almost EXACTLY like John Wayne? Or am I just missing the Duke so much that I've deluded myself?

I think so. The puppet "over-acting" is one of my favorite parts. Although, I have learned, not the best episode to show to "hook" people because they think the over-acting is normal.

:lmao: Sorry for the giggles... I am just imaging a new fan being disappointed when David isn't so over the top in other episodes!
I do love this episode, for the text and subtext... which is metaphorical puppet Angel dangling from W&H's strings. It's great... and I'm sure the John Wayne is in there somewhere... under the surface.

John Wayne voice? NO. John Wayne mannerism? YES. I think what made you think of John Wayne was the scene before the statement. The gang emerges from the office in that OK Coral walk to a fight then the camera pans down and the sword is being carried over his shoulders which gave the John Wayne walk image.

LOL! It's not so much that they're disappointed later, as they don't get to another episode because they think that one was so cheesy. When I try to explain it was SUPPOSED to be cheesy, they don't get it.

I've just seen the ep... finished first airing here half an hour ago, and I have to say HOLY SHITE! Perhaps I'm reacting a bit stronger than usual as I've not really slept enough last night and thus had to run on concentrated cappuccino to stay awake until Buffy & Angel came on, but I'd spontaneously rate that as one of the top 5 episodes of either series, ever! Not even the idiotic German ep title could detract from it. (The Kinslayer knows what I'm talking about. :D )
Unbelievable that an ep can be both hysterically funny ("wee little puppet man", "...and my nose comes off" - just two of the scenes where I fear my laughing fits might have woken up a neighbor or two!), and just a few minutes later more uneasing and horrifying than just about any other Buffy or Angel ep I've ever seen (actually I'm afraid to go to sleep right now, fearing to have nightmares over the photo of that little girl in the lifeforce-sucked coma, to whose eery grin no Gentleman could really hold a candle ::disturb: ).
Seeing puppetized Angel finally freely express more emotion than brooding or moping was a treat, too. Almost like feeding Joyce band candy! And I like both Nina (probably one of the few who does) and the Fresley kiss - though even if I hadn't gotten spoilered already, I'd have bet heavily against either ship lasting for long-term happiness (I know for Fred it will be anything but long-term, now... :grim:::crying2: )
10 out of 10, if ever I saw an ep that deserved it!

^ How is it translated in German?

O.O Killer puppets? Seriously? Why don't they just literally translate these things instead of being retarded?
Well, that's one of those weird phenomena you just have to accept about German television (for lack of ability to do anything about it, certainly not for lack of crying-to-god frustration over it!) - whatever the translators get paid, it's too much.
They sometimes even totally ruin surprise plot elements of an ep by basing the title around that... I don't know whether you're into StarTrek, but they named the German version of the Classic Series' ep "Devil in the Dark" - masterful red herring of a title! - the utterly spoilerish "Horta rettet ihre Kinder" ("Horta saving her children"). That's almost like titling a whodunnit crime novel "And By the Way, it was the Pharmacist". ::dead::

I totally for the first time fell a little bit in love with Angel...as a puppet. He "acted" so great. The doll was awsomeness! When he walked around with his mouth open he reminded me af a Fraggle XD
Angel: Harmony, get my call list.
Harmony: Um...
Angel: And Spike needs a car.
Spike: You heard the puppet.
Angel: I was turned into a puppet last night.
Nina: I... uh... wow. Are you - are you okay?
Angel: I'm made of felt.
[takes off nose]
Angel: And my nose comes off.
Lorne the Host: Maybe you have some type of puppet cancer.
Angel: I do not have puppet cancer! Come on, guys. This is a serious situation. I'm a puppet, and there are children's lives at-
[sees the time]
Angel: Hey, it's Smile Time!
