I don't think Buffy actually does put him to sleep with a tranq in 'Beauty and the Beasts.' *But* he has been put to sleep by a tranq dart in Ats on a number of occasions. I think they did to Angelus during s4 more than a few times :lmao: And Willow did it to vamp Willow in 'Dopplegangland' as well.

It doesn't make sense, you're right. But then neither does vampires having sex, since no blood flow means no erection for Angel or Spike.

Both are goofs IMO.

And sorry I'm rather new myself, I'm not entirley sure what the blocks are under our names? I have a theory they grow bigger the more posts you make, or you get more when you get more rep points, but I could be completely wrong? :)

Now, I don't know about the tranquilizer, honestly, do you really need a pulse for it to work? Well, maybe we got some med people here who could shed some light on it :)

I do know about the green blocks though. This is your karma/reputation. When people read your posts, they have the option to either agree or disagree with you (you can do that via the little scale icon in the up right corner of a post). From how often and who (dis)agrees with you, you get these points. And the blocks show how many points you got. 11 is the maximum of blocks I think, after that only the title changes (first one with all 11 blocks full is 'Rogue demon hunter', but after some time you get 'Champion of the powers that be', for example). Hope that was an acceptable explanation. If not, there are some threads in the Help section and the FAQ, dealing with this I think.

Vampires have mystical blood flow. This is how they can get drunk, have erections and feel the effects of drugs. This is how Spike knocked out Dru. He was strong enough to cut off the blood flow to her brain.

However the blood flows in a vampire, whether by physical or mystical means, Whedon's vampires DO have blood flow from some source, also a stomach that can absorb/digest something besides blood, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get drunk. The biggest flaw in the whole tranquilizer thing is that, regardless of what type of drug used, or what dosage, there is nothing that would render even a mouse unconscious almost instantly, as they are depicted, especially anything as powerful as a vampire or werewolf. Just chalk it up to one of those "cringe, ignore the mistake, and enjoy the story" moments, much like the cowboy whose SIX shooter fires a dozen or more times without reloading.

I look at it this way: vampires HAVE to have blood to (un)live. Their bodies cannot make/keep it's own blood - they must get blood from their victims. And as Spike once said "Blood is life, children" - so even tho they have someone else's blood in them, that blood serves the body's purpose to do what it needs to do; meaning they CAN get drunk, be put to sleep, etc.

I swear, since becoming a Buffy fan, I can rationalize anything. :D

Vampires have a minimal bloodflow, Humans pump blood through their Arteries at 10 times atmospheric pressure but Vampires may have much lower pressures and movement, like a Human who is in a trance or heavily sedated.

But as long as blood flows, the darts drug would move through it and attach to key nerve endings doping the Sodium ion impulse and knocking them out all the same.

Which was designed to introduce large amounts of the poison into the individual cells in order to kill him, but we see whatever minimal blood flow, whether the Heart is beating to make it flow or not, does deliver some of the poison and severely impacts Angel's senses making him dizzy and nauseous.

The Initiative drugged all its Vampires through the blood they fed them, which knocked them out for hours at a time to experiment on them. And in Season 5 Spike has a local anesthetic for the brain surgery which seems to work just fine, numbing his scalp and brain throughout the procedure.

The Season 3 Vampire is addicted to drugs taken orally which means the dissolved drugs passed through the stomach wall into the blood the same way it would in a Human.

Spike even mentioned blood already saturated with narcotics/hallucinogenics from a Hippy affected him the same way it would anyone else.

So yes there is something to their blood that causes it to move and act as it normally would, delivering any compounds in the plasma into cells or to nerves as it would when they were alive.

My theory is that the demonic energy that animates the undead body resides in the bloodstream and absorbs nutrients/chemicals/etc. from borrowed blood.

It certainly fits in with the concept of blood having mystical qualities for vampires.
