Vlad Tepes, the historical Dracula, was born in 1410, so, human life included, he would be just short of 600 years old today. The Master's age was never given as far as I can recall (maybe someone else knows), but I got the impression that he was much older than that.

While we're talking about Dracula. He had these certain 'party tricks', like truning into a bat etc, can every vampire learn that or do you have to be like maybe 500+ or something to learn spells like that? I mean, it would definitely pay off, nobody could really kill Dracula.

Wasn't the Master supposed to be 800 or something like that? He was definitely younger than Kakistos, according to Giles anyway.

I think it's time 2 get WIKIPEDIA happening... lol
Okay, according to the BTVS Monster book, The Master is around 600 years old..
According to Wikipedia:
"Joss Whedon's script for the pilot ("Welcome to the Hellmouth"; the first episode of Buffy) indicates that the character's actual name is Heinrich Joseph Nest, and his age is 600 years."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_%28Buffyverse%29
I completely understand thinking he is like 2000 though, because he is so physically impaired.. And I always thought, okay if Angel is the odd 250 y.o how come he's not even started to uglify yet?? Darla brings up an even stronger argument, she was like 400 y.o, and she's hot!! Doesn't really make sense I don't think, because when we saw the flashback of when he turned/sired Darla in the AtS episode (which I think was titled 'Darla'), he was already ugly, and this was like 400 years ago.. So do the math, if he's 600 in 1997, minus 400 years back to when he sired Darla, he'd be around 200 then. This was younger than Angel, yet he still looked the way he did even then.. I think it's just a bit of an inconsistency in the writing.

Didnt Giles say the master was the oldest vampire on record? im sure he did.
if Dracula is 600, and he aint started to uglify, then i wold say he gotta be well over 1000.

I don't think that becoming ugly had to do only with the master's age,it was also the craft of his powers..I read somewhere(don't remember where)that each vampire hadn't the same change as the years passed..so Darla remained HOT while the Master lets say wasn't that good looking :P

Maybe these appearance changes are connected to who they are? I can imagine the Master was really craving power and liked to have his vamp face on permanently, whereas Darla liked to wear pretty things and look pretty. Maybe that's what's caused it, the Master is a lot more demon than other vampires.

Remember, the bellow mentioned Kakistos -- who was so old that he had "his hands are actually cloven hooves".
Maybe that's was also special feature specific to particular vampire.

And remember Russel Winters? 1st episode of Angel. He was a very unique looking vamp too. also a power craver

Regarding an earlier post i did: Giles does not say in welcome/harvest masters the oldest on record. for somereason i thought i heard giles say that on s1.
How old is ancient?? remember the master was so old that his bones didnt turn to dust!
Well kakestos is *ancient* and his bones did dust with the rest of him.
(did it say kakestos was ancient?)

I read somewhere about how in Joss' original script The Master was supposed to be 600 years old, thereby making him only 200 when he sired Darla. But yet he still had his demonic appearance. So at some point Joss just decided he should forget the specific age of the Master.
I've watched my Buffy (and Angel) DVDs many times over the years, and can tell you with certainty that the specific age of The Master was never mentioned on the air in either of those series....just that he's really old, according to the Council records.
It can still be assumed that he's much more advanced in age than old Drac, since the Dark Master....bater is only about 600, give or take, as has already been mentioned by others here.

I don't want to confuse the issue......nah, who am I kidding, of course I want to confuse the issue. Where do the Turok-hans fit into the equation? They are neanderthal, they are the vampires that modern vampires fear. Whilst it was said they were an entirely different race, they weren't a different species as they were still vampires. But age wise, if they were neanderthal wouldn't they be older than little Draccy and the master, and Kakistos ?

yeah, you would think so,they have to be. if they have just been stuck down in the hellmouth , they could be thousands of years old.
