Angel's Tattoo

Does anybody know for sure whether the tattoo on the back of Angel's right shoulder is real or, like the one on Faith's arm, just makeup? The reason I'm asking is, I could swear that I've seen that shoulder without it.

Its fake i think. i wouldnt be suprised if its real though.
I cant remember a specific moment when you see his back again in buffy or angel
(maybe in beauty & the beast) i think they are careful when angels topless not to show his back

I read or heard somewhere that the makeup people used a stamp, and when Angel was going to be seen with his shirt off, they'd stamp the tattoo onto him so it looked exactly the same every time.

When you say real, do you mean real on Angel or real on DB?

Well I checked some screens and at least on the show they seem to be careful to keep it (although they also try to reveal it as little as possible)

I meant, is the tattoo on the actor, or is it just something particular to the Angel character like the fake tattoo on Eliza Dushku's arm when she plays Faith.

Yeah it's fake. There are a couple of scenes were they mess up and he's without it.

I dont know if there are screenshots of it missing, SS, but i do remember seeing it myself and reading it on a list of bloopers. could have happened on Angel, not Buffy...so ill double check and get back to you with the episode(s).

It's also a very popular fan tattoo, so ive seen. if you search buffy tattoos, that and faiths are like muy popular (but thats why id never get either IF i were to get a buffy tat).

Fake... I've seen him in things since being in Buffy (I think maybe a film called Valentine???) but he doesn't have it. Plus there are one or two mess ups in Buffy and Angel without the tattoo. It's cool though.

Edit:

Angel has a large Celtic gryphon that's holding the letter "A" between it's legs. The "gryphon" is actually the god Phoenix, the story is that the bird Phoenix rose up from the ashes. Meaning: That when you die, you'll eventually come back some day if you are strong enough

Yep, it's a stamp, I've seen it. Dayne Johnston (The guy who did the make-up for 'Angel') auctioned it off at one of the Conventions I was at. I think it went for £200. Probably 'cause DB touched it! lol
