Ok I have now seen Spike, Angel, Buffy and Faith in leather trousers. Surly that cant be the best materiel for some one who frequently is kicking people / things. I no they looked dam good on them but with all Buffys speeches in season 7 particularly about sacrifice and stuff she should lose the leather trousers. ! Any one else agree?

I've never worn leather pants (I'm too heavy to make them look good), but from what I've seen, there's two different kinds. Regular, supple leather that probably moves very easily, and the shiny "pleather" stuff that Buffy and Faith wear. I don't think the pleather would move as easily as leather, and with side kicks and stuff they'd probably rip the crotch seam right out. So they should probably really have special pants made up with that extra piece in the crotch to keep that from happening, but then being a Slayer would be EXPENSIVE. And, anyway, it's TV. They're WAY more worried about appearance than reality, anyway. :)

(You forgot Wesley in his "rogue demon hunter" get up.)

Between the leather coats, jackets, pants, and boots worn in the two shows, I'm surprised that PETA never tried to boycott them,

(and vamp Willow)

Well, what can you say, leather pants qualify as hot. And honestly, when seeing those gorgeus characters (and come on, every single one of us describes at least one Buffyverse character as 'hot'), what do people care more about, realistic clothes, or hotness?

I wear leather pants from time to time. I agree with Blondie Bear. When I was in high school, I had a pair of pleather pants. They looked cool, man, but they were very thin and fragile. One day, a file cabinet jumped out of nowhere and ripped a hole in the thigh. There was no way to repair the hole and the pants died.

A few years later, my parents bought me *real* leather pants for my b-day -- they were made of the same soft, supple leather that you find on a nice leather jacket from a leather store. They don't have that same uber hot fit that pleather pants have, but they are really comfy and durable and oh-so-soft. They're a lot more comfy than jeans. With frequent or hard use, they would probably scuff and wear over time the same way a well-worn leather jacket does. Real leather is pretty durable. As it is, I wear them maybe once a year or so and they still look and smell new. I imagine a slayer could get a decent year's use out of a nice pair of leather pants.

As SS said, the leather makes the actors/actresses looked damned good and it is TV after all (As Joss said '...looks way better than he should. But this is a TV show so get over it') but like Blondie Bear said there are two types of leather.
I myself have owned many leather pants in the past (I went through a short, brief stage okay? Haha) and I always had the very supple, flexible variety because the tight kind is not only uncomfortable but...it squeaks. Haha. The supple flexible variety is very soft also and from my experience I really don't think the characters would have any problem delivery high kicks in the items. Plus leather is very hard wearing and would stand up against all that onslaught haha.

The only thing that ever puzzled me was- lots of leather in CALIFORNIA?! When I went through my leather-trousers period I was in New York whereit is admittedly colder than California. It's mostly the reason why I did start wearing them- I never really had the option/opportunity to back home! Haha.

Leather is ok, if it fits. Tracky pants that fit do the same job, its just that leather looks a damned sight better. As far as looks go the tracky pants are a damned sight more offensive to look at, unless you like looking at male or female genitalia and on Buffy that would have meant an R rating.

I agree that the characters look good in the leather pants ;) So yeah, I think they were worn to be aesthetically pleasing rather than for practicality.

On a side note, is anyone being reminded of Ross Gellar from 'Friends' and his leather pants? :D Hilarious....

^ I guess it depends on how much you care about fashion trends and rules. I, myself, despise the big tunic-like shirts and incredibly low-waisted pants and whatnot that are in style these days. I prefer more classic lines. I also like darker colors (like red and black) and smooth feeling materials like leather and that fake silky stuff. Now, I have had to adjust somewhat; I can't live in a vacuum. I do have to buy new clothes now and then and I do wear my newer clothes much more often than I wear my older ones. But I also sometimes pull out my old 90s clothes and wear them just because I feel more comfy in them.

I guess I'm a renegade. lol. I also wear white after Labor Day every once in awhile. Last time I wore my leather pants was more than a year ago... but if I had the opportunity to go to a club or somewhere, I'd probably pull them out and wear them with a cute backless halter top or something. For me, I think the current trends are ugly, so I'd rather wear what *I* like even though it's outdated than wear clothes that I think are ugly just because they're in style.

i dont think the leather pants were so much of a fashion statement as it was to symbolise sex, strength and evilness. if u recall the moments they had them on the show...angel only wore them when he was angelus, faith wore them...well all the time but shes faith and she was a big evil, buffy wore them to fight faith to cure angel - when she knew she had to kill a human being, willow only has the vamp and wesley had them when he was that (hilarous) try-hard demon hunter. i thought it was thought out really well.
im not sure if there might have been a couple of episodes were buffy was wearing them without a plan behind them but generally i think that they were symbolic
of course, and i agree with Dyoll here, they wouldnt have been the best when it came to fighting

Well SoBlind in response to your post I can remember Buffy wearing leather pants in:

Buffy vs Dracula (The bright pink ones)
The Replacement (The neat brown ones that I coveted so much)
And I think a few times more in season 5. And I think that was less to do with sex and/or evil and more to do with the fact that in 2000/2001 leather was making a real comeback. Haha.

...and the red pants when she fought Faith in faith's apartment, and the black pants and jacket when the gang was trying to run away from Glory...

I don't have any leather trousers but I do have a leather jacket which I've had for ages. It still only just about fits.

lol! You're too funny.

Any leather outfitter will sell leather pants in at least the basic black, with some of them selling a few more creatively colored items, as well. For 90s-style pleather pants, though, you'll want to check out consignment shops, thrift shops, yard sales, and the like. Also, to get the Buffy and Faith fit, you'll need to go at least a size or two smaller than the actual size of the wearer.

See, that's the thing I never got about the leather pants that people wear on TV: the fit. How do they fit in the waist without cutting into the skin in order to create the dreaded muffin top, but fit two sizes too small everywhere else? Also, how did they find leather pants in like, size 2 petite? The answer must be custom tailoring. The smallest size I've been able to find in stuff like that has been a four or so and definitely not cut for petites. The result is that my leather pants were always sort of baggy and loose-fitting. As I am both smaller than a size 4 and petite, my leather pants fit sorta like jeans, not like sexy, tight leather. Alas!
