there are a few spoilers below

when i heard that angel was continuing in comic form i was overjoyed. i had just finished a bunch of the buffy comics (season 8) and i was very happy with the way joss's characters were still keepin-on after the show ended. so needless to say i couldnt wait for the angel comic because i was like "what happened at the end of the last episode? tell me now!!!" and since the arc was being called "after the fall" i was like, "cool. we are going to see what happened when the cameras stopped rolling!"

.......cut to today.....

i am very disappointed with the comic and specifically, its' title. i guess that anything that takes place after the show ended is technically "after the fall," but come on, shouldn't it have started with angel and company in the alley getting ready to take on all the demons? i was waiting for at least the first few pages to be nothing but fighting. further, the arc is lasting way too long. i mean, what story are we following? angel not being a vamp? LA being brought to hell? angel fighting the demon lords? spike being a demon lord? connors quest to save more humans? agnel having flashbacks? that retarded fish and gunn? etc.

having a bunch of story lines works for tv but not comics....well, not a comic that doesnt have a firm foothold yet anyway. its too much too soon.

please please please, idw, if you are reading this, would you mind wrapping up one of the story lines? i feel like you are playing with your food. if you dont want to, give the comic to dark horse; they know how to do it right.

also, stop being so pretentious. writing things like you did at the end of #5 is ridiculous. quote "to be continued...after first night (and yes, we are aware of how cruel we are)." stop messing up the comic! put your focus into drawing better characters and having a better story line, not trying to pull yourself into joss's inner circle of friends.

The single biggest thing that I was looking forward to in this series was some sort of explanation of just how Angel, Spike, and Illyria got out of that alley. We've gone 7 issues so far, and I STILL want to know how they survived. I'm beginning to honestly believe that Joss never expected a Season 6, and really has not a clue as to how he could get the good guys out of that alley in one piece, so he's just stalling while he thinks something plausible up.

And that stupid fish should be filleted, fried, and fed to the Big Cat in the white room.

I'm trying to stay with it at least long enough to find out how Angel got out of the Alley. After that I'd be surprised if I continued to exert energy finding these IDW things.

They say Joss signed on to them, but I don't feel any Joss in them. That wasn't true with the TV series.

I don't get much excitement reading the Angel comics. Which sucks cause Angel was my favorite of the two shows. I don't really care what happens anymore.

I completely disagree with all the previous poster. Which is good for me, cause I'm not disappointedly in the least bit, luckily. I love how the suspense is kept in the air. I do want to know how they survived that night in the alley, but more important than when I find it out, is how I find it out. I love how we get to puzzle together who's really working for whom and doing what. And I don't mind that each character has his own sub-storyline. I don't think it detracts from the main-plot; it only deepens it.

Having said that, a lot depends on how they're going to resolve all the storylines they're setting up. In fact, the way they slowly build it up, sort of makes the finale an all-or-nothing moment. So, there's still room for me to get as disappointed by everyone else. But I'm hoping, that the climax is going to pleasantly surprise you lot ;)

I am very pleased with the comic so far. You know what it reminds me of is batman No Mans Land... you know with the whole fighting for land. anyways you have to give the comic time its only been 7 issues, buffy didnt even reveal its big bad till issue 9 i think. anyways the story is pretty easy: angel is trying bring LA out of hell. I am sure one the first night comics are done then everything will tie together nice and neatly.

As for every one getting out of the ally they tell you how.

Angel: teleported out
Spike: Demons randomly disappear
Gunn: Turned into a vamp
Illyria: not sure but i assume it involved he fighting her way out

Dosent Atf compared to the TV show just ridiculous.
I quite like Atf but it does not do justice to the TV series.

I love After the Fall - I love the story, i love the writing - i feel that it is very true to the series. I get more excited about it than i do about the buffy comic. (don't get me wrong, i get excited about Buffy, but more excited about Angel).

They were never going to begin the comic directly after 'not fade away', just as buffy didn't begin straight after 'chosen' - they want to hook you in to the new story first. At least Angel is in the process of filling in those blanks - we still have a hell of a lot of blanks with buffy.

And to be fair, Dark Horse gave up the rights to Angel, IDW simply picked up the ball.

Like Tranquility, I too absolutely love ATF. Even more than Buffy. Even more than all the other comics I read every month. For anyone who wanted to see a big fight in the alley starting on page one of issue one, and who let their lack of patience get the best of them, you need to learn the basics of storytelling.

The story has been very well written. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, I can understand that, but Whedon and Lynch know what they're doing storytelling-wise.

Personally I can't get enough of ATF and I'm just hoping that Whedon and co. have plans for more Angel comics past the ATF series (or at least plans to extend it).
