Giles is a watcher , he has morals, but we all know he has a dark side called Ripper. Giles is quite hasty with he actions like when he killed Ben? Did Ben really deserve to die. He just wanted a life of his own. Giles does act on the greater good but was he justified in taking his life ?

I think he was. Glory was going to cause hell on earth after all, and it was immensely self-sacrificing of him to do it for Buffy. That kind of choice could have completely thrown Buffy, leaving the Hellmouth effectively slayerless. It ended up actually slayerless, but hey, the thought was there. Giles always does what he has to, and I think he showed in the Cruciamentem test that if he doesn't believe in what he is doing he won't follow through.

I think your right Ben did deserve to die and Giles does do whats right most of the time , but when he was geting Robin Wood to kill Spike he was wrong there wasn't he?

I don't remember but did any of the scoobies ask Giles what happened to Ben afterwards?

Not that we know of. But honestly, I think they were too busy dealing with Buffy's death, and like we get to know in s6, getting stiched up at hospitals, to really care about what happened to him.

Ben didnīt deserve to die. But he was a sacrifice Giles was willing to make for the good of the world. He even thought the loss of Dawn would be accaptable if they didnīt found another way.

He was wrong about Spike and Wood, but itīs not to hard to see his point of view.

Edit:

he didn't really seem to care about Dawn dying at the end....
Well, I didnīt say he was a saint, now did I? ;) Not his finest moment, but did he deserve to die for it? Not in my opinion, but youīre welcome to disagree. Itīs not like heīs the only person who made bad choices. Did Willow deserve to die? Did Anya?

Sadly he was. With Ben still alive there would still be a threat.

I can understand why Giles did it, but not condone it. Killing Ben was the only thing that could be done to stop Glory, as I understand it, but to say he deserved to die is a bit harsh.

What happened to Ben wasn't his fault and he deserved to die as much as Dawn or Buffy deserved to die.

I felt for Ben. I wanted him to have his own life, and i wish he could've, but given the danger that posed, i understand why Giles did what he did.

Problem was it took special tools and preparation to defeat Glory first place, something that might not be doable in future. So to let Glory live would been a death sentence for scoobies probably and definetly to many others in world as i doubt she would have stopped eating brains. That is why Giles killing Ben was justified as would been killing Dawn after ritual had started.

Those of you accusing Giles not caring about Dawn -- would you be willing to have world end if you could stop it by killing one person? I would not. Also to specify unless i remember wrong he wanted to kill Dawn should ritual start, not before.

Now concerning the S7 Wood vs Spike, i do think he went too far. He did not think too rationally there and let his emotions influence his decision i believe.

Maybe "justified" is too strong a word? :lmao:

Yes, I believe Giles did *the right* thing. He may not have done the *legal* thing. But I believe it was for the greater good & that does, indeed, "justify" the killing of Ben.

Course, maybe Giles was just being MERCIFUL. After all, who's to say that Ben would have lived after that beating Buffy gave him/Glory? ;)
