Gwen & Kate

It seemed to me like they just disapered we saw kate tell angel she didn't invite him in to her place.
And we saw Gwen helping with the beast.

Then we never saw them again. Where the heck did they go?

I was wondering that myself

Well, we know they stayed in L.A.; they appear in After the Fall!

I haven't read the s6 comics so I don't know anything about them reappearing or something.
Well Kate was no longer cop, so no information source anymore, she's human, and not too friendly with Angel. So I guess they just lost contact. And Gwen, wel, she already just disapeared after one episode (4x02) so I guess she's not too interested with interacting with AI and just stops by whenever she needs help.

Kate was really annoying, I couldn't hold back my joy when she was gone, purely because popping up in every second to be a pain in the ass and be like "La la you're a monster la la!" was driving me to suicide.

I liked Kate on the show and I'm glad she's back in the comics although you do have to wonder where she has been all this time.

I know that the writers wanted to make Gwen a recurring character on the show in season 5 but Alexa Davalos had moved on to movies and wasn't available.

But I hope there is an explaination in the comic as to where these two characters have been.

Her character got stale FAST when she became all 'my father is dead, you are monster, I interrupt your plans' etc etc yawn.

I understand why people don't like Kate, she's like a broken record! lol But I liked that she was annoying, it created some tension with Angel while she was there.

I loved Kates character, i was annoyed that she just disappeared one day never to return.
The episodes focusing on her were some of the best in season one, (sense& sensitivity, Somnambulit and the Prodigal)

Yeah I liked Kate - I thought she was an interesting character and i liked it that she challenged Angel and didn't let him just do whatever he wanted even after she discovered that vampires and other things that go bump in the night exist. She was originally supposed to be a much darker character - an drug addicted cop who occassionally resorted to prostitution to cure her lonliness and fund her addiction. Yeah dark. The network thought too dark and the episode where she was intorduced had to be re-shot. (Corrupt (unaired Angel episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrupt_%28unaired_Angel_episode%29))

As for Gwen i always liked her as a character but not as a person (if that makes sense) - i think she's a natural for the comic books what with the electric powers (although didn't that thing she got Gunn to help her steal 'fix' her?)

Her character would have been better if it weren't for the network. Stupid network.

Gwen was a bad character. She was just one of many unrealistic characters that was introduced late on in the Buffyverse(Dark Willow, The beast, Illyria, Blackthorn...) At least with Kate, and most of the earlier characters(including the vampires) it was more about their personality and story rather than looking like your straight out a comic book with the stupid superpowers to match.
Come to think of it, no wonder Buffy and Angel got cancelled, it was getting silly.

Whereas invisiblity, spontaneous combustion, fish people, Frankenstein's monsters, singing green hosts, homo-erotic spellwork, Giles' German, soul sucking sex, dances of joy, and people coming back from the dead at an alarming rate aren't silly at all.

But, at least they were just one episode enemies designed to be killed. The ones i mentioned before were main/supporting actors, taking up way too much time on screen and they were vastly different to the more realistic 'fake' characters from the earlier seasons. Far too much like x-men characters they were, thats not what the buffy fans paid for:cheering:

Well, I can't speak for Blackthorn, since I've been putting off watching the last few eps of Angel, but Illyria and Dark Willow are definately fan-favourites. Illyria is no more silly than Glory. I never found her powers to be out of place myself. She was one of the deeper, more interesting characters on Angel. Of course, she was only around for a few episodes, but I thought her interactions with Spike and Wesley (especially in The Girl in Question) were very character driven and interesting.

Dark Willow was a great villian and storyline. I loved the whole addiction metaphor, and it all seemed entirely within character. And again, the Beast was no worse a villian than Adam or the Master. He was completely blank character wise because he was never meant to be the main villian. He was merely a harbinger. He was so powerfull because Jasmine was so powerful. It was necessary for the whole apocalypse setting, and just made Jasmine all the more satisfying.

Gwen though.....I do agree on that one. I never liked her introduction. If she had been a one shot character, I could have dealt, but her power did seem a little silly and out of place in the Buffyverse. Power doesn't just come to you in the 'verse. That is very x-men. So, yeah, I agree. But all the others fitted in nicely.

I was annoyed that she [Kate] just disappeared one day never to return.
And the truth of the matter was the actress went from guest-star on Angel to regular star on Law & Order.
The character was written out accordingly to accommodate this.
I don't think she was intended to disappear until the CSI gig, when there was little choice left.

As for Gwen i always liked her as a character but not as a person - i think she's a natural for the comic books what with the electric powers
There was an issue raised about realism.
Vampires, witches, demons and hell-gods! Everyday occurrences I'm sure.
Buffy and Angel are superheroes in an occult setting.
Gwen is an X-man in all but name.
Is it so surprising that Joss went on to write Astonishing X-Men?
And then briefly attached to the Wonder Woman project was also surprising?
Buffy and Angel are really comic book characters brought to live action.
It might actually be more fitting for them in comic form.
Gwen fits in perfectly.

Yeah, gwen and Illyria DID fit in perfectly, and thats the reason for the downfall.
Lets be honest, if you put Gwen or Illyria into Btvs s2 or 3, even Ats s1, they wouldnt have fit in. They would seem silly, but, after Lorne, Glory Saijahn, these out there characters became the norm, and, it just so happens that when these characters became normal, the show began to suffer. Its like putting spiderman into Angel.
Re five by five^^. On these boards, sure the comic fans love Illyria, elsewhere ive noticed she aint so popular.

The episodes focusing on her were some of the best in season one, (sense& sensitivity, Somnambulit and the Prodigal)I loved Kate (third favourite character in the purely-Angel list, after Lindsey and Fred) and "Somnambulist" was an awesome episode, but I haaaaaaaaaaated Sense and Sensitivity and there was a certain amount of dislike for the Prodigal, too.
