Episode title: Lovers Walk
Season: Three
I hope this discussion gets more attention than the previous one! Come on everyone! Let's discuss Lover's Walk!
_______________________
I love this episode. Spike is one of my favorite characters, so it was nice to have him back in this episode. I really like the part when he's talking to Joyce in the kitchen. It's just so cozy!
And this episode hails my all-time favorite phrase: "Love isn't brains".

OK, I don't want the discussion to die again, so I'll say something, at least.
I remember this as a great episode, the one where I really started to enjoy Spike as a character (the scene with Joyce is so nice, agreed).
It's one of only two episodes written by Dan Webber (also "The Zeppo"), and he is a clever writer. The title in the original script is apparently "Lovers Walk" (not Lover's), and I like that one better with its double meaning.
Fantastic ending with Spike singing "My Way" Sid Vicious style!

Fantastic episode all round, I especially love the scene with Willow and Spike. Quite similar to the scene in The Initiative with him in her dorm room.
The episode itself is funny, entertaining, heartbreaking all in one. And the episode has such huge consequences for everyone by the end of it. Definately one of my favourites.

It is. One of the essays I read for my thesis pointed out that the lack of an apostrophe made the title a "short declarative sentence." So one obvious meaning is that lovers are walking. But walking where? And how? And what else do y'all think it could mean?

They're pretty much walking to nowhere. Buffy has just told Angel she needs a break... Cordelia just told Xander to leave her alone after finding him with Willow, and Oz has walked away from Willow after finding him with Xander.
And to keep you all happy, I just fixed the title and took out the apostrophe!

I always enjoy this one.
I think this is the only time we ever see Buffy, Angel and Spike in action together - so for that reason aone it is a real treat. I always find that Buffy and Spike dominate the scene and wonder if it was then that they decided to bring Spike back in as a regular from season four.
I love how Spike brings chaos. He inadvertantly causes all the lovers to break-up and drives off at the singing 'my way' oblivious to the mess he's left behind.

Nice! I wasn't complaining, though, the apostrophe is on my DVD and in the episode guides, so I guess it crept in somewhere on the way.

This episode is one of those that I enjoy in a morbid-my-favorite-characters-are-getting-hurt kinda way. I just love the end montage, the music fits perfectly as a backdrop to them all doing their everyday things sadly because everything's been torn apart. And nicely contrasted against Spike barelling out of town, completely oblivious to the destruction he's left behind.
And I adore Buffy's closing speech to Angel:
"We're not friends, we never were. And I can fool Giles and I can fool my friends but I can't fool myself. Or Spike for some reason. What I want from you I can never have. You don't need me to take care of you anymore, so I'm gonna go. There is [Another way for us to see one another]. Tell me that you don't love me"
And when Angel is just silent because he can't say that? Beautiful. I mean I love both Bangel and Spuffy so I can completely enjoy this heart-wrenching scene.
I do have to say one of my favorite scenes is the Spike-and-Joyce one, for the plain surreality of it. And Angel's complete double-take when he sees it is just perfect! As James Marsters said he goes around to ge in, kill, grab book, get out but instead they end up 'Discussing our love lives over chocolate milk'.

It was one of those inevitable climactic big bangs that the characters had to go through to start making changes for the future.... for realising things about themselves and how they treat others. Huge watershed moment
I love those episodes, as I love this one!

Amazing episode. Standsout in a season jam packed with great episodes. Once again, Spike completely steals the show.

One of my favorite episodes, the best part is when Spike gives his little speech (also shows how smart he is). The music was fantastic, I love it, so sad yet calming.

Yes, I agree about the music. The song at the end fits so perfectly with what's going on, showing them all sad and alone.
This is the episode that no matter how many times I watch it, I always get goose bumps when it moves from showing Cordelia with the bar through her and not being able to see Xander to the cemetary. I always think that it's Cordelia's funeral, and it gives me goose bumps.

i think it is the best mislead that you see a funeral and its totally gaspy and then willow and buffy are walking through the cemetery saying how cordys going to be sorta ok. fantastic!
It's a great epsiode.
Very funny throughout, but still manage to end very sadly.
Think it is the first chance you have to feel really sorry for Cordelia.
The funeral mislead is almost mean though. I remember falling for it big time when I watch it for the first time.
Spikes entry is also great.
One thing though, I have never understand why Spike is at Buffy's home.
Not sure if I missed/forgot something obvious.
I thought he was supposed to go and get supplies to the spell.
But instead it seems that he went to Buffy, I mean, surely he could get those supplies himself.
Even though it turned out to be the right thing to do... but he couldn't know that, or could he?
Maybe he wouldn't want to leave town without another meeting with his favorite slayer :)

^ Willow told Spike she'd left her spellbook at Buffy's house. I think maybe Willow was hoping Spike would run into Buffy and Buffy would kick his ass and come rescue her.

Ah, I knew it was something... thanks!
One of my favorite lines from this episode is
Buffy - She saw these scores and her head spun round and exploded.
Giles - I've been on the Hellmouth too long. That was metaphorical, yes?
Also love how Buffy just guessing that Spike has Xander and Willow locked up at the factory :)

I loved the bit:
Buffy:what about the spell?
Spike: Sod the spell, your friends are in the factory.
Spike on form, as usual

Okay, here's a question. The magic shop that we see both Willow and Spike in, do you think that's the Magic Box? They are somewhat similar, it seems this shop is a tad smaller, but what do you think?
I do like Willow taking control in this episode though. When she's talking to Spike about doing the spell for him, but they'll be 'no having of any kind with me' talk to him. It was nice to see her put Spike in his place.

I like to think that it is the same Magic Shop. It is in the same sort of corner position on the street. It also adds weight to the argument that magic Shop owners have a high mortality rate as Buffy points out when Giles is considering taking over the lease early in season five.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the season.
I love Spike's speech to Buffy and Angel, I love the Joyce/Spike scene. Even though the Willow/Xander kiss makes my heart break for Oz/Cordelia, this ep still ranks on the list of my favorites.
I feel a bit like an odd one out when I say I love Cordelia on Buffy. S1, I hated her (heh, weren't we supposed to?)...but by S3 she'd totally grown on me. She's a deeper character than anyone could have predicted watching S1, she was always great for comic relief/the inner group dynamic, and she clearly cared about Xander a lot. I love the Xander/Cordelia relationship and so this episode always makes me a little sad.

Actually, the original title of this episode was: "Love's Bitch". Well, that's obviously Spike, and what he says to Buffy and Angel in his speech.
It's so good to see The threesome (Buffy Spike Angel). First, it's always nice and funny to see the interaction between Angel and Spike. Also, when the three of them together, you can tell it's gonna cause trouble. Love it!
And have you noticed that Spike always shares his feelings with Willow? -"Lovers Walk" and "Initiative". (Plus Joyce, but that's not the point). Honestly, I think Willow always felt for Spike in some way. She didn't hate him. That's how I view it. what do you think?
Also, I love the fact that before Spike makes trouble in this episode, Spike is the one sad and upset and hurt and all the scoobies are happy, and by the time Spike leaves, he's happy, and the scoobies are hurt, because of Spike.

Yeah, Willow is probably always the most accepting, tolerant and non-prejudices person among the Scoobies.
(Well, unless you happen to be a 1100-year-old ex-vengeance demon making a move on her childhood crush. ;D )

This is one of my most favorite eppys EVER - of course, my favorite quote of all time came from this eppy!
While I loved everything about this eppy, the most fun was the Spike/Willow exchange. When he was being all weepy because Dru left him, & Willow was all "there, there" ... HEH!
"She wouldn't even kill me. She just left. She didn't even care enough to cut off my head or set me on fire. (sniffs) I mean, is that too much to ask? You know? Some little sign that she cared?......
I gave her everything: beautiful jewels, beautiful dresses with beautiful girls in them, but nothing made her happy." I mean, OMG that was hilarious!
And Spike, Angel & Buffy fighting against the other vamps together - that was just sweet. And Spike talking to Joyce about Dru "No, this is different. Our love was eternal. Literally." You can look back & see that Spike DID like Joyce (remember when she died & Spike told Xander & Willow that the flowers were for her because "I liked the lady".)
It was just a very well written episode, and ... Spike getting his balls back & declaring that he would find Drusilla, tie her up & torture her until "she likes me again" TOO FUNNY!
And the ending was SUPERB: "I did it myyyyyyyyy waaaaayyyyyyyyy" LOVED IT!!!

Seeing that funeral scene after Cordy appears to die, made me wonder... Is it possible they were always planning on Cordy to die this way? And that they only kept her alive after they knew Angel would spinoff into his own series and they figured her character would be a good fit to spinoff with him? Maybe I'm completely offbase since I don't know the behind the scenes thoughts about the Angel spinoff... but knowing Joss, Cordy's REAL death here could have been a possibility.
Anyway, great episode. Angel, Buffy, and Spike working together was great fun. Buffy's so cute when she's putting up with Spike. She makes the greatest faces.
Oh, and I like how Cordy refers back to this episode in Angel when Angel asks her, "Do you know how hard it is to think when you a re-bar sticking through your torso?" and Cordy responds, "As a matter of fact, I do... benefits of a Sunnydale education."

Saw it last night!
I just love this episode! Spike is genious, he´s terrible funny, has perfect quotes all over it!!
The speech he does in the magic shop is so touching! What I like about him is how normal he looks like, in this episode he sees things so clearly!
And of course, love the A/B breaking up, her sad face makes me happy
Another thing.. just LOVE Joyce and Spike "relationship"! The way she just sit with him and start talking thing to make him feel better xD And the faces behind her when Angel comes to the house?
Just a perfect episode.

Spike drunk is one of the thins I never get tired of. He is so pathetic and yet you still can put yourself in his place. I have been through the same(not the drinking, more of a chocolate depression) and I relate to him.
But boy, does James make me warm in the episode (Not naughty-kinky warm, but warm in the other good way). He was amazing and I am so glad they brought Spike back. I don't think the series would have been the same without Spike
