So once again Australian Bush Fire Fighters have been called up to go to California to do their bit to try and stop the massive bush fires. Hopefully those that are chosen to go aren't going to find the same fire fighting techniques and equipment as the last time.
I just hope the people in charge of the fire management consider the people fighting the fire are more important than film crews.
Several years ago two planes were sent to one of the big bush fires in NSW/QLD/Victoria, one plane load of fire fighters and one plane load of Fire controllers and recording people, as if NSW/QLD/Victoria didn't have enough film crews anyway. I'm not saying Fire Controllers aren't neccessary, because they are.
So come on American bush-fire fighting bosses, give the Australian fire fighters the equipment they know how to use, if you want the best out of them. Even the basic of equipment, vehicles that the Australians normally use in bush fire control.
Oh and if they ever get any down time, a brewery or two of beer and somewhere to play cricket.
( and if any one thinks I don't have any idea what I'm on about, I was awarded the national medal for services to the fire service as a volunteer bush fire fighter. )
