Does anybody else feel that the comics are creating sort of a schism in the fan community between those who accept them as canon and those who reject them.

That happened long before these latest comics.
Back on the old Buffy run of comics the ones written by ex-Mutant Enemy writers (several comics) and Joss (Fray, Tales and Long Night's Journey) caused the same thing. It's nothing new.

It has been taken to an extreme in wailing of "Out of Character!" complaints lately is the main difference.
But then I feel that these are the same people who think Buffy should mirror 10+ years of the Simpsons.
Has anyone changed or even aged at all on that show?

there may be a schism, which might be easier to observe if you are someone who reads the comics, but it is nothing that i personally notice. basically, what i am saying is that as someone who has yet to read any of the comics, and thus technically cannot accept them as canon right now, i dont feel in any way seperated from those who read the comics. i mean, maybe there is the difference of 'well, i support this ship/opinion/idea, because ive seen it develop further in the comics' or 'i dont support this ship/opinion/idea anymore because of this thing which happened in the comics', but its nothing i greatly notice. unless someone is specifically discussing something about the comics, i cant tell the difference between one who's read them and one who hasnt. thats my input, anyway.

i suppose there would be slightly more of a difference between those who accept them and dont, but it seems to me that it would be the same difference of opinion that anyone would have on any topic. for example, some people are sure that buffy and spike were in love, while others feel that buffy never loved spike in the way he loved her. this was based on the same show that they both watched. im probably not the best opinion on this part, never having read the comics, but i cant imagine a 'canon vs. non canon' dispute being any different than a dispute such as that one. canon-person would insist 'well this comic says so, and since it is canon, thats what happened and is true' and the other would say 'well, its not canon, so it doesnt even count'. to summarize, im saying that people argue over things in the buffyverse all the time, especially on BB, and i cant see comics, and their questionable canon, changing that, other than them changing what the arguments are about. and, once again, i couldnt even tell the difference between one who considers the comics canon or doesnt, anyway, unless he makes a specific comment or reference to indicate it.
