To the Powers That Be (AKA, the Mods, especially Spiked Buffy. I find a little flattery always helps.)

As you may or may not know, the SHPS is now a regular event that has been set up by Fake Shemp, HorrorShock666 and myself with the aim of allowing Buffy Board members to watch Buffy episodes and films in sync with one another. We are now requesting Group status on the Boards, in order to ensure that we do not break any rules and can include as many members as possible.

Firstly, I would like to point out that there is no exclusivity whatsoever practiced in this group. Anyone can join in. Because of this, we seem to already slip through the classification of "groups, board families and cliques" mentioned in the rules. However, we do want to be able to keep buttons and the likes in our sigs, and moreover, we would like to be integrated with the boards as much as is possible.

We are intending to operate the syncs through instant messaging, so there will be no (further :silly:) strain on the bandwidth.

I now speak for the SHPS, and will be co-ordinating our presence on the boards, so if you have any questions about our application (or even better, suggestions about how the group should work with the boards), I would appreciate it if you could either post here, or PM me.

Thank you for your time, and I hope that we can work with you all to make this happen.

Five by Five.

Thanks for that 5x5 :). I'm conscious that you posted this a few hours ago, so I'm just letting you know that your request is under serious consideration by the mods and we will get back to you as soon as possible with some options.

So, the staff has put a great deal of thought and discussion into this, but I thought I'd post something here on the state of the issue as I see it.

Group watching of Buffy (and other Whedon-y) episodes is definitely something that can be worked out through the board. If done through the board, I have no problem having such events scheduled on the boards via threads, posted about on the calendar, mentioned in the board newsletter, and hosted on a BB chat. Other non-Buffy events if held on your own we could work something out to let other members know about these too.

If this is an off-board activity on your own site, we would not be using board resources to promote/advertise, other than a possible link exchange if requested. Signature links/buttons would be treated as any other exterior site link/buttons and would have to conform to board rules on the subject. Any spam pming would be treated as such.

:)

We are doing it offsite, but not on another site. It's all done through instant messaging, so we aren't drawing anybody away from the BB (except maybe for the hour or so when we watch the episode! :silly:). The only other site we have is on Facebook - which is within the rules as far as I am aware so long as we aren't intrusive about it - and a blog that is used for the posting of updates so people know what we are going to watch next and when. That may not be necessary, however, if we were allowed to do this through the boards, if it is a problem.

I apologise for not making that as clear as I could have in the OP. Thanks again for your time and consideration.

lol to the hour or so... even when wev been on msn mozya alerted us to a newbie to the BB and we all came back on here to welcome them.... i got rid of the myspace and the face book is only for announcements in case anyone checks there more often or has email alerts to the group or anything. if it could be announced on the calendar on here id shut the group down on facebook as well. (initially put up to see who was interested)
