Giles' House

I started watching Season 4 last night (episodes 1&2), and I was wondering, does Giles live in the same house as seasons 1-3?

It kind of looks like the same house but now it seems way bigger, and brighter!

In the previous seasons, his house looked small to me and now it's huge, with a backyard and everything! Is it just because it's brighter and not shown at night?

As far as I can remember, Giles lived in the same apartment until the end of Season 5, when apparently he, Willow, and Tara moved in with Dawn. After that, he stayed there whenever he was in Sunnydale.

Isn't that the same house they shot "Melrose Place" in? Didn't somebody mention that at one point?

It was bigger. It was the same house, yes, but when the gang hung out there more often in season 4, it got a bit of a makeover. Specifically, it got a hallway back behind the kitchen and some more floor space across the living room. It also became less cluttered (explained when Willow asked why they were cataloging all of Giles' things) and, yes, brighter (probably due to more daylight scenes).

There was never a backyard, though, at least not that I saw.

He did have that cute little courtyard thing though, or was that supposed to be a frontyard? I'm thinking specifically of Buffy vs. Dracula, the courtyard looks so beautiful in that episode. I think Giles's house is the best house in the world. I would love to live somewhere like that. Maybe I should offer Giles some money for it?

Yeah, in seasons 1-2 he just had this very closed front involving stairs I believe but then by the time of Band Candy Giles had a shiny and new courtyard that I think we were all supposed to pretend had always been there. Haha.

I do think the make-over was for practicality reasons though. In season 4 Giles' apartment became the new Scooby Central (albeit without Giles' consent haha) but the original set wouldn't have been practical for all of them to fit in so they kept the original design but...erm, "embiggened" it, haha. ;)

I would rather have Tony Head's estate than Giles; the scenes shot there in season seven looked nice.

Seriously? I thought only Willow and Tara had moved in.
Where would he have lived? Buffy's room was still occupied by the Buffybot, Willow and Tara lived in Joyce's former room and Dawn had kept her own. I really never thought Giles had come lived there... Did he really? (I'm not questioning your judgement, I just want to know more ^^)

It was a courtyard, not backyard. I had an apt. in college a few years ago very similar to that one with a courtyard. Also stuffed full of dusty books. *ha-choo!*

Same house, but it was used more as the gang's meeting place after the high school library was destroyed.

I love Anthony's actual house in England, and his backyard shot in the beginning of season 7. All the lush grassy hills and beautiful view.. wish I lived there =P

Yes it was an apartment 'complex' with a central, shared courtyard, not a house with a backyard. And I don't think he ever lived at Buffy's house..he did stay there for a few nights and she put him up on the couch.

Didn't the staircase move to a completely different part of the house from season 2 to season 4? In season 2 it was almost directly there when they walked in the house and in season 4 it was next to the door. Did anyone else notice that? Or I'm possibly remembering wrong...But I'm sure it was...
