Angelus and Drusilla

Ok kids here we go my first thread......

I posted this on facebook a little while back and got a couple of replies, but I figured id post it here coz Im bound to get a more indepth conversation, and more varied opinions. Hope it hasn't already been discussed.

I was participating in a poll for the usual who should buffy be with thing, and after voting for spike, I started to read people's posts. Ofcourse angle supporters brought up the extreamly valid point of what happened in seeing red, and one girl argued that angel suceeded in raping drusilla. When I asked her what she was talking about, she said she was refering to Destiny. To me that did not look like rape at all, dru seemed fully into it. I was really suprised by this statement, but it got me wondering if other people saw it that way.

Yep Its not the fact that he would do this that surprises me, everytime I think of this topic Im instantly reminded of that episode in season 4 (not sure which one) when he says to fred that he could use his irish accent on her when he rapes her to death.....Its just in this instance. Im a big spuffy supporter (although I love angle and have respect for bangel love) and love to argue for them, this to me seems a little thin.

Would I be surprised if Angelus raped Dru at some point during the kill-all-of-her-family, stalk her, drive-her-crazy, have-sex-with-Darla-whilst-on-top of-a-terrified-Dru phase? No. Absolutely not. Was that ever made explicit in the text? No. It was very strongly implied many times that both Angelus and Spike were rapists as well as murderers and generally bad, evil, scary dudes; however, it was never made explicit that either of them ever succeeded in raping one of the characters with whom we are acquainted. The closest we ever got to seeing that was Seeing Red and, frankly, that was close enough for me.

That said, Angelus did a lot of despicable things to Dru. Their relationship is complex (to say the least). The incestuous undertones to their relationship actually correspond nicely to those of Dru's namesake and to her authority figure, big brother Caligula. Perhaps it is this incestuous streak to which the poster who called Angelus/Dru rape referred. It's not uncommon for cases of father/daughter incest to be regarded as rape due to the inherent power imbalance of that relationship. Add Dru's childlike understanding of the world and Angelus' less-than-loving reasons for having sex with her during the night referenced in Destiny (he wanted to teach Spike and Dru a lesson -- that they were not meant for another, not while he ruled the roost, anyway), and it's not hard to see where at least the suspicion of rape comes in. Whether he ever raped Dru or not, he did worse: including killing her family, driving her in sane, killing her, and turning her into a vampire against her will. Angelus and Dru had a relationship that was definitely very very wrong and very one-sided and, through it, Angelus once asserted that Dru knew him better than anyone. Drusilla was often represented as the product of Angelus' most concentrated depravity. With all of that as background, I don't think it's a huge leap to assume that Angelus raped Dru at some point in their long and tortured relationship.

It's definitely possible this happened after Angelus and Darla had their little 'snake in the woodshed' session. When Dru became human however she seemed to pick up Darla's masochistic tendencies, after that it was implied that Angelus witheld his particular brand of affection.

no she totally wanted him to do it. theres no way it was rape and even if....ok lets say she didnt want to do you actally think spike wouldnt try to stop him. and i know he was in a wheel chair and all but love makes you strong he would have killed angel for it.
