Who is Buffy's True Love

In the preview of the next episode Buffy will kiss Angel and in tonights episode she found confort in Spikes arms.
It's not fair.....not annymore.
Spike told her he loved her....trully, and not for sex but for who she was.......and hell that speach brought me to tears.
So now Angel boy shows up (after a few years) and helloo there kissing.......NO this is wrong. IN A MILLION WAYS!!!!!
Spike has been there for her for years and Angel left her because of his own selfish reasons. Besides he has his own issues (Love ones) to deal with in his own show.
I think its not fair. I think Spike desearves her. MORE THEN ANGEL EVER WILL!!!!!!!!!
Dont get me wrong I LOVE Angel but in his own show, I feel that when he is in buffy or Buffy is in his show, there is always love involed and unwanted love at that. Im sorry for the ones who think Angel and Buffy belong together but I feel that he no longer desearves her.....not at all annymore. I am a buffy love angel fan but only in seasons 5 and under because I think now in my heart that Spike is the one who should have the last smile and the last kiss with the woman he belongs with.

I think that's a little unfair, Angel and Buffy more than belong together, they were made for eachother and he knew it the moment Whistler came to him and showed him who the slayer (Buffy) is. They have moved on in one way and then in so many others they haven't. Both of them have said how each of them are the loves of eachothers life. Spike may love Buffy and Buffy may love Spike, just not the way she loves Angel. Just like Angel may love Cordelia (I really don't know what he sees in her, she is so annoying), just not the way he loves Buffy. Angel left Buffy, because he had to, not because he wanted to. It had been a pretty rough ride for the both of them, especially considering that he tried to kill her and everyone she loves and she actually sent him to hell. I think it's great that there is talk of Buffy and Angel being together in the future in the final episode of Buffy - everyone wants to see that happen and now there is that glimmer of hope. I guess at the end of the day, no matter what happens, Buffy and Angel belong together and they always have!!

he left the only person that ever made him happy as a man or demond
so that buffy would be able to have some sence of a normal life he walked away so she could find some one to love that would be able to be with her in a normal way
only true and pure love is strong enouf to give that

there are no moments in love that a person can compare the way that 2 different people respond to love nothing makes one greater then the other it only makes it different

Buffy and Angel are soul mates. They belong together. Spike may be consoling her and loving her but it is not the same as being her soul mate.

I just hope that they will end the series with some glimmer of hope that they will rekindle their relationship in the future.

Actually, Angel didn't really leave for his own selfish reasons. He left to allow Buffy a chance at a normal life.

Angel left for a mixture of many different reasons. Joyce pretty much told him that he was being selfish for keeping Buffy with him and potentially ruining her life. So, he left. Because he couldn't handle being with her. Yes, commends for leaving so she can try and be happy, but if you really love her, then stay with her and love her.

And you can bring up the whole 'rape' situation until the cows come home. Angel did try to kill her and all of her friends and ultimately forced her to make one of the greatest decision ever... to kill him and send him to Hell. And then he came back and then left her for good! The way she was crying with Willow in "The Prom" was so heart-wrenching... it hits your gut. And then, him leaving without saying good-bye and never wanting to see her again is horrible as well.

So, both parties have commited horrible atrocities on her, and yet, both parties are convinced that they are madly in love with her. (Even though Angel has moved on to Cordelia... he's said it... in Angel, I don't remember what episode... something about the woman he LOVES)

So, there you go... I believe that Buffy and Spike do truly love each other but no romance is able to survive in the Buffyverse. But, if it were, definitely Buffy and Spike

I guess everyone has their views and feelings, but the bottom line is Buffy may be in love with Spike and Angel may be in love with Cordelia (who knows why?? She really needs to leave that show), but they are not their soul mates. The only soul mates in Buffy/Angel are Buffy and Angel, no matter what happens while they are apart, they both know that deep down they are meant to be together and they can move on, or at least that's what they are trying to do - then when they see eachother, they can't help themselves, they kiss. Now we have to realise they kiss even though they supposedly feel for Spike and Cordelia - if they truly did that is something that wouldn't happen. When you can't be with the person you want to, you try to move on but given the chance you would go back to that person in a heartbeat (pardon the pun, I know that Angel doesn't have a heartbeat). Absence makes the hear grow fonder and they have always loved eachother, even after everything they have been through together and their love will just continue to grow.

Personally, I love Buffy and Spike together. I used to be a total B/A shipper, but they arent in each others lives anymore. And what Spike said in "Touched" is so true...hes seen the best and the worst of her and he still loves her. So...B/S all the way for me!!!

I think the WAY Angel left was really selfish. I mean he knew all Buffy wanted was her prom, one night to act like a normal teenager. Why couldn't he have just waited till AFTER the prom to break up with her? I mean he could have given her that one normal night. I know he ended up showing up at the prom, but not till the very end and it was tainted because he had already broken up with her by then and the first thing he said when he walked in was "This doesn't mean anything" so it had to be really akward and sad and painful and stuff. I mean why couldn't he have just waited to break up and let her be happy and normal for ONE night?

See now if it had been Spike, he would have given her that one night. Spike would do ANYTHING for Buffy, if it would make her happy he'd do it. Unlike Angel. And I agree with the other person who said, you can talk about the rape thing until the cows come home but the fact is that Angel tried to kill Buffy and all her freinds so he's no better. The way Spike treated Buffy when he didn't have a soul was FAR superior to the way Angel treated Buffy when he didn't have a soul. Even without a soul, Spike was able to love Buffy and go through torture to protect her sister and risk his life to help her. Whereas without a soul all Angel does is make Buffy's life miserable and kill people she cares about. Spike is special because he's able to be Buffy's soul mate even when he doesn't have a soul! Spike has waited so long and done so much to be with Buffy and he DOES deserve her.

Well when it comes to Buffy and Spike, we cannot forget that there is no way he would have let Buffy live before he fell in love with her, after he got chipped by Riley and the gang he still wanted to kill Buffy but he couldn't. When Buffy came back from the dead, that was when he could kill her but he had already fallen in love with her, so that wasn't going to happen - so basically before he got chipped, he would have killed her in a second, without a second hesitation. Spike fell in love with Buffy over time, whereas Angel loved her as soon as he saw her - when he was looking through her window, that was the moment and you could see it on his face. It was more than love at first sight, it was a knowing, knowing that she was the one. Angel will become human when they decide to stop making the show and then him and Buffy can be together, Buffy is who he would choose and Buffy would choose him. I think it's obvious that is what they will do, as the Powers that Be in the first season said, he is saving all these souls to get his back and one day he will be human again - that will be his reward and to make that reward greater, he can finally be with the woman he loves BUFFY!!

He may have been obsessed w/ her, like the way he was after he lost his soul, but as Angelus he never would have fallen for her. Like the Judge said, Angelus had no humanity in him, and said Spike did. Spike w/ out a soul could still love Buffy. And Angels leaving "for" Buffy was partially selfish. But he wanted her to get used to the idea before he left. I don't think he understood the significance of the prom. I personally think Buffy screwed in the head when it comes to love. She loved Angel... he left and whenever she see's him all she wants to do is jump on him aor kiss him.

Riley was just the rebound guy who did love her but was annoying and wanted to be in the spotlight more then he should have been.
And then with Spike the love was staring at her in the face but she ignored it all the time..... hiding her feelings too. Spike went and got his soul back for her... for her to see him as something more than a demon.. a man. I do beleive that she does love Spike but kissed Angel because she wants to mask her feelings or she's one of them looneys that can't get over the first guy they laid.....

Ohh well all i can say is i still believe in Spuffy and it will live as will Bangle...... I believe Buffy will tell the vamp she truly loves "i love you" in the last ever episode... in a tear jerker moment before she possibly dies......

Well then, on the flip side...

Buffy is beginning to understand how much Spike does care for her... she is beginning to think that what they have is more than just the original lust. She is falling in love with him.

So, she is gaining deeper love for Spike. She may also love Angel, but she will now always love Spike as well.

Either way... she loves them both. I don't care about the whole 'they are soulmates' thing (because soulmates, to me, means the love that two PEOPLE find... with marriage and all)
No matter what, they will probably always have a connection, always be friends... but when that kind of relationship comes to a standstill... it's time to move on. And they have. Angel moved onto Cordy and Buffy moved onto Riley and now Spike.

I don't think that's a valid question because I personally don't believe in a person having one "true" love. Buffy loves both Spike and Angel, in different ways and for different reasons. Angel was her first love: they will always have that special relationship, they will always love each other. However, their active relationship is in the past and they have both shown that they truly do love other people. Spike has genuine love for Buffy, and she does love him also, though probably not as much as he loves her. She does however love him and appreciate him for who he is and everything he's done for her.

Oh please. Buffy didn't let Angel do it simply because..if they lost the battle in Sunnydale..the rest of the world might have a chance. She gave it to Spike because he is the best...he's the champion. Much much stronger than that loser you call Angel. And Buffy knows that. She loves Spike..and he's the champion now. First, sometimes leaving is the best thing. Angel realised this and left in order to give Buffy the chance at something resembling a normal life. Spike didn't because he's a selfish possessive twit (remember when he screwed over Angel and Dru in season two because he didn't like them making nice?). Spike is a stalker-type, plain and simple. If he actually had any sense of decency he would have left when he realised how much pain he was causing Buffy. That's the thing, neither Angel nor Spike are right for Buffy. The fact that they are vampires means that they can't be right for any mortal woman (that's kind of the 'tragic' part of the thing). Even years down the line when Buffy becomes "cookie-Buffy", she would be stupid to persue a relationship with either one of them. If she were smart she'd find a nice mortal boy capable of getting a tan.

Second, Buffy doesn't love Spike. She cares for him, but doesn't love him. This is where the tragedy part comes into play again. When Buffy told Spike she loved him he knew she was lying (keep in mind that Spike is the guy who has ALWAYS been able to tell when Buffy was being less than honest with him, herself and those around her). That was the point of the scene. It was Spike's chance to be hero. He felt his soul for the first time, and for the first time in his entire existance he did the right thing for the right reason. He didn't play the hero because Buffy loved him, he did so to save the world. Every other action in the boy's entire life has been tainted by self-interest and selfishness. He even got his soul for selfish reasons. He didn't do it because he thought he was 'wrong', he did it because he didn't want to lose Buffy because he liked being with her. If butchering a hundred innocent children would have gotten him Buffy back he'd have done it. He didn't see himself or what he did as 'wrong' (not even when he attempted to rape Buffy) he just knew that without a soul he couldn't have the object of his obssession. Hence he did what he thought he had to. If he'd been able to keep Buffy and spend his spare time slaughtering people he'd have been happier than a pig rutting in it's own filth. The fact is, Spike was never a good guy. He was always looking out for Spike first (and that just happened to mean doing the occational nice thing for Buffy becaue he liked being with her, you'll notice it never phased him that before their relationship when he claimed to love her, but she couldn't stand the site of him, that he never left for her sake, because that would have been showing a little regard for the thoughts and feelings of another that didn't directly lead to something good for him). To suggest that Buffy was truthful when she said she loved Spike just cheapens the whole scene and the Spike character as well. The fact is, he finally realised that she really didn't love him. He could have left and tried to make her love him or just done the selfish thing and tried to save his own hide, but he didn't. He accepted that she didn't love him. He died for the world not to protect his 'true love'. He finally did something that benefited somone other than himself. It was an act of redemption. To say that Buffy did actually love him would suggest that he would probably be doing it for her (which still benefits him in some form since he loves her) which would just make this yet another act of self-interest on Spike's part. He didn't die a hero in that scenario, he died an obsessed lover.

Third, Spike is not stronger than Angel. The two have fought on several occations and Angel hands the guy his butt everytime. Sorry, but Spike just isn't that tough. He may be cooler but he isn't anywhere near as strong or as tough as Angel. Did he become a champion? In my scenario where he dies for the world, yes. Lastly, lets keep in mind as far as who is a better person and who is Buffy's 'best' or 'truest' love that Spike and Buffy's relationship wasn't exactly peachy. He was stalking her. The relationship was abusive and boardered (and then went beyond) being sadomasocistic. He even tried to rape her. This was the same guy she was in the relationship with. Angel at least had the excuse of losing his soul when he hurt her, the Spike she had a relationship with has no excuse. If you want to argue that he is a different man now that he has a sou,l and that what he did before doesn't apply, and that Buffy can love him now, then fine. But that also means that Buffy and this 'new' Spike essentially just met recently and hence they barely know each other. If the evil parts of his past no longer apply then neither do the good parts.

P.S. - Personally I think both relationships sucked the big one. I'm hoping Buffy ends up with neither (in either comics or movies or whatever will no doubt eventually be used to tie things up). The girl has been through a lot and deserves a fairly normal life (with all the new Slayers that's finally possible) and neither Angel nor Spike will ever be able to give that to her. I hope she meets a nice normal guy, they settle down, get married, buy a house, put up a white picket fence, and have 2.5 children.... she's earned it.

Everything Happy says makes perfect sense, especially about Spike. Buffy never loved Spike, she appreciated him and a lot of the time relied on him, particularly when she came back from the dead - but that was only because she felt he understood how she felt and she needed someone to talk to. When she did tell him she loved him, that was to make him feel better, because she knew he was going to die. Spike was a lot of things, but he wasn't stupid, he knew she didn't mean it.

She certainly cares about Angel but I don't quite think it qualifies as true love. Buffy at this stage in the game isn't in the habit of putting a man first before all other things, and Angel isn't in a situation where he'll be able to either. That's not a great recipe for love. Well, first off, how can Bangel be just a first love? When people say that, it always boggles my mind. Because if you look back, it was written as something much more then just a first love. It lasted through death, and they were willing to die for each other. Not just a first love. :)

Angel is her true love. I believe that Spike loves Buffy, but I don't believe that the feeling was mutual. As it was shown in 'Chosen.'
She said she loved him, and what I saw was a look of realization on his face, because he finally realized that she didn't love him. And when he said 'No you don't' don't you think she would have said 'No, you're wrong. I really do love you.' or something like that, to prove that she did? And let Spike die with a happy heart? Plus, she didn't even shed a tear over him. As I recall, with Angel she cried plenty when he died, and even when he was brought back she cried out of happiness. She cried in Amends when he was going to kill himself, she cried in IWRY, etc. But, she couldn't even shed one little tear over Spike? Thats why I don't think she was ever really in love with him. He was just there to help her grow, in my opinion. As she said to Angel, she needed to finish baking. Thats what Spike was for. JM even said so himself that he was there to help Buffy grow. And now that she has grown, I'm patiently waiting for Buffy guest spots on Angel next season. I expect Bangel-ness. ;)

(Btw, though I haven't been a Spike fan for 2 Season's now, I got sad when he died. He died a Hero though, so yay for him. But, he died a broken hearted Hero. Can't help that though... he should've stuck with Dru)

I agree with Vinky. Angel is Buffy's one true love. I think Buffy just used Spike and to make up for all the hurt she caused him and coz of the sacrifice he made at the end of Chosen she told him she loved him. But Spike knew that Buffy didn't love him coz he told her.

I agree that she loves them both. You can love more than one person in your life. You know how many times I thought "this is the one" when I was with a guy? Angel was her first and Spike was further down the road. Yes they started out wrong but it became more than what it was at first. I think a lot of people are so stuck on the way things were in season six. It's just not like that anymore. Not to mention I think a lot of people need to take a deeper look at what was going on anyway. I seriously believe that in the end if she has to pick one of them that the writers will make it Angel but that won't change my mind (because personally I'd rather see her with Spike). I wouldn't take the actors' word on this subject. James Marsters has barely been correct about some aspects of Spike. Both David Boreneaz and Sarah Michelle Geller have flipped-flopped on this subject. Now that ANGEL is the last show on the air and SMG might guest star, both are now stating that Angel is Buffy's true love. But both have stated the opposite in the past.

But if Angel turns out to be her true love, then that only tells me that Buffy never really learned to grow up.

I stumbled on something very interesting the other day.

Watching the featurettes on season 3 DVD, they talked about season three being most definetly the end of Buffy and Angel. They were setting it up so that they became more mature about the situation they were in and dealing with the fact that they can't give into their fantasies and eventually, just had to live without each other.

So, a True Love ought to be somebody that you know you can be with forever and never have those kinds of situations. And it's obvious that is not Angel, because of that, his leaving, their seperate dating, and discussions about why they cannot be together. And while this may not be Spike as well, I hope to see it in the future.

But if their relationship turns out the same way as her and Angel's then the same rules apply.

Spike's love for Buffy was so real. He just knew it, even if he didnt have a logical explanation. And Buffy's love for Spike was one that I feel developed over time, getting to him (with the help of some <i>major</i> chemistry). But no matter how it happened, it's obvious that they love each other, and it's SO not fair that Buffy kissed Angel...and it must have ate Spike up that he had to watch them. Spike loves Buffy SO MUCH, and when he felt she was starting to understand that...god, how frustrating Buffy must be to Spike. He loves her with a passion so great, he would die for her (heh heh), and Buffy (IMO) loves Spike. But she has a history with Angel, and shes always gonna love him. He was her 1st love. Dont get me wrong I LOVE Angel but in his own show, I feel that when he is in buffy or Buffy is in his show, there is always love involed and unwanted love at that. Im sorry for the ones who think Angel and Buffy belong together but I feel that he no longer desearves her.....not at all annymore. I am a buffy love angel fan but only in seasons 5 and under because I think now in my heart that Spike is the one who should have the last smile and the last kiss with the woman he belongs with.

Well I agree, as much as I loved B/A it is time we move on huh? They can't ever be happy together. Spike really loved her. I think he really did... I say this not because of their (Spike and Angel) speechs. To me they are just words.

Angel left for a mixture of many different reasons. Joyce pretty much told him that he was being selfish for keeping Buffy with him and potentially ruining her life. So, he left. Because he couldn't handle being with her. Yes, commends for leaving so she can try and be happy, but if you really love her, then stay with her and love her.

And you can bring up the whole 'rape' situation until the cows come home. Angel did try to kill her and all of her friends and ultimately forced her to make one of the greatest decision ever... to kill him and send him to Hell. And then, him leaving without saying good-bye and never wanting to see her again is horrible as well.

So, there you go... I believe that Buffy and Spike do truly love each other but no romance is able to survive in the Buffyverse. But, if it were, definitely Buffy and Spike
You took the words right from my mouth. They both did horrible thing to her...yet they still think they love her the most and that she will forgive what they did to her. I do love B/A but it is time for a change. I'm not saying that I give up on B/A..no I still think there's hope, but since we've seen the last of Buffy...

She loved Angel, there is no doubt about that.
But think about how Angel hurt her in "The Prom". Indeed he danced with her, but he told her he didn't want his life to be with her. HE told her that. Yeah, forever may be the whole point but it is forever in pain. He hurt and her she killed him.

Angel moved on...so did Buffy.

Spike has hurt her, yes many times. She removed his chip. He got a soul. The only thing keeping Angel away from his true nature was his soul. It was a burden to him...he says so in the first season. Spike wanted his soul. He did want the sex and he was willing to rape her to get it. But later he said he loved her as a person... not for the sex. He said he wanted to be close to her...just to hold her.

I guess the reason why, is because I can relate to both characters the most. So pretty much, I am Buffy (personality wise) and I have a boyfriend thats as sweet as Angel. Who is also a B/A shipper like me. Their love is what I believe in, its the one that lasts in the end. And the kind that Buffy had with Spike, as Buffy said, "Love like that doesn't last." Thing is, I never for ONE minute ever believed Buffy was in love with Spike either, like SMG and JM. I believe she grew to love and respect him as a friend, but when it comes down to who she was IN love with, it was definitely Angel. Chosen said it all for me. Spike knows Buffy, and she can't fool Spike as that was said in Lover's Walk. Thats why he KNEW she never loved him the way he wanted to be loved in Chosen. They had closure when Spike said, "No you don't. But thanks for saying it anyway," while B/A had talks of the future and shared a beautiful tender kiss. Angel was the first, and last person Buffy ever kissed. That meant so much to me, a big thank you to Joss!

And when cookie dough Buffy is done baking, it will be Angel enjoying warm, delicious cookie Buffy.

(That little cookie analogy was so cute :p )
