*lil' willow*::noangel:
I also notice he got fat..Good I'm not the only one..
I was never sure if he got fat or musclar. Like on Charmed, we are trying to figure out if Leo is fat or musclar. I don't know. He didn't really look fat after he had sex with Anya in that one episode in season 7.

I would not call him fat, because well to me he doesnt really fit the fat status. But more like Season6 he became a bit more big and rounded but was still somewhat muscular. He just did what basically every male actor on a tv show does, gain some weight, it happened to Chandler on friends, and David Boreanaz.

he has kind of a belly (you can see his belly in first date) and he's a little bigger, but he is in NO WAY FAT.

But David lost it all for season 5.
i think that compared to his like in season 1 or two he was fat but i just think he was a little bigger cause he grew up and i met him in march 2003 and he was pretty skinny so i think its the camera

I think he looked noticibly bigger in S6, but he's muscular, so I don't think he's fat.

I tyhink he just gained a lot of weight. Not fat necessarily, but heavier.

I think he became a "dad man"! He didn't necessarily get fat, but he did take on the form and stature of a more mature thicker man...a "dad man"! I like dad men! I thought he was cute then and I still think he's cute now.

I wouldn't call him fat, just chubbeir. Everyone gains and loses extra weight, but he has noting a little exercise couldn't solve.

I wouldn't call him fat. Plus we can't forget that Nich was older than his character when the show started so he has had to work extra hard to maintain the "17" year old throughout the years.

Xander was definately the cutest in his early days. By about s5/6 he had become a bit tubby, like Angel.
My Angel-hating mate always sings the 'who ate all the pies' song when i mention him!
I don't think he's fat. I just read an interview he did for "Celest In The City" and he talks about having to wear really tight clothes. I don't think a person with a weight problem would wear really tight clothes, but that's just me, lol.

He has gained weight but he has also grown up. Hes 30ish (the actual age slips my mind) so hes bound not to look like the 17 year old skinny Xander. Plus the other guys on the show are Spike, and James has skinny spouts, and Giles who we barely see unclothed.
Nick is 33, if I'm not mistaken. So, yeah, you're right Ash. It would be hard for a 33 year old to try to keep the form of a 17-year-old. But, he's not fat.

He's not fat at all. I still think he's sexy, and cute and all. He was more before though, but still. I think he was most sexy in s1. But that might just be me! lol

Maybe hes recent admitted alcholism has something to do with it? He seems to be getting better from what I hear (with the booze) so he could loose some weight. If not we can still swoon over earlier pictures.
I wouldn't mind looking him him when im 33 I can tell you that.

Nick put on weight because of his drinking problem.

And in the 14th issue of the Buffy magazine, the magazine said that Nick now looks thinner and more fit, I think due to his recovery from the alcoholism.
I think this puts all the questions to rest.

I wouldn't call nick and david fat, but yes in s5,6,7 the both get bigger and less handsome, they get a bit swollen and fluffy, maybe strange words to describe them with, but nick looks fluffy in some way like a teddybear?, he's far from what a would call fat.
Xander is really good looking in s2, yum! :wigglinge

I wouldn't say he was fat but after series 1 (yes that early) he gradually puts on weight, i thought he was fit in series 1 and couldnt understand why buffy didnt like him but then he went less good looking and kind of clingy and possessive which was kind of annoying but he did more than make up for that with his humour

Finally, I'm not the only one who noticed this! I noticed this too, wanna know why? I thought Xander was really hot in seasons 1-3.
Then I noticed that he got a bit bigger...mainly in his cheeks, I could see it in his face and it was rather awkward.
I wouldn't classify him fat but he definitely wasn't as hot as he was.

I didn't think Nicholas Brendon got fat, but he definitely built up bulk in the upper torso-chest and shoulders-in the later seasons. I thought it was part of his process of maturing. It was exaggerated, I suppose, by seeing him standing with the diminuitive likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, and Emma Caulfield. Still I can't say exactly-looking back at the final scene in "Chosen" where they're looking into the crater, he does seem to fill out a lot of his shirt.
More recently I saw him in the short-lived series Kitchen Confidential on FOX. He didn't strike me as looking heavy in that.

he got a bit bigger but he was getting older, how could be keep that physique the whole time, its prob just coz he used 2 be really fit. I mean look at tara, she was never skiny but not fat, but no1 sed anything coz she'd always been that way.

I noticed he got thicker as well. I figured it was due to him drinking too much alcohol. Beer especially will put the weight on you.

There is a simple answer to this question. The role of Xander Harris required the actor Nicholas Brendon to, as the seasons progressed, modify his physique to give the impression that Xander, like most men, especially those in the construction field, to fall victim of a common disease called "premature middle age spread," or as those of us who suffer from it call "done lapped disease," where your belly done lapped over the waistband of your pants. Many men suffer from this mysterious syndrome, but the best explanation for its onset came from the late actor Marlon Brando, when he said, "If you had a cadillac, wouldn't you park it under a shed?"

I am sorry but I don't think his weight gain had anything to do with him being in construction or being a carptenter. Most carpenter's and construction men are very physically fit. I have dated several. They work in the sun and sweat all day, so I don't think that is it at all. I don't think it was scripted weight gain. I think Nicholas either was abusing too much alcohol or either quit caring about working out. Trust me it is easy to do. I have to fight myself everday to walk. The rewards are great, but it gets old.

Okay, seriously? What is with these topics?
Actors get fat sometimes. It's part of being people. Stuff happens, they eat too many Krispy Kremes, whatever. David Boreanaz [aka Angel, for those who don't bother to pay attention to the difference] gained weight, so freakin' what? What matters to me is their acting ability, and if Nick Brendon is still acting like Xander and if David Boreanaz is still acting like Angel [in terms of the shows, of course] then I don't care how fat they get.
This just seems really pointless to me.

Dude... it happens. And I can't tell ya why.
It's happening to me. I weighed myself the other day. I weigh in at a grand total of 102 pounds. With shoes on. And wet hair. lol. But I'm getting older... and somehow those 102 pounds are distributed differently from my 98 pounds in college. On the down side, my face looks fatter. On the upside, I can finally fill out my tops. :-) Getting "puffy" where you used to be gangly is just part of getting older.
As for James Marsters, well... I'm sure he was in the gym like every day to get that season 6 body. But even that does not explain the skinnyness and general angularity of his physique. Seldom have I seen an adult be able to maintain that kind of form (much to my dismay, given that my hubby used to have that form). I'm more like Nicholas Brendon, I guess (but, you know, a chick)... I started out naturally skinny and now I'm still roughly the same weight, but, somehow, not quite so angular. Seems natural to me.
Besides, so what if he did gain weight? Like Mesektet Ra said, he was still Xander!

I know what you mean. I gained like 25 pounds since high school and I graduated two and a half years ago. I think I look better though because I used to be really scrawny but now I look normal. LOL
As for Xander, it's normal for people to gain weight. A lot of people in the Buffy and Angel cast got chubbier over the years. Angel, Cordelia (even before she got pregnant she was getting thicker), Gunn, and some others.

yeah its definately a getting older thing. My boyfriend is 28 and he's built more like how Nick was in 5,6,7. I wouldn't call my boyfriend fat at ALL though. He's just... a man you know? I think when you get close to 30 things change definitely with your body, male or female.

I don't see any problems with actors gaining weight- especially since a lot are a little too thin to begin with- it;s the reasons and how they gain weight that are the concern. I mean I rarely notice this sort of thing, but I did notice the weight increase for Nicholas Brendon and the way it was in his face mostly I think suggested a bad diet rather than 'getting older and filling out'. Though it could be a combination of both. As you get older your metabolism rate changes (It's why children and teenagers can eat anything within reason and stay the same weight) and as his metabolism has naturally gone down he hasn't changed his diet to match that, thus causing him to gain weight. Although, we also know that excessive drinking of alcohol causes weight gain too so...
But as for weight gain itself, I'm not judgy.
I was always concerned about SMG's weight though. She got skinnier and skinnier as the seasons went on. In The Body she was sat down and you could see her bones above her breasts very clearly. When I was 17/18 I started suffering from EDNOS (Fancy term for not quite anorexic, but not bullemic)- dropping down to 100lbs (which for someone of 5'4/5'5 is definitely not the healthiest BMI) so I started noticing similar signs on her. She's argued against anorexia claims, which I agree with- she's not anorexic. But she lives on soup for crying out loud. My point is I tend to be more bothered with actors losing weight rather than gaining it. And whether it was signifying an unhealthy diet or habits I don't know, but the weight Nick gained was noticeable but not overly significant.
As for the puzzle of how James Marsters kept his shape. I think he's one of those people who are just naturally skinny their whole lives. Of course he'd have to work out to get the pecs ;), haha, but as for the over-chiseled cheek bones, I think that's genetic. I have a friend whose exactly the same. No matter how much she eats she's still as thin as Amy Acker. Which is, erm, annoying. Haha.

I think that his weight gain was the reason that he wore that god-awful ugly tan leather (?) coat so much. And speaking of weight, if anyone needed to add a few pounds, it was Sarah. She looked positively emaciated in Season 7.

07-01-2008, 12:37 PM
Xander (NB)... fat? Are you people using insane troll logic? He GREW UP. You never really notice how BROAD his shoulders are until you see him without a shirt... which only happened a handful of times. He wasn't all skinny in the hi-school years, but he was supposed to look "boyish".... hi-schoolish. I thought he looked just fine.
Now....
I was always concerned about SMG's weight though. She got skinnier and skinnier as the seasons went on. In The Body she was sat down and you could see her bones above her breasts very clearly.
....Yeah, if anything, be concerned about SMG's weight. She was so skinny during season 6 & 7 that I wondered if she had some problems with anorexia. It was sickening.

Im sure SMG appreciates everyones concerns, but, in s7 she was at her sexiest. Just coz someones skinny, dosnt mean 'anorexic'. and she didnt 'need' to put on weight either, im sure she wasnt gonna die.

Personally I always saw Sarah as a very tiny, slight woman. I mean there is abviously a noticable weight change from season one and two but she was 18 when she started, her body changed as well as the fact that she kicked up her training for the role. I never had an issue with her weight and never would have called her emancipated. In the latter seasons on Buffy she was often shooting films as well as the show and you can also add her make-up adds to that. That alone would cause her to lose weight.
As for Xander well, you can't stay young and trim forever. Just look at David Boreanaz..he had a little pot belly in season 5!

Xander was far from being fat in the later seasons. Bigger than when we first met him, obviously, but not fat at all.
As for Sarah, she never stopped being sexy but she was at her hottest around seasons 2 and 3 with the extra curves. I do think she had lost a little too much weight by season 7. Still one of the sexiest women on tv though.

i hate people calling him fat, oh so he grew up... its like when people called joey fat in the later season of friends, he's italien, its beefy not fat.... even look at Angel from season 1 to season 2... way bigger and nicer!
and after seeing wall e today, i think on tv shows we seem to judge all too easy....
and im sure you can guess how much i like him lol
and probably best in season 4 (he's too mini in season 2... great in season 1 but didnt joss think he was too buff and needed to be skinnier?) or season 5, and gotta love him all suited at the start of season 7 and with the eye patch at the end. LOVE HIM!

I think as he got older, his body just kind of matured. As someone said, it was the exact same thing that happened to Chandler on Friends and Angel. But, he still looked hot with his shirt off, so what does it matter? ;D I think he just bulked up more, really, which was more obvious in Season 6, but in comparison to Spike (who seemed to get incredibly skinny in Season 6...maybe that's just cause he was naked so damn much lol), he probably looked a whole lot bigger.
And let's not forget, the camera always adds 10 pounds.
...and like Chandler (or rather, Matthew Perry) they both struggle with issues outside of the show that affected their bodies/health
but he's always big cuddly Xander, he's the regular joe, so i never liked it when he was too buff and skinny (although he was extremely easy on the eye in Go Fish!) but i'd never say he was 'fat'
