Whedonverse CafePress Stores and Items

I just wanted to let everyone know, if you sell Whedonverse-related merchandise in your stores, watch out. I have been given the order to remove all my Buffy-related merchandise from my store from CafePress and 20th Century Fox. They have put a freeze on my items that hold images related to the shows and said that any pending sales won't go through.

This freakin' SUCKS! I haven't used their logo or anything; all my artwork is made with freeware I find on free vector and brush sites. Like I told the CafePress rep I spoke to today on the phone: just because I use the same font they use in their logo does not mean I'm using the logo itself, so how is that considered copyright infringement?? I'm so damn pissed! Even items that just have quotes from the show on them, such as "I've Got a Theory" and "The Hardest Thing In This World Is To Live In It" are being tagged as copyright infringement. 🙁

I make a lot of money from my "It Must Be Bunnies" shirt... It's my top seller out of the three shops I have. I'm pissed off and considering closing all my shops on there to boycott.

Wow, that is so unfair! So you're not allowed to put up any merchandise that are at all related to the show??

Fox are notorious for cease and desists. Hopefully they are not doing another run on fansites, just on those that it deems, rightly or wrongly, are profiting from its intellecutal property. Bearing in mind that CP are only giving you crap because Fox's lawyers have put the wind up them, if you take down anything using the 'offending' fonts, will they still let you trade?

That's a bummer! I wonder how many people this happened too; it seems like A LOT of sellers on Cafepress would be effected by this.

I'm no expert on copy right infringement so I don't have any advise for you, but I hope it gets worked out for you. 🙂

I am being forced to take down everything. Some of the stuff doesn't even use fonts from the show, but because it is using quotes from the show or whatever, they are making me take them down. I hate that crap. 🙁

Oh no. That's rubbish. I could understand if you had there logo across everything, using their pics etc but quotes? That seems a bit extreme. I hope you get it sorted hun.

I hope this won't make unwilling to sell on redbubble, etsy or ebay.

Would you like me to link to this thread from whedonwsque? See if people there could create a debate, give some advice. I know they've discussed this sort of thing before.

Looks like we won't b getting Buffy stuff bc it's sites like esty cafe press and red bubble that give the fans what they want.... Now there will be nothing ..,

I haven't tried other sites... Because of the computer crash I went through a while back, I lost the originals for the designs, so CafePress is kinda holding them hostage. 🙁 I'm going to try removing the Buffy-related tags to them to see if that will help my cause.
