You can't exactly compare Faith to Dana though. Dana really was mentally disturbed and dangerous, she would have been the same even without slayer strength, the powers just made her more dangerous. When it comes to Faith, she is just a regular girl, she was chosen to become a slayer (which I'm thinking Dana would've never been if it wasn't for the whole "all potentials in the world will be slayers" thing), it was the situation (not actually getting to be the slayer) and everything that happened after that that made her so unstable. Probably had to do with her background as well, but she wasn't insane like you'd call Dana.THE BLUE said:I mean look at Dana at ATS Season 5, her slayerness wasn't valid because she was mentally disturbed; she will kept under control by the new council and will probabably never be a valid slayer.
See, this is the thing. People who love Faith usually don't love her 'cause she was nicer or a better slayer than Buffy, the love her because she is (according to these people) a much more interesting character. That's why this discussion never really works. Buffy (the character) fans try to explain why Buffy is so much better by telling Faith fans about how Buffy is more stable, nicer, stronger, killed more bad guys, and say that Faith isn't as cool as Buffy because she made more mistakes (again, according to Buffy fans). They don't understand that we don't love Faith because we think she made all the right choices, no one has ever claimed that (hopefully), we love her because she is a very (as Jonut said) complex and interesting character. And we can appreciate that and understand why she did what she did, even though a lot of it was "wrong" and not the perfectly moral thing to do. That is interesting to us, the character is interesting to us, not how much better/nicer/stronger Buffy or Faith is.I would choose Faith as a character though, I think she has this intensity in her emotions which makes for an interesting character, when buffy blocked people out and numbed herself out in some situations Faith reacted to the extreme. She's insecure and all her acts seem to spawn from from deep seeded resentment and envy. She wants what Buffy has, she wants someone to love and when she couldn't get it she reacted by lashing out. I loved watching her hit rock bottom before finally deciding to change her life around, and returning to Sunnydale to faceeverything took a stronger person than Faith is normally given credit for.
She certainly makes an intriguing character and I guess without Buffy, Faith wouldn't really work because the storyline predominantly revolved around the good slayer/bad slayer theme. Buffy's good, Faith is just for me a much more complex and interesting character
