Third annual BB awards - nominations open

The original of this thread got accidentally deleted so I've tried to reconstruct it from memory as I didn't make a copy. Apologies if I missed anything. If you notice that I omitted something vital please let me know...my memory isn't what it used to be 🙂

I am now inviting nominations for the third annual BB awards. Things will be slightly different this year as there will be no public vote after nominations close. Winners will be decided by a judging panel composed of mods and invited "senior" BB members. The main reason for this is that we would like to hold the award ceremony on Feb. 2nd, as this is the BB's anniversary, so we need to arrive at the winners more quickly than a public vote would allow.

The categories are -

Storyteller - best fanfic posted (or completed)in 2007
Sunnydale Art Gallery - best piece of artwork posted in 2007
L'il Pumpkin Belly - cutest member or post (mods are excluded from this category)
Xander/Anya - funniest LOL BB moment - thread or post (mods are excluded from this category)
Doyle - most missed member (banned members are excluded from this category)
Class Protector - most helpful/supportive member (mods are excluded from this category)
Faith - coolest member (mods are excluded from this category)
Giles - biggest Buffy/Angel expert,clever-clogs, know-it-all (mods are excluded from this category)
Andrew - best RPG "actor" or "actress"

Please PM your nominations to me before midnight (GMT) on Monday 14th Jan. I will not accept any received after then.

Please nominate just one member per category and please don't nominate yourself (that's just sad and a little embarassing 😉)

Please include a link to the post/thread which is appropriate to your nomination for fanfic, artwork and funniest post/thread - this will be helpful to the judging panel.

If any of the non-mod judges are nominated for any of the awards I will give them the choice to either decline the nomination or to refrain from judging in that category, so things stay fair and above board.

If you have any questions please post them in this thread, which I will monitor - rather than tie up valuable nominating space in my PM inbox.

BTW - Please don't feel that you have to nominate someone in every category, there may be some that don't interest you at all...some people aren't bothered about fanfics, some people don't like fan art and some have no sense of humour 😉...or you may not have been around long enough to have experienced everything the BB offers yet. I will happily accept any nomination that gets into my inbox, provided it's a valid one of course.

It is enshrined in EU law that BB mods have to be either cooler than The Fonz or cuter than a basketload of labrador puppies before they get offered the job. Therefore it would be grossly unfair to pit members (mere mortals that they be) against such paragons of virtue 🙂

I'd love to be able to help you BotD but my hands are tied (actually that's another story 😉) - it would be against The Law 😀

I live in a Country where laws are passed without our input, where decisions are made without so much as a public debate (yes i'm talking about Brown/Europe/Referendum - so what, you wanna fight about it?) and the powers that be oft take liberty with us mere mortals and I sit idly by but this is it - the line must be drawn here.

The fight to get VG as Pumpkin Belly has begun - vive la resistance!!!!

note - points go to whoever guesses the three shows/movies that I used a line from in that, lets be honest, pointless rant🙂

ok, question. if we make nominations for some of the categories, can we then go back and nominate for the rest later, or does it have to be all at once?

For my sake, I'd prefer all at once but if you really can't decide them all at the same time I will accept additional nominations separately (providing each member only nominates one person per category).

Also - the only changes to noms I will consider will be where I advise you that one or more of your noms is not valid (for example, you accidentally nominate a banned member for the Doyle award or the fanfic you have chosen was completed in 2006)

and sorry for all the questions, but i get that the awards are working differently this year, yet im a little confused. are the nominations for the xander/anya award supposed to be for specific posts and threads, or people? it says posts and threads, but people is what had been done in the past. is this a change?

Question away...it's part of my job to answer them 🙂

The Xander/Anya thing is a little vague, isn't it? It's not really a change, as much as that previous years' votes have favoured individuals. I think that the humour thing is sometimes of the moment rather than of the person necessarily. Can I illustrate what I'm getting at with a few fictional examples?

1)Vision Guy makes a brilliant pun, which I think is the gag of the century. I vote for VG.

2)n4h and Old Master engage in some hilarious banter in last year's awards thread. I vote for their double act.

3)BEG starts a thread in which every other post just creases me up. I vote for the thread.

4)Buffy Summers consistently makes posts which always make me smile and brighten my dull old days. I vote for the Buffster.

In my experience most people's nominations will be for situations like 1 & 4, so, no problem, the award goes to the individual member concerned. However, I'm always prepared to recognise good teamwork (one management course too many, I'm afraid 🙂) so I won't discount nominations like situations 2 & 3. Admittedly, it does make things easier for me if all the votes are for individuals but I reckon I can deal with most things you guys can nominate (btw - BotD please don't take that as a challenge 😉)

I'm sorry for being spammy but these comments are getting very...well, annoying. You get offended when people call you annoying and then you turn around and annoyingly say you're annoying. It's almost like malice. Like you're TRYING to be annoying...which is sad.

In that vein, I'd like to remind you all that there is only just over a day in which to PM me your noms, if you haven't already.

I want the 'Anya Annoying' award too.
Taken in the vein of Anya, someone who is liked by most but can say something occasionally that can be irksome, if not obvious/honest.
