No Buffy board isn't complete without the Jane Espenson and Andrew appreciation thread and since I can't seem to be able to find one of those I'm making my own. If there are any other threads like that out there point me in that direction and I will come running.

So Joss Whedon is a God (or if you're an athiest or just uncomfortable to use that word, please use something else. Perhaps very, very, very talented and interesting humanbeing), but Jane Espenson is briliant. I men just look at her episodes (ok if we could just forget As you were) are great. Moving on Andrew, oh sweet Andrew.

She wrote one of favorite episodes Pangs ------- And I'm sure she is one of the reasons I consider myself a bit of a btvs s4 slut, yes, slut I'll whore myself out to that season any day!

That's a good site, it looks really good as well. Another good Jane site is It was Just a Dog, but I can't seem to be able to post the url.
 
Actually I think the problems you guys are having posting URLs might have something to do with the spam protection software that's on this site. It makes new members wait until they've made 15 posts (or something like that), before giving them access to the URL posting stuff.

Good to see you guys here. I always love it when the brainy ones wield their way through the labyrinth that is Buffy-boards and stumble into the dark little cubby-hole of Whedonverse forum, where they post on meaty stuff like the writers - not that I'm saying the writers themselves are meaty you understand. That would be rude (although have you seen Fury?)

But, I should get on topic I guess.

Mark me down for an, "I love Jane Espenson" button.

I hear she's going to Tru Calling this season.

I'm curious. Why Jane Espenson and Andrew? Is it because of the "Storyteller" thing.

Wasn't it interesting how Jane took Jonathan with her to Gilmore Girls, and changed his name to Doyle? Ya think she'll put him in her pocket, and take him with her to Tru too?

Anyway my favourite Jane Espenson ep would be Storyteller.

Hey, did you notice how she seemed to peeking in Season 7.

There should be buttons like that, wpnder if there are any buttons like that. Oh now I'll have to cruise the web for Jane Espenson buttons.

Because she's such a good writer and I've always liked Andrew and I just didn't have time to post two threads so they'd have to share. Moreover when you combine them you get Storyteller (have to go with the flow and say that that's my fav episode as well).

I know. She was great in an otherwise kind of slow season. It might not have been the best of episodes but Firts Date was hilarious, not to mention Same Time, Same Place.
 


She does seem to the love the nerds(ahem underdogs) . How could you not love Jonathan after superstar ( I even have the Jonathan comic)--- Who doesnt love Storyteller , the who camera thing and those drawings if you did'nt appreciate Andrew before this episode well you should have -----


I hope she puts him in her pocket :hihi: maybe the whole trio will end up there (but thats wishful thinking)

People always give her credit for the wackier stuff, because she use to write comedy, but I also like those quiet scenes she does between 2 characters like Willow and Buffy on the bed at the end of Same Time, Same Place, or Jonathan and Buffy in the watchtower at the end of Earshot.

"How could you not love Jonathan after Superstar"...Ahem...well actually, I have to shamefacedly admit, I hated Superstar. (Still a big Jonathan fan though). I think it's interesting that Superstar seems to be one of those episodes that people love or they hate. I can't say it's bad, I can only say I personally don't like it. It's one of Jane's personal favourite episodes though.

Another interesting Jonathan/Jane thing. I sometimes wonder why they gave Drew Goddard the Nerd scenes, and Jane the Dawn scenes to write in CWDP. You would expect them to give Jane the death of Jonathan scene. He's such an obvious favourite of hers.

I have a kind of fantasy wish thing, where they remake the TV series The Lone Gunmen. Jane Espenson writes and produces. The Troika stars.

Well I didn't, I still found him whiny, irritating, unfunny and just a waste of time. But this is an appreciation thread so onto Jane. She's cool, includes herself in the DVD features as well so yay for her.

now I feel embarassed I even mentioned superstar its hokey ---I'm aware but it has its moments---- I was going to mention her more emotional moments but ( I'm hitting myself w/ the mousepad --- could not get them out for the life of me bad fan girl , bad!!!) And I was most definetly taken w/ him after earshot (I was in his shoes once too in a lesss drematic fashion and no gun)

I think maybe they thought she'd might go overboard with his death scene? or perhaps it just chanced out that way ...

Ooh! A jane Espenson thread! I love Jane. Ever since Band Candy, she's been my favourite. I love how she can blend the comedy and the more touching moments but it all seems natural. I love listening to her commentaries, it's part of what made me fall in love with her. She is so open to the fans and willing to put herself out there for us. I think that it's because at heart, she's just a big fan-girl herself.

I like Andrew. There's a naive quality about him that makes it impossible not to at least sympathize with him... "la cucaracha..."

Nah, there are some funny scenes in that one. Ok the plot sucks and I what's with the antagonist? The penis-lady? But it's almost worth it you know the instruction video or whatever it is Buffy's watching in the beginning is just hilarious and Buffy's react to it. Moreover we got the man with the grease plugs, I wish we would've seen more of him.
 
you bring up some valid points-- It was pretty damn funny... the uniform is priceless and that video gahfaw...
 
Alas I forgot about the uniform. Only thing that makes it worth not just suppresing every memory of As you were was the line My hat has a cow., gotta love that one.
 
Here's three interesting tidbits concerning Jane:

September 17, 2004: Jane still hard at work
Despite the soon to be ending production of Tru Calling, Jane Espenson is still hard at work developing her own project. While the details are still under wraps, it looks like we'll have a Jane-penned pilot to look forward to this year.

September 16, 2004: Tru Calling removed from fall schedule
Fox Television has postponed the season premiere of the Thursday night show, Tru Calling. Production is still ongoing for the sixth episode, but it is unlikely to continue thereafter. Whether the six completed episodes will be aired at a later date, or saved for a dvd release, has yet to be announced.

August 12, 2004: Jane's first Tru Calling episode begins filming
"In the Dark," Jane Espenson's first Tru Calling episode, starts filming today in Vancouver. It will be the third episode of the upcoming second season of the Fox television drama, starring Eliza Dushku and Jason Priestley, and is expected to air on November 18, 2004.
