I was thinking about the arguement that buffy now hold the slayer line because she was reinserted into the slayer line when resurrected, and it was this shiftt from faith to buffy that caused the instability. However I thought if that was true then I didn't see where faith would be, would she be pushed out of the line or what?

Then it hit me maybe, when buffy came back she was reinserted into the line, but didnt push faith out, instead it brought about the formation of two separate slayer lines running paralell to one another, which would obviously cause instability in the slayer line, i mean whats more unstable than being cut in two!!!

This means that both buffy and faith's death would cause the activation of a new slayer meanng there will be two slayers forever.

However some may argue then why isn't there two slayers in Fray, well the answer is simple, sometime after buffy the slayer line obviously returned to normalacy because in fray there'nt are like a thousand slayers.

i love all of your theories, xin rong...mostly because i can actually see your point!
this is another interesting idea. it would explain why buffy was talking throughout S7 about how one of the girls would be chosen if SHE died, not faith. but this would mean there would be another slayer if faith died too.

i think it's obvious that there is a strong connection between the slayers, especailly buffy and faith. the 'chosen' when buffy and faith were being beaten by the uber-vamps, buffy regained her strength and managed to fight back, and as soon as buffy started fighting, faith did too. so maybe there's something between them that no one has thought about...

Thank you for the compliment, I'm very touched
Yeah we know theres a connection between faith and buffy, i mean subconciously Faith should have buffy memories but as they are both alive this complicates things and confuses me but it makes sense that they should have some kind of emotional/psychic connection and there is evidence to support this in graduation day when they share a dream

Not disagreeing at all. I've always thought that possibility was worth considering.

One thing though, just because I suspect it might have some kind of importance when considering which way the line runs. Why does the First try to kill Faith in prison, but want to keep Buffy alive?

excellent question.
I dont know but even if only buffy holds the line then why would he not want to kill her, if she died a new slayer would be called and why would it matter, in fact you think he'd prefer a new, less experienced slayer to be called.

I think that if my theory is right that maybe he wants to finish her of himself, or he wants her to suffer.

However if my theory is wrong, maybe killing buffy would make the slayer line stable once again, afterall giles did say that it was because buffy LIVES, not because she was brought back.

Also, not that i dont think it was the first trying to kill faith, but is there any proof to say it was, besides faiths opinion, it could have been a third party, possibly even someone from the watchers council, afterall when the council was blown up, maybe a few surviving watchers decided they needed a slayer to protect them, but knowing buffy/faiths attitudes towards them decided they needed a new, more controllable slayer. Granted this is all specualtion but nevertheless it's possible

i understand your point about the council wanting a new slayer. i would say that the council were still thinking that the slayer line ran through faith at this point, so killing her would activate a new girl, one which the council would be able to control in a way they were never able to control buffy and faith.

however, the knife used in the attack on faith was a bringer's knife. since the bringers had no way of getting into the prision to attack faith themselves, they did the next possible thing and hired an inmate to attack her for them.

i like the theory of faith and buffy sharing dreams, as i've said before, i think this is entirly what happened. we know of at least 2 occasions were faith and buffy were involved in the same dream (graduation day pt2, this years girl) so, i think it's possible that their connection goes deeper than that, possibly even a psychic connection...

Was it really a bringers knife though, its shape was similar shape but the design and decorations on the actual knife aren't seen on bringers knifes, and it is possible that someone else may use the same or a similar knife.

P.S. I would just like to verify I do actually think the first was behind faiths attack, I just like playing devils advocate sometimes and aruing an opposing view

i like doing that too!
but, to get back to the discussion, i think it was a bringer's knife. the knifes on buffy were never seen as clearly as that one was, so i think they were the same knives.

It definetly wasn't the standard bringer knife, it was jewel encrusted and silver, at least as far as i remember it was. Maybe the knife was shown clearly so we knew faith was about to come under attack or maybe to lead us to think that the bringers did it, I mean the watchers wouldn't want people thinking it was them they could quite easily get a knfe similar to one of a bringer

that's very true. the council might have done it to divert attention away from them. but wasn't the council already destroyed at this point? most of the watchers died, and the rest would have been too busy grieving and trying to figure out who did it to care about faith, or anyone else.
so, i'm still gonna go with it being a bringer knife.

Didn't the butch lady who tried to kill Faith cut her eyes afterward? I haven't watched any seasons in a while though, so I could be wrong.

They would have known it was the first, as the watchers knew the first was waging war on their institution. The fact that the council was destroyed means that its even more likely that the remainding watchers are going to be desparate for help and protection so turn to the only thing they know, the slayer

Also we know the council had more than one headquarter, they had several stationed around the world, as seen in TOTS

really? i don't remember that. i know faith hit her with the weight and it bled her nose, but i don't remember her cutting her eyes.

What if Buffy and Faith share their being a slayer, but since Faith hasn't died before yet, she's the only one who could pass it on. If Faith dies it would get passed on, if it weren't for that it's attached to Buffy, if Buffy then dies later it wouldn't get passed on, cause Buffy lost that ability, ergo buh-bye Slayer.

Are you basically saying faith holds the slayer line?

Same here, i watched this episode last night and she didnt cut her eyes but had her face bloodied up by faith.

Also I took a good look at the knife and I'm pretty sure it isn't even the same shape as the bringers knifes, as i am sure their knifes are much more curvy

i don't know. maybe it's a different knife that they used?

and also, how did the inmate get the knife anyway? she's in prison! aren't there, like, surcurity checks or something?

The wathers and the first have ways of doing things, maybe they used magic to get the knife in.

Or perhaps it was the senior partners/wolfram and hart who were trying to knock off faith, afterall we know they didnt want the first to succeed maybe they thougt killing faith would creat a slayer outside prison, maybe in sunnydale who could increase buffys chances of stopping the firsts apocalypse

No, Buffy and Faith hold the line together. If Faith dies she couldn't pass it on, cause Buffy'd still hold it. If Buffy dies next she couldn't pass it on, because she lost that ability. If Buffy dies first and then Faith, all'd be okay.

so, you're basically saying that if buffy and faith died together, then the slayer line would revert back to normal.
hmm, i don't know. it did get pretty screwed up.

I can see how that theory would work, they both hold the line so both have to die for next slayer to be called, although i prefer my theory, but thats probably cos I'm bias lol
