is Cecily Addams? The love of William's life before he became Spike (or at least they are played by the same actress, look it up if you want). In the episode summaries on this site I looked at "Older and Far Away" and they had this: "Briefly, Halfrek recognizes Spike as William and he finds her familiar too, but both deny knowing each other." It just hit me last night when I was watching LMPTM because of Spike's flashbacks that Cecily might have become a vengence demon and that is how she recognized Spike as William and he recognized her. Tell me if I'm crazy or if this has been posted a million times before. I just found it kinda interesting.

Check out IDW's Spike: Old Times. They played with this already.

I hadn't noticed that! Thanks for pointing it out!
Oh I have. I've always wondered if Cecily became a vengance demon, or if they were just recycling an actress.
But I don't think it was ever confirmed, was it?
Maybe Joss and co left that for us to make our own inferences. =]

You're not crazy, though I do believe most people know about Celfrek 🙂. I never knew what to make of the fact that she became a vengeance demon; it was never explained, and seemed a bit random, but I do love the awkward moment between her and Spike in Older and Far Away. She was pretty funny and definitely served a purpose in Selfless - so I guess I don't mind her character. I always thought that she would have some kind of confrontation with Spike, but it never came.

By the way, I love your avatar.

Were there any flashbacks or stories like with Aud that pre-date Cecily? IIRC there was one that was in Russia, so there could be a contradiction somewhere that gives a definate answer. I like to think they are the same person though.

I'm sure it says in one of the commentaries that it was a case of re-cycling an actress. When the writers realises that the same actress had been cast for Halfreck as for Cecily, they thought they would turn it into an in joke because they knew the fans would pick up on it anyway.

Pretty sure that was said to have been in the Russian revolution, so like early 1900's ? Someone help me out with the dates with that one, I'm not a history buff. But I definately remember them talking about starting the revolution....

You're welcome ;)
The Russian Revolution was in 1917. Well, that was the big one anyway that ultimately led to the downfall of the Tsar so I presume that was the one it was set in. But there was significant revolutionary events in 1905....but whichever date it is, the Cecily/William (Is that Cilliam or Wecily? Hehe) thing happened in 1880, so that was before that. So it's entirely plausible that Cecily became Halfrek. Plus, it's more fun if you think of it like that rather than the mundane reason of 'Actor Recycling', you know?

Thanks for the dates! I knew it was somewhere around then
I think it was planned. Well, maybe not really planned, but not random either, so I don't think the actress was just accidentally recasted. Seriously, they probably keep a record of who was cast for what part and if somebody comes back it's because they were good, not because no one on set was getting their acts together.
And well, from the way they reacted it was clear they must know each other ('William?'). The reason why they denied is imo because somewhere deep down Halfrek was still Cecily ad therefore somehow had to deny him ('You're beneat me'), well and Spike just played along because he still felt something for her.

Here's my happy brain at work:

Cecily WAS Halfrek. IOW, Cecily was a vengeance demon, doing some work there. And some little kid made a freaky wish, & then *William* went out & got himself sired by Drusilla. Heh. :bite-cha:

Oooh, good spin on the story!
I'm going with what Tranquility said, because i heard it on the commentary too. It was just recasting the same actress, and †hey thought they'd play with it a bit, but its not like they ever had this story that they were really the same person in the 'verse.

Yah, I'm pretty sure that it was an inside joke (I heard this somewhere) because Joss and company knew the fans were not stupid and would notice the same actress....yet I'm pretty sure that Cecily and Halfrek are different characters.

Can anyone confirm this??

Just occured to me what that wish could have been... Imagine a kid reading a note with the Bloody poetry and saying, within earshot of Celfrek "This is disgusting... I wish it were immortalized how much that guy sucks!"

Yes. Very clever. Made me giggle!
🙂 I assumed that it was done accidently/on purpose. Like the writers were aware of it, and let the fans draw their own conclusions about it. This is similar to The Judge/Adam casting.

Wasn't the Judge also Luke (the vampire) from Welcome to the Hellmouth and wasn't Rack also the crazy vampire that Buffy had to fight in Helpless? ^Was Adam used twice?

This is correct. We've been talking about this on the Addicted To Buffy group: Incompatible Browser | Facebook

I hadn't noticed that before, thanks!

Whenever I watched the "Hello William" interaction, I was always curious, but overlooked it thinking it would be explained in a later episode.

wow I always just assumed it was Cecily and her vengeance demon name was Halfrek (like Aud > Anyanka). I thought that she must have got the vengeance gig after she broke William's heart and he went out and got vamped by Dru.

I noticed that and for some reason I started jumping up and down and got all excited. After that I went round saying "Spike had a crush on a vengeance demon!" over and over again. I still have no idea why I did that.
