Question Similar Shows?

I really enjoyed this show, from Welcome to the Hellmouth to Chosen and I have had a really difficult time finding a similar show thats as good as this one which is why I wanna ask you guys if you know of any similar shows or shows that you have enjoyed that are similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

I hope my question isn't off topic 🙁 for this part of the forum. And yes, I've watched both Angel and Firefly, and I have enjoyed them both. Thanks for the recommendations 🙂
 
Hmmm, I can't really think of anything that's similar. I don't really watch to much TV. The only other shows I really watch are Moonlight (which is kind of a second rate Angel), How I Met Your Mother, and Scrubs. There are heaps of people on here that know about plenty more TV shows though so I'm sure they'll help you out.
 
Hey corsaire. Sadly there isn't to much like Buffy anymore. But a little pick and mix might get you something similar. Pushing Daisies is a lot of fun, the format pretty much let's it go anywhere. High drama, a lot of humor, and even some musical moments. I seen freaks and geeks mentioned here, and it really is fantastic, a nice group of oddball characters, like our scoobies, dealing with high school crap, no demons here though. For oddball characters, with supernatural elements, look into carnivale and twin peaks, great shows, but don't expect humor. Very dark stuff. Dead like me( first season) and six feet under, are a nice mix of dark and funny. Sadly most of these shows aren't on TV anymore, but you'll find them on the net or dvd.
 
Thank you guys for the input and the link to topic! I will definitely check out that Pushing Daisies and Hex. I will never forget this show, though, it's in a league of its own.

From the suggestions I went with Battlestar Galatica first, and loved it! Sped watched three and a half seasons, only to find out that I now have to wait til January to watch the last half of the final season! Torture.

I'd also recommend My So Called Life (is where all the more intelligent "teen" shows started, IMO)

Supernatural or Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicals - both good, but not great.

I'm also loving The Wire - slightly more hard hitting than Buffy...

A show that is similar to "Buffy" in several ways, especially in its second and final season, is "Dark Angel," starring a young, pre-blond Jessica Alba. Some of people here dismiss the show as just a Buffy rip-off, but it's still fun to watch, if for no other reason than to hunt all of the parallels between the two shows. There are also 3 novels based on the show, all written by Max Allan Collins, who does at least as good a job with his subject as any of the more popular Buffy/Angel writers did, and seems to me at least to write on a bit more mature level than the "young adults" level of the Buffy books.

"Alias" is good, too, for its action scenes if nothing else, and you could make a game out of counting the number of hallways that the actors run down in each season.

"Highlander: The Series" is good for its action and fantasy content. Adrian Paul is a skilled martial artist and swordsman, and the fight scenes are some of the finest that have ever been seen on tv.

"Tru Calling" only lasted a season and a half, but what there was of it is worth watching, if only to see Eliza Dushku in her own series.

"Moonlight" was pretty good, but it only lasted the one season, and as far as I know isn't available on disc yet.

Another vampire show that IS available on disc is "Forever Knight" about a vampire police officer. I never got to watch much of it, but what I saw was pretty good.

About the closest to the vampire slayer genre, though, is currently into it's third(?) season, "Supernatural," about two brothers who are demon hunters. It's a sort of "Buffy meets Route 66" if you're familiar with that old show.

If you watch the DVD audio commentary for the first show, they give Buffy major props. They said the if the theme of Buffy was 'high school is hell' then they wanted Supernatural to be 'family can be hell'

I was impressed that they cited Buffy as something they aspired to become.

They even have that tag line for ghost facers...WWBD What Would Buffy Do.. Some major Buff love on that show.
I haven't been able to convince anyone, but I think Reaper is getting close to the Buffy genre, if there is such a thing.

It's definitely not as deep or allegorical or as funny really. But it's got weekly monster hunting, comedy and romantic angst. And it was really starting to build up distinct story arcs, a mythology at the end of the 1st season.

What nobody's mentioned True Blood yet?

I have just recently discovered it, so now of course, am a complete expert 😉 and look down my nose at any, and all Buffy fans who aren't totally in love with it. J/K 🙂
 
I had thought about getting cable again for that.. but decided against it.
 
Can I suggest Dr Who, and spin-off show Torchwood? They are similar as for mixing fantasy (well, sci-fi) with action and humour. And, dr Who is part of tv-history. And, Anthony Stewart Head starred in one dr. Who episode and James Marsters in one (technically two) Torchwood episodes (ASH played an evil Headmaster and JM played a sort of alien-Spike. I'm guessing the writers at least KNOW Buffy ^^)
 
Excellent call Relic. I forgot about that one. I think the rip-off of TAPs is soo funny. Especially the first season when the one say "I think I heard something move... but it could have just been that joint I smoked earlier" I laugh my bottom off, because I have went on some ghost hunts and that is soooo true.
 
A cleverly written show is Chuck, more like Buffy/Friends cool humor meets 24 with a heaping of Mission Impossible thrown in for humor and giggles.

No vampires, but definately the dual life thing going on - like Buffy's role as the slayer and then the person people could relate to. Trade demons and what not for rougue agents/ 007 type stuff, well...I see afew things in common.

I highly recommend it, for whatever thats worth. 🙂
