Just thought it would be cool to keep a list of the Buffy references that pop up in Dollhouse.

I'll start with Episode 1.02's reference to "Tabula Rasa" 🙂

i thought that too, then i was like and the Stargate Atlantis ep and the Lost ep called that too (i think criminal minds... probs more)
It's not a real reference (or maybe it is; I don't know how broad the term is), but last episode (1.03) Echo was acting SO Faith at some point (when she took that Reyna girl to her crazy fan and threatened to kill her). Seriously, I was telling Sara as we watched it, the things Echo said could've come out of Faith's mouth exactly like that.

That's exactly what I thought too
In 1.03 Eliza's character hit somebody and explained it by saying "I'm a Southie." I thought that was probably a little Faith reference.

She's not a Southie, though... Faith was. Eliza came from a pretty affluent suburban family.

To be honest, I cant see many connections being made between series. I think Joss will be going out of his way not to connect the two and so most references will be either accidental or 'forced' in nature.

Also, why is this sticky'd?

Well if this is why the thread is sticky'd I very much disagree yes. Im not sure thats the case though with so many mods.

As I said, were gonna be stretching to find links, even 'Tabula Rasa' was a part of my dictionary before Buffy. I think Joss connecting Dollhouse with Buffy would be a step in the wrong direction... feel free to disagree.

Here's one reason it might be worth keeping an eye open. Has anybody noticed the little Tim Minear touches in Dollhouse yet? The noirish aspect, the tricky optics between seques, the Rebecca Locke similarity to Miss Penn in the pilot?

One of the things Minear was doing with The Inside before Fox killed it was hiding little whedonverse references. A theatre was showing Once More With Feeling, something about the Firefly blue gloves guys, things like that.

I think Minear is just listed as a consultant on Dollhouse, but for those of us who remember The Inside there's enough to put the 2 things together, and suspect we might see something similar to the hidden references trick from The Inside.

What reason would I have to hate? You get your kicks that way, I get them from beautiful men and women - just remember to have enough tissue to hand when Dollhouse has Echo do something Buffyesque!

Yeah but don't you think there is a line between being a fan of a show and being that super nerdy guy who sits with a pad and pencil watching the show for that one moment a character says something that MIGHT be a connection to another show JUST because some people were involved.

I know I am geeky but I have my limits.

No offence N to the H but this whole comment strikes me as that one last mastubatory moment for fans hoping to see that their beloved shows creators haven't forgot them when he's moved on to other stuff.

Don't hate me EB, but when Tim was doing it, I thought it was a kick. It was fun.
Joss may be trying to crack down on the inter-show "easter eggs" lately, though. Georges Jeanty, the artist on the Buffy season 8 comic, says JW asked him not to put in "Firefly" references because he didn't want any connection between the shows... he doesn't want to constantly have to answer questions like "is River a Slayer?" or "will Spike be showing up in the Serenity sequel if there is one?" He's probably following the same rules with Dollhouse.
 
Sorry for trying to keep a fun list as the season goes on, of little things that might be thrown in by the creators of the show. Yeesh.

i think they cant help it and will do these things unintentionally (sometimes) and we as fans are obsessed and cant help looking for it (i know ive been doing it by accident)

Of course I also went 'heeeey, Buffy episode' when I heard that, but, I just have to quote one of my psych books from uni here:

In that sense, I think this is just the perfect term to describe the dolls, which, if they hadn't used it, would've made them look like morons for not using it. So no power to the Buffy reference here.
 
The only reference I felt was Echo to Faith in Stage Fright. She totally played it out Faith style.

Also, Boyd is kinda like Echo's watcher.
 
I haven't seen any references to Buffy in Dollhouse. ::huh1::

My favourite reference to Buffy was in Dexter though. 😀 I remember watching it by myself and having no one to tell. 😛

Trivia:
Nina expresses her disgust at Angel when she finds him about to eat "two Doublemeat" hamburgers. The Doublemeat Palace is the fictitious fast food restaurant suspected of serving ground-up human murder victims in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997), where Drew Z. Greenberg also worked as a staff writer.

Uhm, the Dollhouse set is ALL too familiar of Season 5 "Wolfram & Hart". But I like it, so no complaints.

Also, having seen Tru Calling, I'd have to say that most of these "Echo is to Faith" references are because they're portrayed by the same actress doing the same type stuff. Echo, Faith, and Tru are all similar in the way that Eliza portrays them.
 
Oh come on.. Stage Fright was a total nod to Faith. The dialogue, the movements, her attitude.. Just like her character in the second episode screamed 'Jessie' from Wrong Turn.
 
Okay, I definitely don't think the second episode was supposed to be a nod to "Wrong Turn." Pretty sure Eliza Dushku doesn't even want to be reminded she was in that.
 
Really? Running around lost and confused in a forest while being hunted by some psycho? Either that's a wacky coincidence or a total nod to Wrong Turn.
 
Alright, well.. I'm sure during the creation of the episode, the whole Wrong Turn scenario slipped everyone's minds.
