Episode Discussion 1.05 "True Believer" - Aired 3-13-09 (FOX-US)

I um, well...there were a lot of great moments in this episode. Lots of great banter between Claire and Topher. But I was totally not liking the Echo stuff. The end was ok though, when she got her sight back, that was good. So, I liked it, but I didn't love it! But I will some what eat my words from last week when I said I wouldn't like it. Because it was definitely above average. 🙂

Next weeks looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I LOVED the ending. Very, Very, Very exciting!
 
I loved this episode espicially the Claire and Topher scenes but my favorite scene was definitley the shower scene lol that scene was so hilarious along with Ester's(Echo)"Move Your ASS!" scene.I'm so glad Mr.Dominique is getting closer and closer to a slap and resignation from Adelle.
Did anyone else other than me say "That's it" when the episode ended? I don't why but it felt bland in a way it was cool but I mostly liked how Claire is really starting to warm up and how Echo is kinda getting edgy.
I loved the Mellie and Ballard scene they both look like a good couple together I just hope the rumors of her character aren't true cause I really like her. Overall this epsiode was good I give 4/5
 
I really loved tonight's ep... almost tied with the manhunt one for my fave so far. Really interesting plot, really liked how it played out, and I thought Eliza did excellent with it! The Victor/Sierra "development", lol, was a nice twist as well. Who's Ms. Lonely Heart's though? They made it seem that she was the one that had been comissioning Victor's personality we've been seeing cause they said he'd had the same imprint 8 times and that was unusual... that confused me cause I thought for sure it was the Dollhouse themselves imprinting him with that to spy and keep tabs and throw off FBI guy... Lonely Hearts isn't weird stalkerish next door neighbor gal is she... my mind instantly went to her but I figured thats just what we'd dubbed her or something....
 
LOVED this episode. Every week when the show finishes I go "Damn.. That was the best one so far." The show really is getting better and better each week.

FAV moment - Man reaction, Sneezure, "Move your ass!", When Echo decked the spitting guy, Boyd rescuing Echo.

Wouldn't it be crazy if the neighbor chick there turns out to be Alpha? Not saying I'm wanting that... I'd prefer a hot strapping young man for Alpha.. But hey, story hooks before looks, I guess.

Mellie was who I thought about instantly too! It was a good episode with some nice twists. 😀
 
Playing a blind person when you're not is VERY difficult, and I think Eliza did okay. Mr. Bear and I were commenting on the regional American stereotypes--midwest = cults; Applachians/south = inbred cannibal people; Montana = cowboys, etc. At least they picked Arizona and not Texas, which would have been TOO easy.

I LOVED the look on Victor's face in the shower when he realized he was, um, having a "man reaction." And Topher's complete uncomfortableness with it. And Claire's "whatever" attitude about it. Those scenes were more interesting than the Arizona stuff, to me. At least until the security guard guy came to try to kill Echo. I can't wait until whasserface kicks him out on his ass.
 
I really disliked this episode, it didn't get my attention and i wasn't interested in the cult or the storyline. I did like the scenes with Amy and the other guy (i always forget his name!) they were funny and about the only bit i enjoyed. Really dissapointed hope the next ones better.
 
I loved the scenes where Eliza's character stopped being a meek little lamb and started cutting through the B.S....grabbing Jonas's hand and saying "it's a miracle, I can see"... punching the guy who spat on her... saying "God says move your ass"... now we're starting to see the Jossverse heroine emerging in her.

I have to wonder whose personality they imprinted her with, though. Did they put in a meek, pliable cult member who turned out not to be so meek and pliable? Or was that Caroline's personality breaking through?

The final scene... with Echo looking at Laurence and saying "I can see perfectly" will go down as the moment when everything changed. Our little Echo isn't a Dolly anymore.

It looks like both Echo and Victor are very fond of Sierra, in different ways (I assume), but while E and V are both becoming self-aware, S does not seem to be. Looks like that will be a source of emotional (and maybe physical) conflict down the road.
 
I didn't mind this ep. But I did like the other stories more than the whole cult thing itself. Not bad twistwise though. Loved Victor the whole "man reaction" thing....the thing is...can you really just wipe that away? It's natural. Instinctual. Basically he's a guy in his prime with the mind of a 3 year old or whatever....but still the body wants what it wants. I'm sure I'll come up with something later....but I was liking the idea of a Sierra/Victor thing.

Dominic.....evil, evil Dominic.....gah...how much did I want either Boyd to kick his ass or Adelle to do it, something! Anything! All he gets is extra exercise? He deserves some sort of crap! Someone should send him to the freaking attic! Topher and Claire.....awww cuteness, it was fun watching Topher be all immature and Claire be not. I like the extra interaction between Echo, Adelle and Claire as well. Girl power!

The cult thing just gives me the wiggins. I'm not sure I liked the dramatic difference between blind Ester and seeing Ester...Blind Ester was impressive...Seeing Ester is back with a Faith like quality....I just wasn't digging it that much. I much preferred Echo as Echo in the end.
 
When i saw the promo for this episode i got a little worried...i didn't think it really looked that good...but boy was i wrong!! I absolutely loved this episode! Brilliantly done and Eliza did a fantastic job through-out (I would expect no less 🙂)

I was also really please with this episode as we got to see more of Amy! 😀 Still waiting for her to be sent on a mission with Echo, that would just be awesome 🙂

This one is possibly my favourite one so far...well either that or Target or the Pilot...not sure 🙂 Looking forward to nexts weeks one!

Favourite bits...either Topher laughing at Sneezure or...The man reaction 😉

I'll admit, I was a little iffy about this episode after watching the promo, but as soon as I saw Tim Minear's name attached to it, I knew it was gonna exceed my expectations. And I was right! What a great episode. It's easily my favorite yet. I especially loved the scenes with Topher and Dr. Saunders...I seriously had to pause the episode because I was laughing so hard. Take that, you people who kept saying, "Bawww, no Joss-esque humor, bawwww!"

Also, even though I'm still not all that engrossed in Paul Ballard's character, Tahmoh Penikett gives me a serious woman-reaction.

LOL Agreed. He's a hottie. I'm excited about seeing him at the ComiCon here in Seattle next month.
What I definitely liked about this episode was, for the first time we got like a funny scene. You know, the whole 'man reaction' thing and how it was handled. That's something Dollhouse lacked before.
I love how Echo is becoming more and more self aware, how she's outgrowing her imprints and then her child-like state. What I really wonder though, when Echo does things she's not supposed to do in her unimprinted state, is it Echo developing a whole new persona, or is it just caroline starting to shine through?
Can't wait for next week's episode, I hope it will really be as good as everyone keeps saying.

The writer did a great job.
Eliza did well when she was blind. But poor Echo, she was slapped too often. 🙁
I like that "Move you ASSSSSS!!!"
Topher/Claire scene was funny. I like how Claire moved from left to right, and right to left to watch the screens and she didnt even feel 'hot' to watch people take a shower, she's just working, lol. And Amy looked at the camera a little. It was like she looked at us.
And Victor/Sierra <3
That Jonas was creepy. I was almost afraid to look in his eyes.
And I'm pretty sure that Millie the neighbor has some mysterious background. I dont think she's a doll. I think she's pure evil, indeed. Cant wait till she reveals herself and wear evil face. But maybe it just me.

But I dont understand why Mr.Dominic slapped Echo and left her unconcious there. He tried to kill her?? Could somebody please tell me?
 
In the 'previously on' segment they made a point of reiterating the doll imprints originate from dead people. But with this one they would have had to have added the stuff about the prophetic dream, and the need to seek out the cult.

I got the impression Ms. Lonelyhearts was some sort of high priced escort agency. The senator was described as one of the Dollhouse's best customers. In Stage Fright Adelle tells Rayna's manager the twins are available. Put all those together, and one gets the impression the Dollhouse has regulars.

In the pilot there was something about how certain types of trauma, or psychological conflicts could disrupt the imprint, and cause unknown side-effects, so I'm guessing that's what happened when the blinding apparatus glitched out in Echo's eyes, and she could see again.

I'm either starting to get this Dollhouse thing, and I like it, or I'm fanwanking it into a shape I enjoy. Either way...:thumbsup:
 
I wasn't paying very much attention when watching this episode of Dollhouse (i.e I wasn't even in the room. 😉) but from the snippets I saw it seemed okay; not the best episode so far, but it was good. And I liked the ending; mysterious, enticing. Hmm.
 
Oh, did you guys noticed in the last scene, when Echo got up from being wiped, her voice when she says "Shall I go now?" was more confident and less dreamy. Or it just me again.

Great episode; I really liked Esther, Eliza was awesome in her actingness to make it believable. I really don't think I've ever seen her play a character that nice, well for the most part anyways. The ending bipolar switchup was, I mean, totally awesome. Lol. But yeah, I digged this eppy. Victor and Sierra's situation is hilarious, I already predict from this point that the two will probably have future romantic affiliation. What really bugged me though, was it really necessary to infiltrate the religious compound? As the story progressed, it was totally just the Federal Agent's personal vendetta. Then again, you don't know, because the ending showed Mr. Leader and what total nut-job he actually was.

AND HOORAY FOR LAST NIGHT'S RATING! :cheering:
 
I thought it was a strong entry, just not quite up to the high standard of last week.

* The blonde security douche knocked out Echo--presumably to let her toast. Man, I hate that guy. I hope he gets what's coming to him! The ending where she looked down and KNEW that he was no good was excellent. I'm thinking that in a future ep. there's gotta be payback for what he did.

* Tying in the theme of the closed, "perfect, uncorrupted" utopian society of the commune to the Dollhouse was very effective. Cleverness!

* Miracle Laurie was back. I did the Dance of Joy! (Man, she's stunning!) I read her webpage and apparently she's quite the virtuosa of the ukelele.

* The whole bit with the "man reaction" stuff was puerile writing, IMHO. I expect something more high-brow from Mutant Enemy. Usually. 😉

* I suppose making the ATF chief more of a slimebag than the cult-leader was intentional. Interesting how impotent the show made them look. I mean, they show up in battle-dress with automatic weapons, encircle the place and just sit there while the situation (via Boyd and Echo) resolves itself.
 
Good episode, a hundred times better than last week's weak outing. Joss humor is officially back with the Victor "man reaction" subplot. Eliza did an admirable job of playing a blind woman. And it looks like Agent Ballard's storyline may finally be going somewhere in the next week or two.
