Question 'Origin' Orlon Window- Possible Spoilers

In 'Origin', the Window of Orlon is a box, simply put, that will restore a someone's mind if it's been modified. Gunn was in the holding dimension and Lorne was at Wolfram & Hart, which weren't nearby. Illyria, Wesley, and Connor got their memories back because they were in the same building.
I don't remember if Lorne and Gunn mentioned getting them back or not. If they did, that would be a terrible plot hole.
Also, why didn't Cordelia's memory of Connor get modified? In 'You're Welcome', she mentions Connor, obviously meaning her memory had been left alone.
I guess it could be said that she was in a coma anyway, so it would be pointless?
I'm not sure.

Yeah, Cordy was in a coma so was unaffected. And i thought when the box was smashed the spell was broked and everyone got their memory back. How would Gunn and Lorne getting them back be a plot hole?
 
Well, that's what Cyvus Vail said.
There were a lot of people in the world whose memories had been fixed, and I'm sure he'd never create a box to bring EVERYONE'S memories back.

If it were to break around someone whose mind had been altered, then all his old memories would come rushing back."
 
But that doesn't literally mean that it only works with those closeby. Vail was just letting Angel know everyone would remember.
 
Why wouldn't he just say, "if it were to break, memories would be restored"?
Why would he throw in a few extra words and make me start this thread?
Truly an evil genius.

Its a puzzle. Or a riddle.
I'm sure he said it affects only nearby people. That's the point, wasn't it. To make only Wesley and Connor remember. 🙂
 
If the nearby thing doesn't come into play and the breaking of the box restores the memories of people whose minds have been altered, then in theory, shouldn't what happened in IWRY come into play too, even if Buffy was in Sunnydale? Or is it just spells that Vail did that are affected?

Probably the box contains only the specific memories of a given event, not all memories that have ever been altered anywhere or any time.

The memories of Buffy and all of the others in "I Will Remember You" were changed by reversing time for 24 hours, so, in effect, those memories were completely replaced by new ones. The memories of Connor and all of the events surrounding him were simply covered over by false memories. When the box was destroyed, the false memories were destroyed with it. A very slight difference, granted, but a difference, nonetheless.

(But even if Buffy's memories were restored, she would forgive Angel completely, because she loves him so much more than anyone else)

Minds were still altered though, memories were taken and covered over and then remade in a different way. Like a heart transplant or something to that affect. They have working memories and they align with everything else about that person but they are not the originals, not really theirs.

That's a different question though. Don't want to derail the thread 🙂
 
I always thought it was quite obvious that only Wes, Connor and Illyria had their memories returned. Gunn, Harm, Lorne etc. never make any mention of anything about it at all for the rest of the series.
 
Well, if Lorne got his memory back, would he still be friends with Wes? Remember Wes beat him up when he took Connor....

Well they were pretty good at the end of Season 4. It's not in Lorne's nature to hold a grudge against a friend. I mean, he likes Gunn fine too.
