Because people aren't editing their posts, they are posting 3-4-5 times in a row in a thread which makes them hard to read.

How that came about was that I wrote a post,
KaitKat put a reply to what I'd said as a comment.
I saw the comment and replied to it
but the automerge function put my reply ahead of KaitKat's comment.
The thread was, There's A New Slayer In Town. In season 3
