It's not quite as bad as that in most places, but I have parked places where if you didn't have a card, or a phone, you couldn't pay.
And good luck if you forget to bring your card with you, I guess!

I actually have two - technically work ones admittedly - and the reason I have two is because the printer cartridges for the newer one cost a fortune! So I still use the older, cheaper, less capable one for some things simply to save money.

It's insane that it's cheaper to just buy a brand new printer than getting printer cartridges.

There were two DJ's talking on a local radio station about ; what would make for a better concertgoing experience ' and the first item was paper tickets. Other answers were better seating, a better answer than a row of porta-potties as washrooms and ability to actually see the stage.

There is a special warning for HP printers: each cartridge has a memory implanted with a date code. You can buy a new printer cartridge from an authorized HP dealer and if the code is too early, the printer will refuse to operate.

I still have a printer and still use it.

I have been registered at the parking garage (company) and they charge me when my car drives into their lots by reading my lic plate. It charges my credit card. I don't have any money apps and plan not to as long as it isn't a legal requirement, even if it is inconvenient. No phone exists that cannot be unlocked (even if they do it by cutting off hour finger of scanning your finger print from photos)

I therefore won't do anything secure on my phone. Yes, people look at me as if I'm a 'stupid boomer'. I think I know human nature and I know enough people who've had money sucked away that they can't get back to make it easier for thieves. There are no absolute protections. ANYONE can be scammed or stolen from, even with best practices... but carrying around (even a portion) of my net worth in my pocket doesn't seem like a remotely rational idea.

In the US, if someone steals your credit card (or the number) you have an absolute max that you can lose b/c there's laws for that. When I was asked if i had bought stuff in a state I had never visited, on the other side of the country, my cc company believed that, no, i wasn't in two places at the same time and the charges were removed.

Interestingly, there aren't any protections for your bank card...
if thieves take money out, you will have to prove that you didn't do it or authorize it. If not, that money is gone UNLESS the bank gets it back... and they really have no incentive to bother b/c it's not their money. 10 bucks or 10 thousand. Now more and more companies are trying to force you to use your bank card b/c cc companies charge them fees. They want us to save them money. They, however, don't protect us. They don't secure the bank card numbers any better than the credit card numbers.

You don't always get the option. I quite literally cannot access many of my bank accounts or cards without a phone now. I don't want to use it, but if I want to do anything with them, I absolutely have to have an app on my phone. There is no option. In the next couple of weeks, yet another website is being taken down, forcing me to use yet another app.

If I have to use a card for anything, I use a credit card, simply because of the added protection.. Online, I try to go through PayPal as well, adding another layer between the spend and my actual cash. I think it's even possible here that you can't lose money spent on a credit card; the card is insured so that if there's a problem, it doesn't come out of your pocket. My bank account is for paying direct debits and standing orders and withdrawing small amounts of cash.

Protections for bank accounts may be somewhat better here, for consumers. For instance, I know of a case where an elderly person got their cash card stolen and £3,000 was taken out of their account. When reported, they actually got the money back the same day it was reported. Of course, as the withdrawals were inherently suspicious - a few minutes before and after midnight, thereby getting two days of withdrawal limits, and for someone over 80 - that may have helped.

Absolutely no way I'm going outside ☠️

I could send you flowers for romantic reasons, but that might be rather...awkward. On the hand, I might fly over there and present them to you in person. After all, I've been informed that Harry/Meghan will be having tea with @nightshade and I don't want to miss that. 😅

So long as they don't pop over to mine its all good. Yes deliver in person then we can have a Baileys and cause CHAOS lol

the anti-malware system hates a site called supaimg dot something... also imagetree? (may not have gotten the spellings quite correct, sorry). I won't make a link for either if you don't mind. If you have an image from one of these, just be aware, that some anti-malware thinks they are suspicious sites. no idea if that's true or not. Some of what it labels has to do with how it's constructed, but... just so you know. Every time I load a page with one of these images it yaps at me. I haven't allowed the sites so i have no idea whose pictures they are.
