25th Anniversary RPG - Interest Thread

Our little show that could first aired 25 years ago TOMORROW, March 10. So.... who would be interested in starting an RPG based on the first episode, "Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest"? It would be like an alternate reality, where the plot is similar (Buffy moves to Sunnydale, meets Xander, Willow, Angel, Giles, Cordelia, Harmony, Jesse, and the Master, Luke, Darla are all gearing up for the Harvest). The ultimate goal would be to follow the beginning narrative of the story-- BUT! we can change the outcome. Does Jesse turn... or Xander? Maybe Jenny Calendar arrives to help save the day? Does Joyce learn Buffy's secret?

Playable Characters:
Buffy
Willow
Giles
Xander
Cordelia
Harmony
Jesse
Joyce (maybe?)
the Master
Luke
Darla


Other characters can be manipulated as needed (ie: Aura, Cordettes, Other Vampires, etc)

I think the best way to do this would be to create different threads for various "Settings": Sunnydale High Library, Sunnydale High School, Town of Sunnydale, The Bronze, and the Master's Layer. This way, multiple stages of the RPG can happen at the same time without everything getting mixed (for example, the Master, Luke, and Darla could be having devious fun in the Master's Layer, while the Scoobies are discussing the previous night's events in Sunnydale Library.) I think the general school should be separate from the Library, as the Library is a major setting. And people can swing in and out of different "settings". So Buffy could be talking to Joyce in the Town of Sunnydale thread, at their house, and then Buffy arrives at Sunnydale High School to chat with friends. Is this a good idea, or should we just have one thread for everything?

What do we think? Who would like to join?
 
I think it would be a lot of fun and I’d be totally down! 😀
 
Sounds fun, I would join if my schedule allows it. Of course it always allows it if I am indeed avoiding my responsibilities by typing on the Buffy Boards which is, exactly what I am doing.

It's ongoing, so you can post when you can! Nothing is really posted "in real time" just as response to other players.
 
One thing I would do a bit differenly is give Jesse a longer run. He may still die in S1 but at least give him a few more episodes.

I thought about that too. It would be fun to make a new “season 1” together with different choices and see where that leads collectively!
Let's do this... instead of choosing characters, let's do a story-building exercise, where each post continues the story in some way. Let's limit to about 200 words a post (so no more than 200 words). I can start it, and then other posters can continue the story. No double posting, unless the story has been dead for at least 3 days, to give people a chance to continue the story.

For this story, we don't want to completely go off the rails, but we want to make slight changes to the first episode, and as Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest originally aired as 1 feature-length episode, we will conclude the story at the end of The Harvest. But how the gang saves the day can change. How does this idea sound?

Sounds like a better, less complex idea, wherein people could join in as they wanted.
Are we doing it in this thread? 🤔 Because if so I have some rewatching to do
 
Looking forward to it, I should probs also rewatch Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest. Will it be like each person is a character or like all of us collaboratively write out a scene?

Collaborative writing, so people can post as they want. It’s perfectly fine to twist the scene and the next person take it from there! It’s really a fun creative writing role play.
 
Okay I’ve posted the story thread. Please keep all out-of-story discussion here. If you have a question or need help pushing the story forward, come here. Like i said we are doing a bit of an experiment, so no particular person has to be one particular character, and anyone interested can jump in. If you choose to add a new, non Whedon character, post a description of the character here, so others know how to interact with that character or use that character in the evolving story!

May or may not have contributed correctly. It’s easier for me to write in a more novel-ish format, so I hope that’s acceptable! Interested to see what the next person devilishly cooks up! 😉

Ohhh... I used a more novel-ish format too...
Plasma (in their infinite wisdom) may have uh…forgotten to read the “character list” in this thread and introduced a new element to the scene. 😵 We’ll see what kind of monkey wrench this becomes in the storyline!

maybe let’s keep the Tara part for later? But we can keep the Anya stuff. This is like season 1 Buffy, so I don’t want too many of the later seasons coming in to play so quick. Maybe Dawn like one of the memory realities from her new existence..
