Hi all!

So I have seen that a lot of you have stories or fan fic of a souled Drusilla. Since she was the only Fang four to not have the souled treatment in all the seasons I was wondering what do you think she would be like?

Would she use her visions for good?
Would she be insane with guilt?
Can she even be sane again?

Let's discuss!

I'd kind of see her like the insane Slayer in season 5 Angel. Either that or so self-destructive that only restraints of some sort would stop her from suicide.

To give Drusilla a soul would be an act of cruelty to an already tragic character. She'd suffer eternal torment for what she'd done whilst soulless, especially since human Drusilla was devoutly catholic.

Drusilla is beyond saving, Angelus did a real number on her. She can never go back to being "good" or sane.

I think the question is whether ensoulment might be possible if she was healed at the same time. If I'd been writing the character, I would have given her everything she ever wanted- a new lover, a surrogate child (albeit a powerful female teenage darkmage) and a vendetta against Angel. Particularly a surrogate mother/daughter relationship- so she gets to have some form of family life. Of a sort.

We seen in the last IDW Spike comic how that worked out for a brief moment (even if Spike had Willow send his into her body). She ****ing hated it.

Bigger question: what of she and Spike conceived a daughter but unlike Darla re: Connor, Dru was able to survive and run away leaving only Blondie Bear to raise the offspring on his own

Given Dru's mental condition as she is depicted, I'm not sure that possessing a soul would change her all that much. She has what might be described as the mind of a child, and a quite young one, at that. As depicted in the Buffyverse, the initial reaction to being reensouled, at least in the two examples that we have seen (and they are, apparently unique, so we have no other example to draw from) is an overwhelming sense of guilt for the atrocities that they have committed as vampires. But we have to remember, these were mature men with fully developed concepts or right and wrong, good and evil, and the knowledge that, in order to be considered a member of society, one must live by the rules of that society. (Just imagine a head hunting Indian from South America whose tribe normally practiced cannibalism. Turn that individual, wait a few decades or centuries, and give him his soul back. Would he feel any guilt whatsoever for what he had done as a vampire? Probably not)

Dru, despite her obviously homicidal tendencies, has pretty much the innocence of a child, something which makes her, to me, all the more creepy, as well as tragic. Restore her soul, but not her humanity, and you would most likely have the equivalent of a human serial killer. Unless her sanity were to be restored with her soul, just about the only real change, in my opinion. would be that she no longer had the physical capabilities to continue her former vampire life style, including her thirst for human blood, so most likely, she would wind up dead or in the equivalent of Batman's Arkam Prison.

Dru already has humanity in her. Also a child can tell right from wrong and can feel quilt quite keenly from the age of 4 onwards so Dru would indeed feel a lot of guilt and probably have a complete emotional meltdown. Also human Dru was a devote catholic, in comparison to Angel's lax Catholicism and Spike's possible atheism, so the guilt would likely hit her even worse.

Human SANE Dru was a devout Catholic, yes, but that wasn't part of the original question, and Dru was insane before Angelus turned her. If we're talking about Dru returned to the same state that she was before Angelus first laid eyes on her, then the answer would be different. The sudden onrush of guilt, shame, and self loathing would quite likely be as overwhelming to her as it was to Spike in Season 7. and, without the kind of care and support that he got from Buffy, she would quite likely remain in that state or wind up taking her life in some manner. With such care, assuming that she had friends willing to take care of her. (Are we now suggesting that this is some sort of ceremony in which both Dru's sanity and soul are restored, and either Spike or Angel are there to support her? Because neither of them got any initial support. Buffy wasn't aware of Spike's condition until some time after he returned to Sunnydale (and the how and why of that return, given his mental state at the time would have made a fascinating story) and it was only after that, with her trust, care, and support ,that he began his actual, permanent recovery. Darla totally rejected "her boy" until he returned to the vampire life style, and even then openly complained about his only feeding on murderers and rapists.

If the question becomes, "If Dru wer restored both her soul and her sanity, AND had friends to support her?" my answer would be that her sense of guilt and self loathing would be worse than either Angel or Spike, given her greater sensitivity, and any sort of full recovery would be out of the question, with suicide a definite possibility.

Why? I can't really see Drusilla translating well to the page, seeing she's a fun combination of J.L.'s abilities as an actress, and J.W.'s abilities to write dialogue. But aside from that, I think it cheapens the Restoration to have multiple ensouled vampires. Just kill her. Her soul can then be released from limbo to what I assume is a Monochromatic version of Kai Cole's mansion.

How do we know that Dru is crazy in the first place . It could be the visions that has keep Dru from getting better & also the fact that she
could be hidding how smart she is .

I think Dru is smarter than she lets on, however I do think she is crazy due to what Angelus did.

Agreed.
I had thought about this recently. I agree it would've been a new torture for her.
Perhaps it would work better if she was turned into a human, so she had a soul but no longer had the bloodlust of a vampire. I think Dru deserved a chance at redemption.

That would have been better for Dru . Unlike Spike & Angel she was never into fighting so nothing much would have changed if she became human & sane.

I actually think he'd cope pretty well.

In the comics she get an ensouled Dru and a sane Dru I wonder what would happen if we got both. I think that would be interesting.

Way back when Cordelia left in AtS 4, I had the idea of Angel capturing Dru. Unable to destroy her because he felt so guilty, he'd imprison her in the Hyperion. and use her visions to fill in the gap left from Cordelia's absence. Over time Dru would be manipulating and scheming - I imagine Fred would be the easiest target. Then maybe in season five have Dru be restored to humanity and be a full time member of the team and dealing with her own complicated past and future with Angel and Spike.

That would be something . And Fred would fall for a lot of what Dru said since she trusts Angel so much & not able to see just how crazy Dru is .

Drusilla is kind of crazy. But she is unpredictably smart, too. Unlike the crazy characters from other shows, Drusilla knows how to prepare and fight for her survival. Angelus did not make her entirely bonkers. She is too smart for that despite her having childish tendencies. So, it would be hard to get her sanity and soul back. She would fight fang and nail to keep her current state despite it causing emotionally unstable insanity. There would have to be compassionate friends of hers who carefully remove her insanity enough. After that, ensouling her would work better when insanity is gone and it will be carefully done. Friends of hers would, then, have to support her for penance. She would have to start doing good deeds as a vampire for penance. She would do this by preventing innocent people from being harmed. She could go to heaven rather than hell after this is done. But even then, I doubt she can ever go back to being completely sane and pure before Angelus came into her life. The damage has been done. And some people don't want all antagonists like Drusilla becoming protagonists.
