And the date rape happy pill Rebecca feeds him (not aged well) which brings about Angelus 🤷♂️
But yeah this is the episode where Joss says he gets it. They aren't making anthologies and but are doing serialised story telling of the characters

Its funny because Buffy Season 4 Starts great then does a nose dive when Maggie is killed off. Roundabout the same time Angel which was meh suddenly kicks into gear and goes really good

I think it aged perfectly in terms of rape culture. She tried to rape him but it backfired and almost got her killed. If more would be rapists ended up with immediate consequences, there would be fewer of them. I have zero sympathy for her.

Five by Five/Sanctuary 10/10 - already discussed those previously. Buffy is a real bitch in Sanctuary. She also looks really tiny in that group shot at the end with everyone else 😄
War Games - Really underrated episode, contrasting the rich side of LA with the Poor side and struggle to survive and J A Richards gives a great peformance as Gunn. As does the actress as his sister too to be fair. 9/10
Blind Date - Its basically Angel fights Daredevil. Its still a great episode. Holland Manners introduction is great and the Actor who plays him is chilling. The scene of him executing Lee and telling Lindsey, if he says the wrong answer he will nod and have him executed too. All great stuff, while expanding on Lindsey and giving him some characterisation is all great 9/10
To Shanshu in LA - This will sound strange but while the actual plot is kind of stupid, The bad guy hurts Angels friends which gets him mad, so he kills so he kills said bad guy when all he needed to do was steal back the scroll, which he'd already done ! I love this episode.
A spectacular way to end the first season. Great fight scene with thd Sytche duel and the spectacular explosion of the Offices (how did Wesley survive that ?) Charisma maybe gives her best peformance on the show as her character truly gets Angels mission.
Also the face off between Angel and Lindsey and Angels line after cutting off his hand "you shouldn't believe everything your fortold" cracks me up.
The final scene of Angel/Cordy and Wes all together is touching.
Also the Darla reveal at the end 😃 9/10

So my overall thoughts on Season 1:
It starts off clunky but when they go down the Tim Minear Route of making it about Angel the character rather than just him beating up bad guys and saving good looking white girls, it fires on all cylinders.
Glenn Quinn was easily the best Actor of the season, he made what was basically a Whistler clone unique and memorable and gave every scene some pathos.
That said killing his character helped the show as Cordelia slipped into his role as Angels friend, which until then she was kind of pointless and Wesley as the exposition guy and after they first couple of episodes they wisely dumped him slapstick routine and made him a smart competent character. Also but I think Angel as a show worked best with fewer characters unlike Buffy which was more of an ensemble.
Stand out episodes and the ones you should watch even if you don't watch Angel are the 2 Faith episodes Five by Five and Sanctuary
As well as Sonambulist and Prodigal that both add to Angels Character.
So overall a clunky start but really hit its groove in the second half onwards to Season 2 🙂
