Beloved tv characters that you hate

Simple I enjoyed Spike up until he fell for Buffy , when he started stalking her , you could say that it was not the characters fault that if they had not got Spike and Buffy together where was Spike's story heading, where could it go !
Spikes character was used in S6 he was demonized , you could say sexually exploited to a certain extent , his whole determiner was to exploit Buffy and her mental illness, Buffy confided in him and he used that and what he found out later to sexually abuse Buffy right from the tormenting of Buffy to start the fight in Smashed to the attempted rape
Also for spikes character to come to the for, the scoobies had to act as complete A/holes, destroying the core four that until S6 had been the backbone of the series
Spike even slut shamed Buffy telling the scoobies / angel they had been having sex when obviously Buffy preferred they did not know
S7 was worse in some way's the horrid sex stopped, but the program I was watching was as if the writers had not watched Buffy before certainly it became the Spike show after CWDP
To bring Spike/ Spuffy to the for I saw the show I love sacrificed for a Character who's best work was with Dru in S2 and S3 and I firmly believe if not for Spuffy and the way Buffy character and SMG was degraded in S6 to promote it, we would have had a S8 and maybe even a S9
hence......... I hate Spike he ruined my best tv show
Now i could tell you why I hate James Marsters but the mods would not allow me to be off topic

But the show changed. It's like when Happy Days stopped being about Richie and became about the Fonz. No one hated the Fonz because the writers wanted to change the shows dynamic.

I agree with you, I wouldn't say I hate Spike but I hated the direction they took his arc in post about season 4. I cant say I hate him though because he is great in Season 2, and Lovers Walk and The Ring, their such enjoyable episodes.
  • Robin Scherbatski from HIMYM, one of those characters who everyone fawns over and is constantly praised and seen as amazing.
  • Regina Milla from OUAT. I found her "redemption" laughable, the show played fast and loose with her morality and I hated how the series' often tried to get the audience to feel sorry for her on the heels of her doing something evil.

I agree with these two. Robin had her moments, like when she found out she couldn't have kids, but overall she was an extremely overrated character. It's not the actress' foult either since she is likeable as Maria Hill in the Avengers movies.

With Regina, I found it absolutely laughable that she would be named queen of all the realms by Snowing especially after all she'd done in her past. I'm not saying she couldn't redeem herself in the eyes of the EF residents in Storybrooke, but she hurt a lot of people and why should she be queen of realms she's not even been too. I don't think Jefferson would be too happy having her as queen of the world he's living in. Her relationship with Robin Hood was awful, especially considering she killed his wife, yet upon their first meeting, he was completely unfazed and began flirting with her despite having no reason to think she was reformed. Not to mention the unfortunate visual of him helping Regina up yet leaving Snow on the floor when Snow's actress was heavily pregnant (the character wasn't meant to be pregnant yet but the actress clearly was, so it just looked like Robin Hood didn't bother to help up a pregnant woman).

I'd also like to mention Henry. In Season 2, he was such a brat to the point I was kind of hoping the dynamite would blow his hand off just so that he would learn a lesson. He was really thick in Season 3 and the author plot was the show's jump the shark moment for me. It would've been better if the book was just a record of events that happened, and the different versions and stories that we have (eg Disney's version) of the characters is just the events being retold and changed over time (a bit like Chinese whispers where it starts off as one thing but ends as another) and the show is the "true" events.

I agree. JM and SMG had great frenemy chemistry but with JL was where the true romantic chemistry lay. You could believe that Spike and Dru were a couple that had been together for over a century, also JM and JL had similar working styles so they would push each other to elevate their game. SMG often told JM he had to do things a certain way instead of giving him the freedom to act like JL did which I also think affected things. Also in Season 2, you got to see both sides of Spike: The dangerous killer in his conflicts with Buffy and the tender and caring lover in his scenes with Dru.

Having Spike and Dru stick around in a frenemy capacity could also help emphasise the threat of the First if the "evil" beings are siding with Buffy because the First is that bad. I think demons and slayers are aware of the balance between good and evil and that they need each other to keep the balance. Sure, they're going to try and kill each other because that's just the way things go, but it's nothing personal. The First was trying to upset the balance and change the game hence why alliances form that wouldn't happen under usual circumstances. The Turok Han were just as dangerous to vampires and demons as they were to humans and slayers in my opinion. Nobody would want them running loose.

I also think we may have gotten more seasons if SMG wasn't put under so much strain. She was also made to lose weight (unnecessarily in my opinion) to the point where her stunt double (who had been her stunt double for years) said that she couldn't go that low otherwise the stunts would be undoable. Everyone else was apparently ready to sign on for another season but SMG said no. I don't blame her after what she and JM had to go through for Season 6.

Now i could tell you why I hate James Marsters but the mods would not allow me to be off topic

I think your hatred of JM is a bit over the top to be honest and you seem to blur the line between actor and character. JM was just doing the job he was paid to do.

I don't know if she's a beloved character but I hate Monica's mother in Friends.

- Matt in Nip/Tuck, he always gets himself in trouble
- Amanda in Melrose Place
- Dawson in Dawson's creek (maybe don't hate him but he gets on my nerves)

Well here goes , he appears a lot better now then while Buffy was Showing ,
Heres two
(1) The song about Michelle Tratchenburg ....WTF.... how can a middle age man write a song with sexual implications about a child and nothing happen !!! probably because we now find out the Boss was hardly of a upstanding character , Why do people give James Marsters free ride ? doe's anybody think it's OK and that every middle age man should be writing song's of a sexual nature about Children? , he wrote about Michelle fancying him when she really had a crush on the guy who played Riley the only saving grace was that he did not publish it until Michelle was a adult
(2) At a comic con I remember someone asked James Marsters did he grope SMG , now to me Sarah walks on water
Marster said yes, he groped SMG and got paid for it and if he was Freddie Prinze junior he would come after him with a base ball bat , again WTF...he admits sexually assaulting a female co worker ?..... can all male workers grope their female ones!!... now I fully understand that in the situation there would have embarrassing contact but to brag about it to admit doing it on purpose that her husband should be violent to him..... WTF .....nough said

I think with both JM and SMG character's were assassinated , but for Sarah she had to put up with not only MN issues but with Whedon using the program to embarrass her , it is well known that Sarah hated the horrid sex in S6 , but the scene she hated the most was the balcony scene something that Whedon had in his Mind for more than a year ...WTF..... your boss wants to see you simulate have anal sex in public ???
Sarah said she had to be talked down from the ledge many times in S6, that Whedon would not converse, he just yelled at her , that he was hardly on set , Freddie talked of the nonsense that Sarah had to put up with and people's ego getting in the way so she would not be going back
If you treat staff badly they walk , Simple

he admits sexually assaulting a female co worker ?..... can all male workers grope their female ones!!
It's acting. He sorta had to do it, you know? You'll see similar things with many action movie stars. They will ask the actor how it felt to beat up so and so, in the movie, to which they will reply it felt great, the best part they paid me to kick so-and-so's ass.

That doesn't mean they literally beat the person up. It's actors having fun answering the same questions they get asked ad nauseum.

And you have heard of other actor's saying they groped their female co stars ?

now to me Sarah walks on water

And this is the crux of the issue. You place SMG on such a pedestal that everyone else on the show is beneath her in your view. Spike treated Buffy badly (and vice versa) but you seem to think it means JM treated SMG badly as well. They were both actors paid to do their jobs. Season 6 was horrible for both JM and SMG with what they had to do especially the AR scene. The "bad guy" in all this isn't JM, it's Whedon with Noxon also holding some culpability.

In my opinion, I think Spike and Joyce would've been a better couple than Spuffy (if Sprusilla wasn't an option or Anya). They both like watching Passions, they both treat each other with respect. Of course there would be issues that would cause Buffy great concern eg Spike is a soulless vampire and her mother isn't, but imagine the crisis Spike would be facing if he knew Joyce was dying from a terminal brain tumour. He could "save" her by siring her, but he also knows how terribly wrong that can go as it did with his mother.

Buffy just had misery upon misery piled upon her and SMG had enough. Buffy lost her humour and her spark, she lost what made her Buffy and SMG voiced that concern. When the writers finally tried to rectify that, it was too little to late, the damage had been done.

Wow Spike and Joyce how interesting!
And you have heard of other actor's saying they groped their female co stars ?
Yes. Not in today's climate and with a little more tact, but yes. But that was only because they were talking to reporters and not fans. Most fans that go and pay to meet him, want to hear his funny anecdotes. He is there to entertain.

Horatio Caine from CSI:Miami- Not only is this the worst fictional name of any TV character (awful movie names crop up in Steven Seagal flicks) but he's just a terrible mary-sue of a character. He specializes in all forensic fields (originally he was supposed to be ex-bomb squad but this was clearly forgotten by S3), is a crack shot with pistols and rifles (he never misses, all shoot-outs with him are death sentences), is so intuitive that he instantly knows when someone is lying/done something wrong and also has this weird mind-control power where he can make guilty people do self-incriminating things like 'not asking to see a warrant' and 'not immediately asking for a lawyer' because plot says. Awful, awful character that ruined the show he was on because everything became about him. I've rarely witnessed such staggering self-indulgence by an actor/producer.

Stark from Farscape- After his excellent introduction in S1 he returns in S2 as a weird scenery-chewing plot device/love interest and continues to devolve in S3 into a creepy stalker perv pursuing Aeryn Sun (even when she is in mourning).
To top it all off he almost gets Crichton killed in S4 by proxy because he sold his memories to makes a malicious computer game. A turd in an otherwise great sci-fi show.

Jimmy Palmer from NCIS - As when Angel knocked out Xander with one punch, "That guy just bugs me." He is supposed to be the character of compassion but he is so cloying and boring that he really should have been a sacrificial victim in one of the attacks.

You are so right with most of which you write , and yes i did put SMG on a pedestal , still have , no I don't think she was above the other actors , Alyson , Tony , for example are both very fine actors but she certainly had a lot more to do than the others working frequently 18 hr days.
I think her Character and herself suffered by not attending the get together's at Whedons house
Fully agree JM was treated badly, why was he ever in a Sock I remember when reading complaints about it MN saying..... why wouldn't you want to see James naked, he disliked many of the scenes and is very vocal of the rape scene , that being said on youtube there is a dailie where SMG does speak out about him and pushes him away. Also JM was so full of himself ,I can't get over that song and what he has said in the past at Comic cons about groping Sarah no , no female should ever be groped by a work colleague, no matter what circumstances , and certainly not boast about it
Again you are perfectly right about the misery piles onto Buffy Character, and Sarah having enough she says about being talked down from a ledge many times , I have posted frequently about MN and the change from BTVS to a soap and as she has admitted about a lot of it being about her life and her hang ups and that they went to far
But the real culprit is Whedon I believe he really finished with Buffy at the end of S5 from then on its been a cash cow for him , he wrote hardly any of the episodes in the last two seasons , hardly ever there ( as with Angel ) , allowing MN a free hand , and using the season to punish SMG

he wrote hardly any of the episodes in the last two seasons , hardly ever there , allowing MN a free hand
That's because he wasn't the showrunner, she was. He shouldn't have been there, he shouldnt have been writing episodes. He was not the one in charge. It was a different show. It was Marti Noxon's show. Just like when Whedon took over showrunning duties from Greenwalt he completely changed the tone of Angel to something he wanted, Noxon did the same.

I really don't remember an anal sex scene?! When was this?

Some posit the balcony scene is the scene in question.
Crowley. I didn't hate him, but felt they had taken him on a journey and had no idea what to do with him.

Even back when I watched it, it seemed like he was just running on a treadmill. Nothing for the character but don't want to lose him.

I love him so much (icon, duh) but they killed him off one season too late, at least. I'm just glad he got a good send-off though, one that fit his character so well.
