I don't know, part of me feels like s10 "Old Demons" was trying to convey to me that they could now be friends. Which feels odd to me. I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be the take away message from Buffy telling Angel that they could keep in touch.

I didn’t think it implied that Angel could move next door and everything would be hunky-dory, though. To me, it was basically saying they could go back to their pre-Twilight kind-of-friends-at-a-distance thing. They hadn’t seen each other for a long time. To me, Buffy’s feelings were shown to be conflicted and confusing, not resolved. And Angel was predicting a breakup, not cheering for the happy couple.

This is why I can't take the comics seriously. I feel like the comics are just Spuffy fanfic. It's like the comics completely forgot about the entire run of both of shows.
Well I'm not defending the comics but @Grace is right and I think thats the right interpretation. It's just confusing because the comics are tough to read sometimes and I worry I'm injecting my persona biases in them. But Buffy definitely admitted she had conflicting feelings. Angel does say he doesn't think it will last. But - at the same time there are so so many things that are just cringeworthy.
The way that Buffy brings Spike in to show Angel they are dating. The way they draw Angel at the end with a panel of Buffy and Spike fawning over each other. I just don't think show Buffy would ever do that. I wish I had the panels but I'm on my phone.

At least that was my interpretation by "I loved him more than anything in this life." and "Sometimes, I do think that far ahead."
Comic Buffy seems childish, dependent, and cruel.

I didn't get that. I don't think she was still very much in love with him. I think she loved him and she was acknowledging the fact she sometimes thought what it would be like to be in love with and spending a life with him. I just never got the vibe she was still in love with him. He was her first, and he was Angel, he would always share a special place in her heart.
It would seem really sad if, through everything else, she was still very much in love with him. It would be almost tragic.

My wife had very wise words for our children when they questioned which one she loved best. She said that love fits in pockets and having love for someone doesn't mean it is diminished somewhere else, just like having something in one pocket doesn't mean you can't have something in a different pocket, so adding love to one pocket doesn't diminish the love in another pocket. Angel was the first pocket to fill but she never needs to look in that pocket anymore.
Tragic but true.
I often hear people say "It would be so sad to think that Buffy never got over Angel or that Buffy was still in love with him after all that time." Well if you don't like the story go blame Joss I guess. I think the story is pretty clearly written as Angel is the love of her life. She says it as much when she says she loved him more than anything, its reiterated in her actions in the s7 finale her actions and her words of a potential future. It's written all over the stupid Twilight arc when Giles talks about how Angel and Buffy love each other. She calls him the love of her life in s8. An argument can be made for her feelings for him in s9/10/11 but in s7, I agree with what James Marsters says: "Yeah. I thought that what the final episode did very well was admit that Buffy really is in love with Angel."
And anyway, who is Joss if not a glutton for tragedy.

I think Angel is man enough to not interfere if Buffy was with someone else. So it kind of would be up to Buffy to set the tone. As long as her position was, "I'm with Spike now," I think they could at least go through the motions of being friends. I haven't finished season 11 yet (lol) so I'm not sure if I think Buffy would be conflicted at this point or not. It might get to be too much for Angel though, and he would end up going away somewhere again after a while. I'm not sure he could watch Buffy with someone else for long.

There entire story is meant to be tragic. They are star crossed lovers, the love of each other's life.
They also can't be together. It is SAD. It's meant to be sad.
It's not like Buffy & Angel are the only two that this has ever happened. I believe until the day my dad dies he will be in love with my mom, but she just no longer loves him. It's sad, but it's real.
Maybe you got a different vibe from what she said, but I felt that she was saying she still loves him, but she doesn't know who she is right now, which is why she said sometimes she thinks that far ahead.

I think it's really myopic that she would always be in love with, not just love, but in love with her first boyfriend and always pine for him. To me that seems rather demeaning. It's one thing to love that person, but it's another thing to be in love with them, still and forever.

I don't think it's one sided. I think Angel is still in love with her as well.
They didn't break up because one of them no longer wanted to be with the other, they broke up because they had to. He couldn't give her a real life and she knew that.
I don't find it demeaning. I just find it sad.
And it doesn't mean they can't ever fall in love with other people again, but I just think there will always be longing/yearning there that they can't shake. And if they could really have each other they would be.

I have heard you express in this thread that you find the idea of her being in love with Angel in s7 to be sad, tragic, demeaning etc. There are alot of things that Joss has done on those shows that I personally find incredibly depressing - for example see all of the Spuffy relationship. But despite my like or dislike for it - the story is what the story is even if I don't like it.
If your argument is that you don't see any evidence of love in s7, well I disagree with you but certainly those things are subjective and up for interpretation. But this notion that "it's not true because if it was true it would be sad" is not really an argument that I think works in the Jossverse. Otherwise Tara would still be alive....
Yes - A&F s9 she is mentioned a number of times. Angel tells Faith the IWRY story. He talks about Buffy with Spike (telling him he is still not over her) and how they met is discussed with Whistler.
She is also mentioned in s10 but I can't recall the specifics - and then of course they cross over in s10 and they have their little conversation in Old Demons and they interact for that entire arc.
S11 Angel doesn't mention Buffy.

It’s just s3 that Angel seems to just magically forget about her because Cangel the other seasons have many references to her. But after s4 when he calls her name out after the fake Cordy sex she seems back in the fold.
